Media / Single-Player RPGs / My Favorite Part About Idiotic Fanboys.

I don't think I've argued with anyone in real life over RPGs, at least not since high school anyway.
Even on the Internet, I tend to shy away from arguments about games. I don’t see the point in interjecting, unless there is a massive hole in someone’s logic that nobody else has noted.

Media / Single-Player RPGs / FFT PSP slowdown "not that bad," says S-E

I remember reading somewhere that they were going to fix some of the slowdown. It’s kind of disappointing to hear that they don’t really care enough to fix it. Being a PAL gamer I never got to play the original, so I’ll still be buying it.

The Valkyrie Profile series is pretty depressing, and it’s received a decent amount of success. I haven't finished the second game, but the "good ending" (the ending with all the plot) of the first game is pretty possitive: Lenneth recreates the world, brings Lucian back to life, and they embrace: "fin". How is that a negative ending? Ah, I never said the best ending in Valkyrie Profile was depressing. I was talking about the game in general. How you have to travel from village to village getting dying people to join your army for the afterlife. It was all the little tales, about how each person died, that I found depressing.

Media / Single-Player RPGs / Games I wish I would have finished ~ with a twist

Count yourself lucky you didn't get the European version - for some unknown reason the quicksave function was removed altogether, making it ridiculously difficult. I managed to finish it, but it was a hard slog and I wouldn't want to go through it again. I really can't understand what possessed them to decide to remove it.
I think it might have to do with a trick you can do to copy items using a glitch between a quick save and a normal save. Otherwise I have no idea. It's still one of my favourite PS2 games though. I've finished it several times.

Final Fantasy XII- Easily the most frustrating game I have ever played. The way the game props up the difficulty is brutal and sadistic. Leveling is slow, the battle system is neither fun nor frustrating, it's simply not there. The game decides whether or not you fall down or the enemy does (it seems to be me more often than not). Keeping your entire party leveled to where they can survive story-based boss battles requires undue amounts of grinding that moves at a painfully slow rate. I don't know if I'll warm up to this game ever again. The biggest letdown ever.
You had to grind? Why? Really, equipment and tactics matter over everything else. Outside of doing hunts, I never did any grinding at all; I just made sure I stole from every enemy to ensure I had enough funds to buy equipment. Tactics wise it was just a matter of casting the right buffs, wearing the right equipment, finding out what ailments the enemy is weak against etc. I never felt the game was particularly hard or sadistic.

The Tales of Eternia port on the PSP works very well as a handheld title.
There's no problems with load times or graphics either.

Media / Single-Player RPGs / FFXII what do you think about it?

I loved the gameplay of FF12, and I was more than happy to venture off mid game and do a few random hunts. But I do wish the game had more character development. I'd love the game a lot more if the characters were more fleshed out.
