16  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Best First Towns in an RPG on: September 03, 2014, 01:15:05 AM
Earthbound had some interesting towns and I remember needing the Runaway Five to play music to keep the ghosts in the tunnel away.
All of Super Mario RPGs towns were distinctive and memorable actually, Monstro town was cool and Nimbusland is a town of cloud people who don't tihnk it's weird that their prince is a bird.

yeah the first time you go into the town was really cool with the magitek armors and the frozen esper.  Kakariko village in Link to the Past was interesting in that it was the first town in a game I played with mini-games and I learned that lawn-mowing pays.

As the subject suggests, me and my friends recently talked about our favorite first towns in RPGs. They're usually the best or one of the better towns because of the importance of first impressions and all. So yeah, personal choices include Mushroom Kingdom from Super Mario RPG, Millennial Fair in Chrono Trigger if that counts, Rabanastre from FF12, Midgar from FF7 just for the sheer size and how much time you spend there and I guess the Citadel from Mass Effect counts as one(all of my favorite stores are there). Curious to see what all your thoughts are.
19  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Zelda Musou on: September 01, 2014, 11:42:07 AM
watched some streams of it from people who've imported the japanese version for a few hours and it seems like the characters movesets are pretty limited even for a musou game. The characters and equipment are heavily upgradable but your move choices for the moment to moment gameplay is not too big. On the upside, it is very fanservicy in shouting out to games of the series and it's got some amusing moments. Was hoping it would be like the fist of the north star musou game with the big moveset and 10 supers for each character but I guess that might've been too much to expect. Perhaps there will be an expansion or dlc in the future to add in more stuff.

Yeah, not gonna lie, I've been seeing it as some weird bird thing this whole time...

Anywho, games:

Diablo III is easy as pie. And we're playing on hard...tempted to bump it up to Nightmare...but I've heard things...

Try some of the rank 30 greater rifts, some of the normal elite mobs have about 20 billion hp.

Screwed around with a hooker's friend's copy of Suikoden 5. It... feels very anime and very Suikoden 1.

I think the reasons I liked Suikoden 3 so much were the reasons the Suikoden fans did not :T

Suikoden 5 was realy good and I felt the kinda rts battles were cool even though the rune abilities were super OP. The only problem I got with 5 is that there are a bajillion loading screens.

Been just grinding away in Diablo 3, though looking forward to a ton of releases in September, getting a ps4 for Destiny, and Curtain Call coming out.
Also, Gunvolt and the Phoenix wright/Layton crossover comes out today.

For all the people who bandwagoned on the show.
Winter has been coming for 16 fucking years
23  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: So... Board Games? on: August 28, 2014, 01:09:50 PM
saw some of the gen-con previews and I'm super hyped for the XCOM board game. It uses a phone app to keep track of rounds and each persons job since each roles gameplay is completely different. Cash and guns 2, Five tribes and abyss also looking pretty good. There seems to be a lot more good board games of licensed properties being produced recently so I have high hopes for the Witcher one and the one based on Black Sails.

Most of the buffs are to skills no one really uses and some of the nerfs wreck peoples builds. I guess it's better for balance but there are some weird changes that I don't know how it'll pan out. Dex no longer gives dodge chance but just straight up armor instead. I'm still only able to do Torment 2-3 right now, hopefully that'll change but mainly excited for legendary gems cause they have interesting powers.

So the gigantic 2.1 patch arrives tomorrow, bringing with it the greater rifts, legendary gems and seasons. A lot of new mechanics to get hyped about with major reworkings of a lot of the classes, I think my monks going to get a lot less tanky since they nerfed the best passive. Anyways, here's the patchnotes for people who care http://us.battle.net/d3/en/blog/14569138/patch-210-ptr-patch-notes-updated-august-13-8-13-2014 . Will probably be grinding keys and riftstones for awhile but when it comes out tomorrow I hope some people will be up for some greater rift runs.

Also, here's some of the dev team goin through all the changes in the patch if you got an hour and a half to spare  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KscEHWUf04c

TLDR=balancing games is hard, I'm definitely a lot more sympathetic after hearing their stories of the challenges involved in trying to make multiple playstyles viable for each class.
26  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently watched Episodes of TELEVISION BOX offerings! on: August 08, 2014, 09:23:02 AM
Watched The Tunnel, the show that was a British-French collaboration based on a Swedish series which then spawned an American adaptation about the US-Mexico border. It was so good I actually watched the US series too and was impressed, though there were some noticeable plot hole. Both series are really good and they're actually quite different so I suggest people give it a shot, actually considering watching the Swedish original now.
27  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: If I were to watch ONE comedy show... on: August 06, 2014, 09:58:28 AM
I watch a lot of comedies, though more comedy movies and anime than american tv shows. But there are some decent ones depending on your taste. If you like SNL style humor, I consider Brooklyn Nine Nine pretty good, though people seem to either really love that show or hate it. The show Community has really differing levels of quality between seasons for some reason but I think seasons one and 2 were really good. Arrested Development and 30 Rock are also shows to consider. All in all thinking about it, there really haven't been that many american comedy shows.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: RPGs that All Children Should Play on: August 01, 2014, 10:40:15 PM
I'm thinking Super Mario RPG, anything pokemans or megaman battle network as those are all kid-friendly, relatively angst-free experiences and fun too. Not so sure about Earthbound as that mu training scene with Poo scared the hell outta me as a kid.

well we can see what the cast of Persona 3 have been up to since I think they're out of college at this point. From what I can tell with all those scars, Akihikos seems to have been traveling the world fighting bears. Assuming Mitsurus running her families corporation, and don't remember what happened with the rest of the P3 cast. Maybe Junpeis story in the P4A sequel will shed some light on what he's been doin since then.

Also I would welcome just a straight graphics update of the SNES Ogre Battle.

It's called Ogre Battle 64 and it's really awesome.

It's kinda weird, I actually prefer the characters of the SNES one even though the plot of Ogre Battle 64 was a lot better. To be fair, the two games do share quite a few characters.
