Doing a lot of grinding / Mantra building in Digital Devil Saga.  Exploring the Brutes' Base while I do it.  Using Serph, Argilla, Gale, and Cielo roughly equally and ignoring Heat.

Wow, I'm impressed. Most I seemed to get for my blog posts were several thousand hits and I actually got paid for those. Okay, those stats were pretty normal for blogs on that site, but still...
OK, I made a mistake.  I was reading the stats wrong.  My blog's TOTAL hits is around 23,000, but more than 7,000 are from a single post about anime basketball.  It's more than quintuple the unique hits of any other post I've made.  Yeah.  it's weird.

Anyway, I had a really surprisingly good day at work. TWO of my superiors sent me emails about DIFFERENT job openings within our department (that have), providing very similar messages of "these jobs pay much better and you should get ready for when they open in May."  Then, another of my supervisors (who also knows about those jobs, I'm assuming) told me that I'm going to be doing some special training next week at sites outside the office "because that training might help for future opportunities."  I might get promoted this summer!

Well, I do know that SOME people read my blog.  My most-read post has about 20,000 views and still gets a few hundred a month.

I was writing a blog post last night, probably in the 2500 to 3000-word range.  This afternoon I was making a few final edits and copy/pasted some revised sections into the browser version of the post.

Deleted.  All of it.  Couldn't salvage it, after nearly an hour of trying.  The only parts that I had left intact were the most recent revisions, which were 3 out of 19 paragraphs.  **** it all.  Currently in the rewriting process.

That's rough! :( Definitely take a break and take another whack at it! Who knows, maybe you'll think of new ideas that seasons the post wonderfully. :D

I'm actually very impressed you spent the time writing a lengthy blog post. I usually have troubles writing a great deal without repeating myself or being satisfied with what I wrote. Reasons like that, and being a little too hard on myself, causes not only my blog posts from appearing in the public sphere, but also kills off some posts here and on vgmdb.net. I'll end up writing a very informational post, then ax it at the end. I think it might also be that If I'm not in a mood, it'll stop me from taking another write-up (sometimes the mood to write in a particular thread might leave and never come back).
Thanks.  I'm actually cracking at it again now, and I want to try and finish it tonight.  It's a little easier now that I'm doing most of it a second time.

I feel that writing lengthy blog posts is liberating and fun, even if I know that nobody reads them.  I mean, I've posted unnecessary TL;DR stuff on this forum on occasion (Exhibit A).  I'm embarrassed by a lot of what I write too, but that shouldn't prevent anyone from writing.  You shouldn't always be writing for a potential audience; write because you want to write, and if you're worried that it isn't good, write some more.  That's how you get better.

Dragon Age origins

Nothing to be ashamed there.
If you had said DA2 though...
Hey, I said DA2 on this very thread a few pages ago!  Aveline Vallen is a saint!  A SAINT!!!

Hey, I resent that.  I've been reading One Piece for over a decade (I think they were in Jaya when I started reading it, but I'm not 100% sure) - I used to post on the arlongpark.net forums but they devolved into a disgusting mess shortly after I arrived.  Hmm, wonder what brought that about....  Well, anyhow One Piece is one of all-time favorite manga; it's definitely my favorite shounen manga other than Slam Dunk.

I just barely post in this topic because I don't really watch anime anymore other than standalone films.  I read a bunch of manga chapters each week because, well, reading a chapter takes maybe 2 minutes vs. 23 minutes, plus I enjoy the graphic novel format a great deal.  Hell, I'm like one of the six people that posted in the western comics thread.  Favorite weekly manga nowadays are probably One Piece, Kuroko no Basket, KSKM, and The Breaker: New Waves.  Yeah, I like shounen, sports, and martial arts.

I just watched wrestling for four hours and I am ****ING.  WIRED.

Doing some power-leveling in the sewer stage in DDS1.  Of course there's a ****ing sewer stage.  At first I hated Cielo, then I got him going on the Hama-Kaja paths, and now I'm actually okay with Cielo.  Mixing up my party a lot, but I'm mostly using Serph-Argilla-Gale, but I might switch out Argilla for Cielo eventually.  Don't rule it out.

I agree with Monsoon, Dragon Age II was IMO a wonderful game, let's see...I loved Enchanted Arms...Rogue Galaxy is one of the best games I have ever played and yeah Ar Tonelico is kinda hard to explain liking, hell, any JRPG's with characters who look so anime is a stretch for me to explain to co-workers...so I don't
Wait a second, it's shameful to love Rogue Galaxy!?  That game ****ing rules!  I won't say it has the deepest story or characters, but the combat and skill customization and weapon fusion were all fantastic!
281  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs you're ashamed to like? on: April 04, 2014, 05:33:32 PM
I'm a Dragon Age II defender / apologist.  I thought the game had better skill trees, better semi-random encounters, and really solid dialog, characters, and combat.  Sure, replaying the same dungeons and visiting Kirkwall over and over were major problems; I believe that several of Dragon Age 2's faults were due to its rushed production, and an extra six months could have really helped.

And ****, on a similar note, I really really liked Tales of Legendia.  Like Dragon Age II, that game had some serious problems in only one town and repeated dungeons, but I really liked the characters and battles.  Weird how I feel similarly good about games that are both disliked by fans.

I really enjoyed Alternative Saga: Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki on PSP.  All of the menus are in English except for the item names, and the storyline is basically "fight these guys in sequence".  The Wikia for the game also explains the different items, skills, and achievements pretty well.  I don't speak two words of Japanese and I was able to sink 20+ hours in and have a lot of fun.  If you enjoy arena fighters like Dissidia and Powerstone AND really like Ys Seven, Trails in the Sky, or both, then I'd recommend it.

Only minor problem: there are a few spoilers in the game.  One Ys Seven surprise character is playable, and one Trails in the Sky character is outed as a villain.

Oh wow. Someone else thinks he/she can win.  That's cute.  I drink beers.

Well, if people are interested I could run a quiz about Final Fantasy VI or Persona 3.  I've put in hundreds of hours into both of those games and could probably do a better job on those than the time I tried a Super Mario RPG quiz.
