A lot of times i feel like kotaku is the gawker of video game journalism.  But this recent editorial by Jason Schreier is still pretty thought provoking. Is there some validity to this, or am I just being a mark?

Also this reply was about as spot on an any I've read in quite a while:

""If Final Fantasy XV doesn't do well, perhaps there's not much of a future for console games. It kind of really depends on how that goes.""

"I'm really scared about this, because a console industry that's just EA, Ubisoft and Activision pissing at each other and farting out annual sequels to the same three or four franchises over and over again quite literally doesn't need to exist. Without Japan to offer a design counterpoint to the ridiculous homogenization promoted by the Western AAA industry, gaming is essentially pointless. Indie games simply cannot make up for the loss of that voice."

Single-Player RPGs / A bird story (to the moon prequel)
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:12:37 PM »
I don't know about anyone else on this board, but To the Moon was a game I enjoyed so much I ended up playing it twice in row (the second time in front of my girlfriend).  On August 12th it was announced that the game's prequel (if you can really call it that) is coming out on November 5th of this year.
Here's the trailer:

While I am still amped to see what FreeBird does next, it was still a bit of a disappointment to hear that the new title focuses on the original childhood of the patient from the first game and not the two Dr's Watts and Roseline traveling through dying people's mind brain. i still plan on playing the absolute hell out of it, but the whole thing kind of feels like if Naughty Dog went ahead and made the next The Last of Us title about the Fireflies' struggle against the remnant US government and left out the Zombie narrative  (which TOTALLY might happen, because UGGGGGGH) thoughts???

(Note: the search function on this board is garbage, but as far as I can tell no one else has posted about this. If I am error let me know)

Single-Player RPGs / Why would I buy a ps4?
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:57:36 PM »
For real though, with the MAYBE possible exception of Transistor are there any halfway decent PS4 exclusive RPG's out yet?  What conceivable reason can anyone give me for forking over 400 dollars for a next gen console?

Anime, TV, and Movies / Persona 3 Movie
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:47:08 PM »
I saw there was a thread on this earlier but I watched a pretty rough cut of it and wasn't entirely...thrilled  with what I saw.  I think after playing the game for almost 80 hours I had a pretty solid idea of who the SP (silent protagonist) was.  Unfortunately, the movie film sort of portrayed him as more of a cloud strife/squall type asshole than I was ready to deal with.  I also think they dropped the ball with Aegis (by far the best character in the game) by not giving her enough depth.   Did anyone else that actually played through the games and then watched the film have a similar experience?  Am I just being a butt hurt nerd and asking for more than a 90 minute film can realistically deliver?

Anime, TV, and Movies / Buying the Cowboy Beebop Box Set...
« on: August 22, 2014, 04:35:28 PM »
for the girlfriend's birthday.  There are roughly a 1000 different variations of various detail and prices.  I know I don't want to simply get her the baseline run of the mill $40 version.  Any suggestions on purchasing a snazzy deluxe version of the series (and extras, if possible)?

Any and all help is much appreciated.
