601  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Final Fantasy Tactics PSP on: May 09, 2007, 10:06:36 PM
I'll still play it (I never got to play the original), but it's dissapointing to hear that it plays worse than the original. Tales of Eternia and Valkyrie Profile work so well on the PSP.

And I think you're missing out on several really good games Marshmallow, the PSP has really beefed up it's library in the past year or so.

Ugh, emo is such an overused term, and I agree that the general definition of emo doesnít apply to Squall. Really my problems with Squall are all to do with personal taste. He spends a large part of the game shying away from everyone else, refusing to share his thoughts and feelings with those around him, although as the player we get to see how the events affect him through the little inner monologues that he has.

Heís an overly negative fellow, socially awkward, and ever opinionated despite his ďwhateverĒ attitude. My problem with him stems from the simple fact that he is so depressingly negative at times. And yes, I understand why he has the loner persona, and I know that he starts to really take charge and becomes more confident around disk 3, but for the most part he's not the type of character Iíd like to play as.

Iím sure thereís someone out there with a list of all the plot flaws in FFVII and FFVIII. I think a lot of FFVIIís problems come from some of the rough translation.

I didnít mind FFVIIIís dialogue, but Squallís whiny inner monologues annoyed me to no end.

With the exception of FFVII, I donít think thereís a single Final Fantasy that has as many plot holes or silly plot twists as FFVIII.

I just finished Phantasy Star 4. Fun game, I'll probably make a start on 2 now.

And I'm basically playing DDS, Suikoden V and FF12 at the same time.

I donít see why you needed a gameshark to finish Dragon Quarter. The D-Counter is easy to get around as long as you severely limit your dragon usage (heck, you only need to use the dragon form twice). Iíve found it rather easy to get to the end of the game with only 20% of my D-Counter used up.

Also, did you play through the game again for the extra scenes/dungeons? Itís worth replaying just to get the extra scenes with Bosch.
607  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Why not: all time favourite RPG on: April 18, 2007, 09:26:18 PM
Tales of Eternia also got a PAL release on the PSP. If you have the system I'd reccomend buying it, or importing it if you are from America. It works suprisingly well as a handheld game.

I played and finished Legend of Legaia when I was around 12. It has it's flaws, but I remember enjoying it a lot (especially the combat).
608  Media / Single-Player RPGs / i give up. on: March 22, 2007, 09:24:24 PM
I needed a solid strategy to defeat half the bosses I fought so far in FF12. I mean, I did go back and visit a few areas for hunts and such, but so far Iíve gotten through the game and a perfectly reasonable level, and Iíve found that casting the right spells and wearing the right equipment, makes a much bigger difference than being at a higher level.

Meh, dunno if i'll buy this game even if it ever does come out in Europe. I think WA3's absurdly long lifespan has put me off Wild Arms - though it still remains one of my favourite rpgs on ps2. Do all WA games have 100+ hours of game time?

Wild Arms 4 is very short. It will take less than 25 hours to complete the main storyline.

And I hope Wild Arms 5 get's a PAL release (although the PAL Wild Arms 4 had some terrible bugs in it, there were a few places where the game would freeze in the default PAL settings).

I'll give another shout out for Wild Arms 4. It wasnít too challenging and I finished it in around 25 hours. Itís a lot less epic than the earlier Wild Arms games.
