this trend of them just doing english subtitles for asian versions instead of a full localization is really working out, bit on gundam breaker 3 cause of that. Also supposedly there's no macross this time cause rights to macross outside of japan is a huge clusterfuck they don't want to deal with. I wonder how the translations will be for the anime series that never had  formal english localizations
17  Media / General Games / Re: Inafune's latest project The Mighty No.9 looks Mega Rocking, man. on: June 27, 2016, 11:21:11 PM
let this game be a warning to overreaching in terms of kickstarter stretch goals. 4 million stretched over 10 or so platforms is not very much money at all, they really should've been more conservative in their promises. I watched a playthrough of the game and it seems pretty mediocre. There are some cool ideas there but I guess they didn't have the resources or time to fully explore them. I'd be interested in playing a sequel if that ever happens.

Mainly do your research and decide how much you're work/resources/time you're willing to commit to this.

I've always had this plan of eventually saving up and opening some kind of board game cafe. This is kind of off topic but in the past year one of the last arcades in California decided to move to a cheaper location for rent reasons and just ran into a series of nightmares. Decided to move to a smaller town and had to convince the town's zoning committee to give them the permit. They actually streamed this meeting and it was quite interesting, but got shut down in the end by this committee that was very clearly biased against them. Took a few more tries and got a permit for another location in the town. The building was way not up to code or whatever and now they've gotta spend about 100 grand to renovate. It's been like 2 years and the arcade's not open. Been following the journey and I'm like 'this is actually pretty inspiring but I don't have the fortitude for this.'

TLDR=Owning and running a business is hard

A King's Tale: Final Fantasy XV pre-order exclusive game revealed -- Nova Crystallis

It's a side-scrolling beat-em-up and it kinda came out of nowhere.

A Vita release for this would be nice

Yeah, it's kinda weird there'll be no handheld or mobile release for this. Would be super convenient too since you could play it on your down time. But hey, I'll take it, it's a genre that has sadly not gotten a lot of love in recent memory. I don't think it'll be very long cause games of that genre generally aren't if they're not titled The Bouncer or Dragons Crown. On the subject of XV though I'm actually quite excited for it, hopefully I'll have finished Mankind Divided by the time it comes out. The VR content seems like a silly, let's just have more content for VR thing which is fine. People need stuff to do with their shiny new headsets.

Ugh, both the FF XV and Scalebound stuff just really feel like they picked the wrong boss to showcase. The FF XV footage, don't know if it was a guy playing it live and messing up or all prerecorded, but it just looked awkward and kinda janky. Scalebound's boss fight didn't feel very dynamic and a lot of that fight was just him shooting arrows or hey, attack the boss here. It's Kamiya so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but they could've chosen better footage to show. Well, it's pc/xbox anyways so I probably won't get to play it.

On the bright side, Dead rising 4 looks really good and so does We Happy Few. The gwent game we'll see how they rebalance because spies kill the balance of that game.

Got back from work and just watched the super best friends stream of the EA conference. I think it was actually quite good, yeah there's a lotta sports stuff but those are probably the franchises that make them the most money so it's understandable. Titanfall 2's supposedly multiplatform and it looks great, so thankfully I'll actually be able to play it this time.

Not much shown of new Mass Effect, but we do know that we got returning races like Krogan and Asari. Plus we get Mako 2.0. I got some confidence this new game'll be good since the slate's mostly wiped clean and they don't have the pressure to carry over decisions made in previous games. We kinda got shown in 3 that there's just no way to fit in all your previous decisions, same with dragon age inquisition. Sure some of the storylines that did carry through all 3 games were cool like punching the reporter and Conrad Verner was hilarious, but the expectations were just too great for ME 3. Either way, look forward to more media on this.

Onto Bethesda stuff in half an hour. We know about Dishonored 2 already, wonder if they have any actual surprises.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FF12 HD - Zodiac Age (whoomp there it is) on: June 09, 2016, 08:30:18 PM
Probably the best new enemy to come from that game was the fake save point. Also the final boss' one winged angel form was pretty cool and he had some nice looking attack animations in his human form. Actually, come to think of it, 12 had a lot of cool designs, I wouldn't mind Zalera to come back in another future FF. It's also interesting how we get some previous final bosses in summon form like zeromus and exdeath.

the gundam series between V and Z3 are pretty much identical minus gundam wing plus crossbone, where's G gundam? It was in the gba ones. Also, bring back tekkaman blade with his super OP family. Lol I actually remember the terrible translation of tekkaman on american TV like over a decade ago.

better news, the CE is up on amazon now and that 20 percent off for amazon prime is lookin awfully tempting
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / World of Final Fantasy on: June 06, 2016, 11:40:02 PM
so, new trailer released https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4Gz7BislTw

No gameplay shown but damn, they got the original voice actors back. Wonder if the person who voices Cloud in this will also voice him in the FF7 remake. Though I wonder how they will weave together the plot for characters from other FFs. The chibi blob artstyle is quite good too.

Release date end of October is a sooner than I would've thought, but this game seems promising.

Time for the return of captain basch von ronsenburg of dalmasca. Might play it again, I never actually used the chain system in my playthrough all those years ago and the job system means my entire party doesn't all end up with katanas. Summons will still probably be absolute garbage though.
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Project X Zone 2: Electric Bugaloo on: June 04, 2016, 08:42:11 PM
I'm a couple of hours in. they have improved the game a lot. There's an upgrade system for your moves now and passive skills you can unlock for each character. Enemies also are not as damage spongy as the first game but the inherent problem of having to play the combo minigame will probably still fatigue people. There's also some meter management mechanic and an attack canceling system now so combos are more in depth. So things are lookin up, I'll see if I can last till the end of the game. Some weird new characters like the dragon girl tiki from fire emblem awakening.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Project X Zone 2: Electric Bugaloo on: June 03, 2016, 11:35:47 AM
well, I actually bit the bullet because amazon has this game for 13 bucks, I may or may not come to regret this.
29  The Rest / General Discussions / Combo Breaker 2016 on: May 29, 2016, 09:33:49 AM
well, not sure how much interest there will be but it's finals day for Combo Breaker 2016. There's all the fighting games you expect but of particular note is the mystery game tournament where players are thrown into a different mystery game to compete in each round, usually games no one ever knew existed such as a space jam and jurassic park game with hilarity ensuing.

https://www.twitch.tv/bgcallisto/v/69211756?t=02h31m27s for that weird newer jojo game followed by some tetris.

https://www.twitch.tv/teamsp00ky/v/69323710 for various top 8s over the course of the day and we'll probably get to see who this month's dlc character for SF 5 is even though we'll be getting them in like 2 days. Man, they have a Vampire Savior tournament and I haven't played that game in over a decade.
30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Nioh: Visceral High Eastern Fantasy Combat on: May 04, 2016, 12:26:34 AM
Played through the demo and stopped after beating the first boss. The game is probably a lot more artificially difficult than it has to or should be but it does put in some interesting ideas. Ki pulsing is basically active reloading for melee attacks and once you get the hang of it, it feels quite cool. I really like the stance changing and the kind of meta stuff that brings as well as switching your move set on the fly. Support the decision for the diablo style loot system too, enemies exploding like pinatas feels good and it's nice to have any way for people to progress so they don't feel like they're slamming their heads into a brick wall that is a tough encounter or boss over and over again.

Downsides, there's a lot to be worried about in the game too. Hopefully there'll be more weapon types than just hammer, axe, sword, spear. Yeah, too many weapon types might make the skill tree too big but they really should take advantage of the japanese setting and give us some more unique weapons and not the same old weapon types, kusarigama'd be cool. Also, enemies do crazy damage in this game, combined with the huge bonus damage to hitting peoples backs, a lot of enemies can one shot you in the beginning of the demo. Yeah if you grind a bit to get some better equips you'll actually be able to take a few hits but the difficulty curve in the beginning's quite brutal.

One last thing, did they confirm there'll be PVP in this game? or will the fight peoples ghosts system be the only interaction with others?
