Cautiously optimistic, my copy is coming tuesday also and I will probably stream it. Curious how the multiplayer will turn out and hopefully I platinum the game this time. I was one trophy away for the first game. Also,I hope combat is more fleshed out this time, I felt human revolution heavily favored stealth since mooks took a ton of punishment in like the first half of the game.
2  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Yakuza 5 on: August 02, 2016, 11:51:35 PM
So friends, Yakuza 5 is free for ps plus this month. Which can only mean one thing, time to play some mahjong and pachinko. On a serious note though this game is amazing so far with taxicab racing and all the minigames. The convenience store actually has the first chapters of a whole bunch of shonen manga that you can read, it's really cool. And the arcade has taiko drum master you can play. I wonder if the multiple perspective/playable characters is going to be something they do for every yakuza game from now on because I know 0 has both Majima and Kiryu playable. so go forth, download that 23 gig game and let the Dragon of Dojima rise again!

Why do you guys not have a Friday or Saturday night stream?  Just curious.

Just availability.  I would love to stream more but the only day I can really stream right now is Monday and Sunday.  Work and life take up a lot of time plus we still have obligations to the site(doing news takes a lot of time). :(  I know Maxx will be switching his day around since Wednesday doesn't work out for him anymore he might choose Friday or Saturday don't know yet.  We are looking into more days though when we have the time plus we have a lot coming down the pipeline for the twitch channel in the future.

Got a suggestion for a livestream. Me and my friends have been playing through the board game/mystery/storytelling game Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective recently. Finished the game and discovered that there are actually people who made fan cases online. Found and did a playthrough of the case The Ogilvie Curse found at http://mistery.io . I think it worked out pretty well and more people should try it. Warning though, there's a lotta reading so should probably have at least 4 players or more.

So it's like a D&D mystery case kinda deal?  That actually sounds kinda fun but your right we would have to get people together to do it.  Def something that would be a lot of fun.  Thanks for suggesting!

It's more like a choose your own adventure deduction game kinda. You choose as a group which leads to follow and each move costs points at the end. When you feel you are ready, click the Solve The Mystery button and input your solution to the mystery and some other details. It really helps to have wordpad or a sheet of paper ready as writing down clues helps immensely. Me and my friends did a run over skype and streamed it.

Would consider getting the CE, but just absolutely refuse to buy anything from the Square Enix store. Put it on amazon guys.

Well, I'm glad we had an american in SF 5 top 8. It's not the one we all expected, but it was the one we didn't know we wanted. I think the ESPN 2 broadcast was a lot better for it, having someone to follow. If it was just all asian top 8 the broadcast would probably have not been as interesting. Looking forward to see how he does in future tournaments and if Joe can make Capcom Cup.

Edit= Fun fact:Apparently people in the japanese stream were referring to LI Joe as "the main character"
also, here is the espn 2 broadcast if people are interested http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/id/2834908
it has a lot more of the crowd audio and interviews, which I think makes it worth a watch

Here's the Catherine tournament https://www.twitch.tv/ghoul02/v/78434990

You're welcome, #LoveIsOver

edit= sunday finals have begun. I'm enjoying MKX, UltraDavid is very good at conveying the situation to casuals.

I guess I should be cheering for joe as he is a fellow New Yorker. But honestly, I'm surprised he made it this far in winners. He seems to be in a prime position to end up in top 8 though, it was a very good showing.

edit=this just in, Tokido is actually eliminated by Eita. Insane as he is one of the two favorites to win coming into this tournament.
Li joe, is in top 8

SF5 getting good now that most of the low tier players are out.  That PR Balrog and Bonchan match was really good.

A lot of japanese players have been put into losers bracket by US ones already. Momochi's already out and Justin Wong just eliminated Daigo. Moment 37 revenge.

And I don't know, there's a pleasure in watching low level guys play. There's as much to learn about what not to do and habits to avoid from them. It's probably what people feel when I stream Street Fighter.

oh man, I don't know how thy had time, but crazy megaman got 2nd place for smash 4. Immediately following awards, highlight reel with remixed wiley theme, kreygasm.

it seems all churches are either pokestops or gyms and There's this area in Flushing that has like a million churches. 5 on one block, I am now full up on eggs and like 200 pokeballs.

The game itself is fun, definitely been bitten by the bug since I was out till 2 with friends playing the game. Just not that much actual gameplay. They're going to need to add more player interaction and stuff to do soon to keep up the momentum. No need to add more than the original 151 till there's more stuff to do.

It might be interesting to follow this from the beginning for once.  I don't know.

I do believe that Pokken Tournament is a more worthy entrant than Mortal Kombat, which sucks and always will suck.

I also wish people would move on from Melee and just stick to the newest Smash, but... I understand that if you're REALLY good at one version and can't quite get as good at another version, then you'd grab hold of what you're good at and never let go.

Well, I've softened up on Mortal Kombat in my old age. There's some stuff I find interesting in the newer games which are way better designed. However, the new graphics have made the over the top violence, which was once hilarious and goofy, to be kinda uncomfortable to watch personally.

Streams are up, maybe give some games you aren't familiar with a shot. The selection is quite huge there'll probably be something you're into.

Also, side note, there are a lot of side tournaments too, and if your tastes are decidedly more anime, here's some more.
13  The Rest / General Discussions / Evolution 2016 on: July 13, 2016, 10:36:34 PM
So I guess I've become the fighting game guy, but Evo this year is almost upon us! The main games this year are, Street Fighter 5, Smash Wiiu, Smash Melee, Pokken Tournament, Guilty Gear Xrd, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7 and Killer Instinct.

Some of the storylines for this year include
1. Most of the games have experienced decent growth, barring MKX, UMVC 3 and Guilty Gear Revelator. But Street Fighter 5 has reached the insane number of 5065 entrants this year, and both Smash Wiiu and Smash melee both over 2000 entrants each.

2. A lot of clamor over making recently released characters tournament legal. Both Ibuki and Balrog for SF5 have been out for about 2 weeks and a lot of people claim Akuma in Tekken 7 is too new also. In fact, there was an Ibuki bug discovered and immediately patched where when she does an air throw, she becomes completely invincible for 6 frames while landing. If someone gets far/wins with one of these characters, the blowups will probably be real. It's also a problem in that the newest version of Tekken 7 is arcade only so far and thus, American players have no way to play it currently

3.Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, a series that has been considered by many to be Americas game since very few players outside of the US play it, was won by an international player from Chile last year. Kaneblueriver also seems extremely strong coming into evo this year as he has won a lot of the tournaments leading up to now. Can the US take back the title?

4. Similarly, Sonicfox might be in an even more untouchable situation in Mortal Kombat X. The guy has taken first at almost every major MKX tournament for the year. In fact, he won about 100 grand in the span of a week or so at some point. Though to be fair, one of them was the major international tournament for the game, sponsered by Esports League and Netherrealm themselves. Actually come to think of it, he's been the champion for ESL pro league in MKX for 3 seasons running, I'm not sure that's ever happened in any game.

5. Pokken tournament was the subject of a lot of mockery and outrage when it was first announced to be one of the main games for evo this year. But the results have been a surprisingly large amount of entrants and interest. I've actually watched some of the tournaments, it looks quite fun. The main problems with the game are that it's on Wiiu, and each setup requires 2 consoles and 2 monitors since split screen is untenable in a tournament. That game is just a logistical nightmare in a big tournament with almost 1200 entrants.

6. Top 8 for Street Fighter 5 will be broadcast this year on ESPN 2. Not sure how many viewers this will actually attract, but I'm surprised it's not on The Ocho.

If interested at all, here is the stream schedule for the event

I actually put in vacation so I could stay home and watch it. If people wanna head onto some kinda irc chat or something while viewing, I would be up for that.

Playing the free ps plus games this month, Paragon and Furi. Man, I breezed through the first few boss fights of Furi so I thought it was pretty easy. The difficulty curve then spikes the hell up, and I've been bashing my head against the wall that is the 5th boss for a bit. There is a slight startup to the dodge/dash that's a bit off-putting and you actually go further if you hold the button it seems. Well, I think I'm almost at the end.

Oh, and EVO less than a week away, HYPE!
15  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XV, This is a fantasy based on reality. on: July 09, 2016, 01:01:27 PM
Finally looked at some stuff for Kinsglaive, man, some of these character designs just scream "I'm untrustworthy". Also, the emperor looks like the High Sparrow from Game of Thrones. Really loving the weird mix of fantasy and modern clothing shown so far though.
