I saw the word about Frog Fractions 2, so I fired up the original for the second time.  First time was around a year ago.  Still the best browser-based game of all time.  OF. ALL. TIME.

The only 2014 KickStarter that matters.

1. Ys Seven
2. Rayman Origins
3. Assassin's Creed II
4. Dust: An Elysian Tail
5. The Walking Dead: Season One

Currently very early in Vagrant Story, midway through Mark of the Ninja, near the end of Persona 3 Portable (late November).  Don't know if that second one is going to happen at all.

Probably Dracula X for the SNES? Don't play that, guys. It's not great and unnecessarily hard. Play Rondo of Blood or Super Castlevania IV instead.

Played the first hour or so of Vagrant Story today.  I'm really enjoying the super-cinematic presentation coupled with aged-poorly PSX graphics - it's funky looking, but I mostly dig it.  Still getting used to the switching in and out of normal mode and battle mode; still think combat is weird, but not bad-weird.  Need to play more to get a feel for this game.

I rolled a few dice to determine which game from my backlog list I would play next; got Vagrant Story.  Let's see how this goes....

Mark of the Ninja is pretty good.  2D stealth is better than 3D stealth, I've discovered.

I have a digital copy of TO that's been sitting around unplayed for at least four or five months.  Once I get a Vita (this fall, probably) that'll be one of the first things that breaks it in.  After Persona 4G and Ys Celceta.

Right now I'm in the final chapter of The Walking Dead.  This one seems faster-paced and more direct than earlier chapters, so there's slightly more urgency in every scene, but... I dunno.  I miss the lost characters.  My final group is four people (including Lee) but I wish there were a few more for banter.  Still love this **** to death - it's making me re-examine Telltale's entire catalog and consider blowing money on Season 2.

I ACC referring to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but I think my point stands - the GC's RPG selection was seriously lacking compared to that of the PS2.

In case I didn't make it clear, Phantasia is my favorite game in the series.  Second is Vesperia, third is either Eternia, Abyss, or Xillia.  Those are my top five.  Those five games are why I'm a Tales Of fan, pretty much (although I haven't quite finished Xillia).  Symphonia and Legendia are... okay.  They each have their strengths and weaknesses.  I liked Legendia's characters and their development in the second half of the game, but JAYZUS having to replay so many dungeons and having such unforgiving event flagging.... that's rough.

Symphonia does a lot of things very well, but oh man is it rote.  Everything in it seemed like a recycled part from Eternia or Phantasia, and none of the characters really did it for me.  Maybe I was in a weird zeitgeist, but I always felt that it was so popular because the GameCube was starved for RPGs.  I don't even think it was the best RPG for the GameCube that came out in 2004.

Tales of Destiny for the PS1 is my least-favorite game in the series.  The characters don't seem that bad, but the combat was so slow and the dungeon crawls so unimpressive that I couldn't even finish it.  I've heard that the PS2, PSP, and second PS2 remakes are good, but I haven't had the opportunity to play them.  All I know is the crappy PS1 game.

Tales of Innocence.  Man.  That game sure loves item hunts.  I'll go back to that game eventually, when I have thirty hours and feel like doing random battles in soulless dungeons for hours and hours.

Gat Damn, chapter 4 of Telltale's The Walking Dead.  Wow.  Hell of a setup.  I'm glad I've been spoiled in a way (I saw a few gaming news headlines when they revealed the main character of Season 2).  That spoiler is comforting.  THAT character survives to the next part.

Phantasia was my first, and might still be my favorite.  Dice's commentary on it is 100% right.  Lady knows her Tales Of.

I liked ToS well enough, but when am I going to want to replay it, when my backlog is already ABSURD and there are new games I want coming out every month?  I'm guessing either never or not for a few more years.  I can wait awhile to pick this up.  It will still be around.
434  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: So... Board Games? on: February 25, 2014, 10:35:34 PM
Earlier tonight I played some Adventure Time Card Wars and DC Comics Deck-Building Game: Heroes Unite.  Heroes Unite is probably better than the original - card types are more balanced, Supervillains are stronger, and there are fewer Batman and Justice League cards with more Green Lantern, Birds of Prey, and Teen Titans.  Card Wars is decent, with a lineage closer to Magic or YuGiOh than most CCGs.  Cornfields deck is baller.

Right when you think a horse is going to be with you forever, it abandons you.

Exhibit A
Exhibit B (this one is unfair, and kind of a spoiler)
Exhibit C

Moral of the story: don't trust a horse.
