1  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Bring back RPGBoards on: September 02, 2013, 08:10:49 AM
Everything was better in the 90s. Even message boards where you could only view one post at a time and that post had auto play midis embedded in it.

I think we need a Keith Macross special!

Aye, PM away! I've already got a couple of people interested in things.
5  The Rest / The Bazaar / Selling Almost All My Games - NES, SMS, Genesis, Sega CD, SNES, Saturn, N64 on: August 22, 2013, 09:04:53 PM
So, my wife and I are selling off our awesome video game collection to make space and money for our proposed attic renovation.  We're offering these up in some private groupings on the internets before we go the ebay route.  THESE GAMES ARE FOR OLDER SYSTEMS MOSTLY MEANT AS COLLECTIBLE ITEMS.  I'm going to present the list here for interested parties to peruse.  We will be running a silent auction of sorts for several days to gauge interest from multiple parties.  When more than one person is interested, all parties will be informed of the mutual interest and given time to sort out another bid or concede the game.
First, though, are some comments about the list and games in general:
1. All games are complete in boxes with manuals and extras unless noted individually or at the end of their section (Such as the NES and SNES games).  However, if there is an extra meant to be with an individual title that you know about, please confirm first that we do indeed have it in the box, as we are only human and may have forgotten about it.
2. All prices listed are negotiable.  Feel free to offer a lower bid than what is listed.  Just remember there may be someone else interested whose bid you are unaware of.  If we do not receive any offers higher than a low bid, we may still veto a low bid if it is judged unreasonable.  For example, being the only person to bid on Panzer Dragoon Saga doesn't mean you're going to get it if your bid was $10.
3. Games listed as "also available" can be available individually or in lots, depending on interest.  These have no prices listed because of this.  We can work out lot values on individual basis.  The prices will reflect the grouping discount and/or common nature of the game titles.
4. Any shipping costs will be paid by the buyer.  Therefore, the buyer's preferred shipping method will be used.  Also note that we are volunteering Dennis Rubinshteyn without his knowledge or consent to be an unpaid courier to anyone in the NYC area.
5. We currently do not have pictures of all the available games, but we will gladly photograph any game on request to verify the condition and quality of item.  Just ask.
6. The games are listed by system and then in alphabetical order.  The method for listing the systems is known only to myself.
Without further ado, here is the list of games:

6  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: meeting RPGfanners on: May 15, 2013, 06:34:56 PM
Yeah, I hang with TurnBasedDude (Dennis), from time to time and Ramza (Pat). Ashton comes by from time to time too. Basically, they're like family now, no joke. They even take care of my kids when they're around, it's like free babysitting!

Aside from them, I've hung with Dincrest (Neal), Dancin' Homer/Slime (one of my best friends IRL), and I've met most of the long-time staffers at various E3s, such as KeeperX, Kyuusei, Mike, Rudo, Stephen, that guy, the other one, that ugly chick... LOTS!

oh yeah, I also met Hathen once. He's cool.
7  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Uncharted Waters Online on: March 22, 2013, 08:58:19 PM
For anyone who remembers either Uncharted Waters or (more fondly) Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, the free-to-play MMO just came out today. I had heard about this years ago, but to finally have it come out on Steam and be playable is pretty intense. I've never played an MMO. This will be my first. It may be shitty, but I owe it to my childhood memories of the SNES games to play it. Wish me luck!

I used to use an activity like that to show my students how the media and special interest groups can be telling scientific truths about subjects while still being misleading. www.dhmo.org (and hey, .org so it must be a real agency!)

So that method of multiplication might help you learn basically, but it's REALLY tedious, especially with larger numbers. And frankly, I've always been of the opinion that rote memorization of your times tables is one of the very few times that memorizing something is the best way to use it. And I'm not talking the concept of multiplication, but rather the ability to do two or more digit multiplication. In my history of teaching, I've never found any student who was able to effectively do two+ digit mental or written multiplication quickly and accurately who had not learned his or her times tables via rote memorization.

From a purely economic standpoint, it make sense to encourage healthy eating habits to control health insurance and medical costs, which is the only reason I care about anyone I don't know not becoming obese. That being said, I really have no clue whether or not this will work. And since I live in NJ, I don't care!
11  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: So, Job-wise... on: July 17, 2012, 06:27:39 PM
I'd rather have a job I truly enjoy and make less money than make a ton of money doing a job that crushes my soul.  I can't put a price tag on my happiness and sanity.
First. That's pretty much my situation and I wouldn't want it any other way. Besides, I can stretch those peanuts I get paid pretty far. Combine that with not having many wants or needs and life is quite comfortable.

On the other hand, I guess getting decent pay for a job I don't have and having enough spare time to enjoy it would be nice, too...

Hi people without kids. </asshat>

All in all, safe job for me. I had my dream job and it didn't pay enough. Now I have a depressing job, but I can afford to keep my family off the streets. Fair trade.

Being the choosen one doesn't seem to be a good thing anymore. :|

It certainly wasn't during WWII. Also, I guess, if that article can be believed, Keanu isn't so bad. Of course, this could just be made up. Fact check anyone?

I hate All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carrey. Play that to make my ears bleed. That's a fun party game.
