1  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Assholes whine about black guy cast in Thor movie on: December 22, 2010, 12:51:15 AM
Let's not forget that people had no problem with a white guy being a Persian prince in Prince of Persia, a predominantly white cast playing characters in an Asian setting in The Last Airbender, a white guy playing an Asian superhero in Dragonball Evolution, a bunch of white kids playing in lieu of the true group of Asians in 21, a white guy being the last samurai to rekindle their honor in The Last Samurai, and more I probably haven't even thought of yet.
I actually had problems with all of those, except the Last Samurai... Okay, well I did have my doubts while watching it for the first time but I was able to make the leap of faith for that one in the end. The Prince of Persia bothered me the most since Jake Gyllenhall (I have no idea of I spelled that right... probably not) is so obviously white. That being said the movie was actually really good if not what I had hoped for. Same goes for the other movies in this list.

As for Thor, I don't really care so long as the movie is good. Don't know why, I just don't. *shrugs*

Also, racist people suck.

I plan on becoming a teacher to this interests me.

As for my opinion on the matter, I agree what he did was legal although as a teacher he should know better. As someone stated earlier, there are always ethical lines you just don't cross. A teacher having a relationship with a student is one of those.

Of course, if a certain amount of time has passed since the student graduated I think it could be okay depending on the situation. I would say 4-5 years should be the minimum. Still, it's probably something you would try to avoid.

Trying to hold teachers to different standards than the general public though pisses me off. People can and will date people much older than themselves. There is no reason a teacher should get five years for dating a student that is of legal age if some other guy can do the same thing and not be charged with anything. This just seems like an unnecessary gut reaction by lawmakers to me.
3  Media / General Games / Re: Tatsunoko vs Capcom on: December 18, 2008, 10:07:59 AM
Too bad I don't have a wii... This game seriously looks good.

Btw, I found it funny when they were talking about what characters we should know they didn't mention Morrigan, Roll, and Batsu who should all be familiar. I didn't watch the whole video though so I don't know what other characters are in their but I think their should be more than a few familiar ones.
4  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suggestions for American RPG's? on: December 16, 2008, 11:57:40 PM
I know you posted this in the console section but if you're not excluding computer games or mmo's then I highly suggest Diablo II and it's expansion if you haven't played it yet. Easily among my top ten favorite games.

Also, I thought Morrowind sucked too. I can't even begin to tell you how many things were wrong with that game. Lets just say I tried to pick it up several times before I just gave up.

"Why did you do that for? It is hurt."

6  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: .....sort of new to rpg's on: November 23, 2008, 01:16:20 AM
This is why all turn-based RPGs should include an item or some kind of option to skip battles. Repel in Poke'mon works but it costs a little. In Legaia I think there was a relatively inexpensive item for both increasing and decreasing random encounters.

Other games have tried less succesful attempts, for example Wild Arms 3's ECN gauge. It wasn't a bad idea but it was limited. You could increase the size of your gauge making it last longer but it's still limited and you'd have to get farther in the game to do so.

If games just do this I think there would be little reason for anyone to complain. I mean, I guess some people will still prefer action RPGs but I prefer random encounters and turn-based action.
7  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Re: East Asian Language support on: November 23, 2008, 01:05:23 AM
Yeah. Computers suck. I had a bought a refurbished HP computer recently only to find out that it would only operate with Windows Vista.

Glad you figured it out though.

IMEs are for input (read: typing) not for display. Although if you can get the IMEs to work that probably means the languages are already installed.

You can try downloading specific language packs (like Japanese, Korean) from Microsoft's website if your CD isn't working.

If you're have a language installed and the correct characters aren't showing up on a webpage go to view>encoding and try out a few different ones until you find the write one that makes the characters appear correctly.

As for installing languages, I no longer have XP (I'm running Vista) so I can't help you unless you give me screen shots or something. Otherwise, I know that you go to Control Panel>Regional and Language options to add languages. Again, it might prompt you for the CD so try getting it from Microsoft's website.

Installing IMEs (input method editors) for typing in another language is done the same way. Just click on add keyboards or something and find the proper IME from the list (ex. Japanese IME). Then, if the language bar isn't already displayed try right-clicking on your task bar to add it.

Let me know if any of this is helpful. I'm just kind of rambling here.

That story was more like a waste of my time :/
11  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Gamer personality test thing on: October 26, 2008, 01:49:54 AM
This test fails. I got the Daredevill.

It says I prefer competitive games which is quite the opposite. I prefer RPGs because they are one of the least competitive. Don't get my wrong, I DO have a competitive side but that usually only comes out in RPGs where being a thinker and planning ahead helps. And even then it's only when I'm playing with someone like me, or against someone that sucks :P
12  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Obama's in my video games. on: October 26, 2008, 01:31:53 AM
I think that's a highly personal and deeply faulty logic you're using. Not meaning any insult mind you, but the fact is that current events ARE advertising. Reebok is advertising itself as it is NOW, and its products are NOW. Is it political? No. So it doesn't tread on some people's ideas about politics. But in my case I have good reason to dislike them, being at least a good part anti-consumerist. I could go ahead and complain that I don't want ANY advertising in my games, but that's unreasonable and silly.

Everyone can complain about everything; the question is what harm is it doing, or what meaning does it have?
Yeah, you're right and I agree completely. I just didn't mention it because that's not the point I was trying to make. And yes, what I said was a personal belief. Although I'm willing to bet there are a lot less anti-consumerists than people with political views (which is like everyone, even if they say they aren't into politics).
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: If you were stranded on an island and you could have one rpg what would it be? on: October 24, 2008, 10:27:31 PM
Suikoden IV. Then I could be stranded on an island with a game where I'm stranded on an island. Sweet.

Yeah, I don't think anyone noticed :P
15  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Obama's in my video games. on: October 24, 2008, 10:12:20 PM
That's kind of not what I meant either, although those are good observations. Another example would be Blade: The Series where one of the main protagonists is a female Iraq War vet. That always bugged me since the whole thing with the war pissed me off. I still enjoyed the show but I would have preferred if they writers hadn't tried to stick current events into the show. That's not advertisement really but you see what I mean right?
