1  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age: Origins on: October 10, 2009, 02:48:22 AM
As much as I try to deny it, I want this game so badly that October feels like it's creeping by very slowly.
2  Media / Miscellaneous Games / No More Heroes on: January 30, 2008, 10:22:29 AM
I've gone ahead and purchased myself a copy of No More Heroes when I was able to finally track down a copy. I'm pleased that it's easier on the senses than Killer7 was and there's still considerable challenge to be had.

Of course, Travis had me at '....moe....'

Right now, I'm still just roaming around, enhancing my saber, and doing side missions for extra cash before taking on #8.
3  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Worst Hero & Villain on: January 30, 2008, 09:50:28 AM
Das's dildoes, Prime Mova. D-Rider's brutal.

On the subject of worst hero/villain, is it possible to nominate all of FFX-2? Please?

I /loved/ the battle system and wished it had been utilized in any other game than this one. What we get is a follow-up to an already questionable RPG. Now Yuna is the main character and it's her turn to whine around Spira while throwing on mostly-stupid looking outfits while performing concerts with her main buddies, the Not-So-Yunas.

The other organizations that exist are laughable at best. Was I supposed to take Leblanc seriously? Did Nooj go to the same hair stylist as Seymour? Why the hell do I still remember all of these names?

It's like a fanfic come to life by the breath of Nomura. I think I'll carry this scar no matter how many other games I play.
4  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Official (cause I said so) Mass Effect Thread...GO! on: November 29, 2007, 12:51:01 PM
Tech skills are great for taking down geth and disabling your other opponents' weapons and shields. It does take a bit more strategy to use effectively than combat/biotic skills, but they aren't gimped. Also, it depends on what teammates you pick to supplement your Shepard. Since I picked Infiltrator (tech/combat) on my second playthrough, I picked Liara for biotics and Wrex for combat/biotics and we tear up just about everything that gets in our way.

The best strategy I found for Thresher Maws after they ate my Mako a few times was to lure it up from underground, stay out of claw-hitting distance and shoot at it with the regular gun (RT) and the cannon (RB) while hopping the Mako over the acid projectiles. No need to circle the damn worm, just stay in place once you've achieved the best distance to have it spit at you and not dash back underground. Now they are easy experience for me. :)

As for my opinions on this game, I'm still not quite sure where I stand even after playing through it twice. I feel quite mixed since I want to not compare this to previous Bioware endeavours, but it's kinda inevitable. Is it possible to be quite satisfied and disappointed at the same time? :S

Man, I feel jittery waiting for UPS to show with my package.

It's almost like waiting for Christmas morning when I was a kid. That antsy, excited feeling that permeates your whole being that keeps you from really sleeping.

Now, I'm jumping to look out my window anytime I hear a big vehicle drive along. I hope I don't burn all my energy simply in the /waiting/ for Mass Effect's arrival...

I'm interested, Lard. Thanks for sharing. :)
7  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Official (cause I said so) Mass Effect Thread...GO! on: November 19, 2007, 04:32:21 PM
I had a thread for ME a while ago, but starting a new one is probably for best.

I'm in the same boat as Serene Prophet. Once ME was announced, I knew I'd buy a 360 just for it like KOTOR. Thankfully, the 360 has had a plethora of entertaining games to make the wait a little more bearable.

The days have grown longer now as the game approaches and I feel like time is crawling as ME should be available tomorrow. My hands refuse to play anything else; they are primed for some ME goodness.

As I devour the various reviews, I'm gladden to see that the minor problems aren't going to be that big of a deal. I'm in this for the story, characters and everything in between.

Mass Effect. I'm ready.
8  The Rest / General Discussions / EA to Acquire BioWare Corp. and Pandemic Studios on: October 11, 2007, 10:18:49 PM
Oh.. I think something died inside.

It really depends on how they handle these two. Will they go the Origin way or the Maxis way? Either way, I'm worried about the integrity of Bioware's future RPGs (Mass Effect 2 & 3, Dragon Age, Jade Empire). Will those franchises get whored out to every console possible? Will we have another Wing Commander Arena on our hands?

EA, you are too brutal for me.
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Eternal Sonata (aka pretension sucks!) on: October 04, 2007, 01:36:24 PM
Fact: Don't leave the audio track to Japanese before facing the end. Unless you have a grasp on the Japanese language, half of the ending has no subtitles at all due to the titles rolling. Sure, I could've reset and changed my audio, but I was already half way through before the titles started to roll and I stopped caring. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

I really wanted to like this game. I love the battle system, but it doesn't make up for the lack of characterization and the story slowly building up to simply fall apart at the end. As the title says, it didn't need to be as pretentious as turned out to be.
10  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Lost Odyssey set for December in Japan, Feburary US/EU on: September 12, 2007, 11:15:38 AM
'greatest holiday season EVER!' ... in Japan. Shhh. Noone needs to know that detail. >.> <.<

I'm intrigued by this game and relieved it's coming out later because I want to give it the attention it (hopefully) deserves. Otherwise, it wouldn't win when it comes down to this or Mass Effect.
11  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Jeanne d'Arc on: September 12, 2007, 11:05:50 AM
I've been waffling on purchasing this title. I likely will, but I'm kind of tapped for a while after caving in and placing a preorder for the Crisis Core PSP Lite Bundle.

... I'm hopeless.
12  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Wild Arms 5 on: September 04, 2007, 08:35:51 PM
Whew. I got the last copy when I went looking this weekend from my local Gamestop. The one near my home is tolerable, since I can buy new games without the hassle of the preowned speel.

Well, it goes into the fount of unplayed games. Persona 3 beckons.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon on: August 14, 2007, 12:02:37 AM
Same here. Rune Factory will be ruling my lunching hour.

I have an intense love for Harvest Moon games. Well, except Save the Homeland and Innocent Life. Those are pretty meh.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Anyone interested in Bioshock? on: August 12, 2007, 10:49:49 PM
If only there was a distraction till August 21th arrives.. (well, other than Persona 3)

Maybe a X360 demo will do?
15  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Mass Effect on: August 02, 2007, 09:32:06 AM
To each his own. For me, this game has me in a mode I rarely ever experience. It's double-edged. If the game sucks, it'll be like hitting concrete after jumping from a tall building. If not, I might rapture.

To feed my frenzy, I post things like this. Courtesy of this thread.

Enjoy. :)
