There's a serious lack of specificity on internet forum discussions, and it's grinding my tent.

So, what exactly counts as a basic signature dish and what exactly do you do to obtain it?

Also my Hungry Man dinner binge was nothing like my 2 weeks of Bacanators... now that's something that could not be sustained...

Well I hate Kingdom Hearts with a fiery passion but enjoy both XII and XV so...

Olive Garden is like "Italian" food, right? Why not try making your own version of some of their dishes at home? Basic Italian food is pretty easy to make and it's probably healthier than what a restaurant chain serves.

I'm glad you asked Tomara, because I can reveal that I cannot stand to make stuff.. I once attempted to make a grilled cheese using a hot dog bun... that's the extent of my cooking experience, and it's because it was the only thing left in the apartment.

And it still went bad, so I didn't eat it..

On the other hand, I'm super skilled at microwaving, why I know all the tricks.

Like with Hungry Man dinners you should do 4 min the first time in and then you can actually go 2 min instead of 3 min if you want the second time in.. that rule also seems to generically apply to Marie Calendars, and other related items the instructions are really important until the final step some flexibility actually might yield some better potatos.

I also have a hot dog recipe I've worked on, microwave a hot dog for 52.3 seconds.

So yeah mostly microwaving things and the Olive Garden.

I also don't like the word food, can we use "essence" instead?

no, because a "Artimicia's Essence aid plea" thread sounds...ah... somewhat less inviting to comment on.

Lol ok.

Well now I'm taking the solution I had when I was younger which is just lots of the Olive Garden.

I really like the Olive Garden I guess.

Everybody kept saying "Play Vagrant Story, its so great! You'll love it!"

Never bothered to tell me anything about the game

5 Hours in: "This game is horrible, does this first dungeon ever end?"

So I vote for Bloodborne because I was pleasantly surprised instead of completely misled.

It has some decent camerawork during the cutscenes which were, and still are, rather rare in the world of videogames. It's kinda like Ico or Shadow of the Colossus in that regard.

The actual gameplay though was kinda cumbersome, even back in the day, let alone now. Also, Lea Monde isn't just the first dungeon as its the entire game (barring the opening), which is both kinda cool and also incredibly restrictive. Its kinda like a hybrid of Symphony of the Night meets Parasite Eve 1, but clumsier than the former and more in-depth than the latter. Also, it exists for OCD spergs to go crazy on due to the game's weapon crafting mechanics.

Its also infamous for requiring the mastery of a pair of rather poorly explained mechanics to actually beat the game's final boss due to the utterly bullshit inflated stats it pulls on you (its more designed around a refight after the game's sudo-NG+ mechanic, which unfortunately requires beating it the first time to reach).

That said, of the two, it's the only one I've played, so it gets my vote. Also, it's peak Alexander O'Smith.

I agree on everything even though I'm not voting except one thing.. I think the final fight was actually the best part of the game... and why even X number of years later I think the game is at least worth playing.

I didn't expect them to kind of break the repetitive patterns of either ultra long boss fights with repeateable ultra powerful phases, or kind of singular easy to beat ones.. it's sorta in the middle with weird mechanics that either make you think it's really hard to really easy but is often neither.

Wow that sounds pretty good I suppose... a lot of thought and energy into it.

Anyway I found this article

http://skillet.lifehacker.com/how-do-you-pack-the-perfect-lunch-1798156694

As I was reading, I realized one of the disconnects I'm experiencing is I think it's kind of assumed that most people get all their "meat/potato" sandwich from a market of some kind.. like supermarket or smaller market it's not specified.

It's one issue for me I realize because I don't like any of the market/supermarket food and items to make food. I also don't like the word food, can we use "essence" instead?

But yeah, I think it's assumed that there's a market interaction of some kind... either of the super or smaller variety...

General Games / The importance of endings in video games
« on: August 29, 2017, 06:10:51 PM »
Ok so I'm trying to understand just why I care more about Game of Thrones than like all the other games that come out, or why I can't stand MOBAs and other popular genres, is because they lack what I would consider one of the most important elements in an artistic genre, which is a definitive ending of some kind...

Not necessarily the most happy ending, but definitely, an ending.

Even though Game of Thrones isn't a video game series, as Season 7 finishes I start to get the really strong sense that this is something where you have all the tension and drama and whatever else, but the ending will actually be something that you get to really finish. You walk away satisfied going, oh yeah! So that happened to so and so, and that's how what happened to that person, and so on and so forth...

Of course, most video games have endings, even really bad or old ones, or long and short ones... but some don't, and some are pretty popular.

Like take the World of Warcraft, which I've played for many years, as time went on, for whatever reason, the final boss, for lack of a better description, was removed from most player's possible completion.. unlike WC2 and WC3 which were beaten handily by moi, the MMO takes hours and hours and lots of mini-requirements like networking in order to finally beat the final boss.

That means leveling and busting through mobs, with no real resolution, which I think really sucks and is why I slowly stopped playing the game over the years....

But it's in other aspects now, also, I think about, even games with endings, how important is it to finish the game in order to evaluate it? I definitely have had my opinion changed dramatically over the course of an experience, from "this game sucks" to "WOW, I'm so glad I finished that"

One case in point would be Suikoden 3, which I think has probably the slowest and most unassuming beginning of any JRPG, but ends up in the 2nd half being a completely different experience that really challenged all my conceptions about what the experience was about...

I would say the same for Star Ocean 2, which ended up having a vastly bigger scope than what I had originally envisioned...

So I guess really what do you think about endings? Do you care about them? How do you define them? When is a game, ostensibly about which the goal is to "win" or "complete some objective" over?

I certainly don't subscribe to the idea that it's about completionism... in general I prefer to let the game designers themselves speak about the topic, such as when you would get the class "Fin" or literal "the end."

So in FFXIV, which generously included credits, even though it's an MMO, that was clearly the point at which the game concluded, for me, and it also worked in other ways because Minfilia and Co and all the characters had resolutions of a kind, similar to Game of Thrones.

Fucking YT is on scroll and it landed on the North Korean military female pop bands rendition of Hi Ho from Snow White/Disney.

"hi shi na ni!" ok I can't translate...

This is my life I guess.

Although honestly it's a pretty cool rendition so there's that.

Oh wow and a segue into the Waltz of flowers from Fantasia/Tchaikovsky... but with rock guitars...

And closing with stuffed versions of Tiger and Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse wandering around, and it's a small world.. playing..

.....I must say I am impressed... I didn't know it was possible.

You know now I remember.. you could play FF5 with the anthology CD that was 5 and 6.. but I had already played 6 and thus didn't want to get the bundle.

If they had released it as one single entry similar to the DS edition of 3, or even 2 FFs that I hadn't played such as I and II with the Origins release on PSX, well then I can and did play all of those.

Like today it was a chocolate doughnut and a chocolate crossaint for me.. then thinking of trying to go a new pizza place later to try the pizza.

Well and some pickles, and ruffles chips, eating rather sporadically...

The closest pizza place to me is kinda far and actually fairly energy demanding to get to so it'll be awhile...

Wow I completely fucking forgot I made this thread.. my brain is a semi-train wreck this year and last... blergh.

I just noticed it just because I saw it XD

But anyway, I'll be sure to see if anyone has good ideas... the ones I slapped together on my own are

1. Through a connection to a local college, college cafeteria food, and I have to say, this was the best idea perhaps so far.
2. More Italian? But it's all about finding authentic Italian... what with so many delis these days masquerading as Italian and it turning into the worst experience I'm wary... but if I can find a good one...
3. I wonder if those midwest fast food places are any good.. or some of the newer ones like Shake Shack or something else.. basically some of those places might actually be good but no idea how to get them. The one with the butter burger, maybe.

I actually FINALLY admit that my size is becoming a hindrance. The back pain is becoming intolerable and I can't filter out any other causes aside from being overly heavy. After my plane pull at the end of september, I'm gonna switch my eating habits around to start losing weight. It's gonna suck, I'm gonna be angry always, and I see alot of grilled chicken and steamed vegetables in my future.

At some point in my journey to lose weight I went all-in with the calorie counts, constantly weighing my food and eating things I really hated (Personally I find protein powder awful- no matter what flavor it came in it always had that awful aftertaste). Sometimes I got cranky because I couldn't eat what I wanted to. It's a pain so hang in there.

On the bright side, grilled chicken is delicious. It just sucks eating it all the time.
Oh yeah, I could eat grilled chicken all day every day, it's the lack of other stuff besides the chicken that's going to drive me over the edge. I tried calorie counting back in february for like a month, attempting below 2,000 a day, and after 2 weeks of it I was just always annoyed and I felt like trash, and I did it for another 3 weeks anyway. At the tine I was just trying to see how it would work with my existing workout regimen, and they were not compatible, so when I start this new regimen I'll know to lift lighter at least and not try to pick up extreme amounts...but I have such a vehement dislike for this upcoming diet...I love my burgers...

I've just never been a big burger person, so even though they tend to be hard on people's diets I just don't worry for taste reasons.

I've never been one of those vegeterian-ish people or whatever that never eats meat but a hamburger is kinda heavy on it normally so I shy away.

What I find odd is that fruit juice often has around the same calories (by volume) as soda.  I guess the fruit juice is better nutritionally, but if you're trying to lose weight, it's not like one's automatically better than the other.  Although I love me some Boylan black cherry soda (their birch beer is good too), I try to keep my soda drinking down to once or twice a week.  I avoid diet drinks like the plague.  I think I'm allergic to aspartame.

...what was this thread about again?  Oh, yeah.
Breakfast is either greek yogurt, a muffin, or any suitable leftovers (if I eat the leftover dessert for breakfast, it won't be there to tempt me later).
Lunch is usually a peanut butter & honey sandwich, cheese, carrots, and celery.  I used to use the cafeteria at work, but they served manufacted chicken once too often (it doesn't matter how good the chef or the recipe, if the main ingredient is rubber).
Supper varies widely, but there's often meat and green vegetables involved.  I rarely go out to eat more than once a week.

Wow see now that sounds pretty good but I'd have some trouble somehow getting all that together.. somehow.. maybe.

Yeah basically my thread is trying to hone on what people actually do for certain things... like there's eating in an abstract "I think Dennys is great for everyone" but then there's just literally what people are doing and keeping a track of that might yield some sustainable results for those at a loss to understand how everyone else does it.. without wanting to either throw up from the quality or getting stuck in one too many over busy parking lots.
