XIII-2 restored my faith in Square Enix so I am sure they will be able to deliver with this new tech.

The OST+ is pretty great. I LOVE the remixes of an already phenomenal soundtrack.

If you're talking about Noel's Theme, then you're totally wrong and it's a fantastic track.

(We really need to change the "Spoiler Tag" to the Quote+Black Text Colour... I hate reading a paragraph in a marquee).

He is cool, but I still think he gets too much love, mainly because his motives for saving Yeul, and extraordinarily bland character to begin with and completely irrelevant to the series till 13-2 and it's "new-fiction" (i.e.; switching from Fal'cie centered plot to a Time Travel one) is stupid.  IF maybe he had a daughter that was born as a "Yeul", it'd make a bit more sense, but she is otherwise just a tragic lass.  Yeul does suffer a tragic fate, but none so stupid to destroy time and order and everything else for her sake (in effect wiping even them two from it).

I think Serah's absolutely impossibly styled hair is what gets me the most.  The mullet out back, curls on the side, and the most bizarre blend of real-life-anime bangs in front. o_<
But, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, at least JRPGs like giving long hair to their characters... Mass Effect gave you a choice of buzzcut, man-do, or short bob.

Incorrect. Yeul is the writer of the Analects in FFXIII.

It's also easy to think it's good if you go in with really, REALLY low expectations. I'd take this over SO4 any day, at least FFXIII-2 seems to know HOW to have fun with itself.
Yeah, I think that may be what bittered you to 13-2, Ashton. You played Mass Effect 3, which was a good story SHUT UP YES IT WAS A GOOD STORY, and then followed it with 13-2 which was infinitely less impressive. I went into 13-2 having just finished 13. I had absolutely nowhere to go but up from there.

I came off of Xenoblade so that definitely isn't it.
Played Xenoblade, was disappointed, and XIII-2 was definitely a step up.

Story isn't that bad. Still like it better than persona 3, but I truly hate persona 3. Besides, the gameplay and music still give the game a good feel. The characters are likeable, the fights were challenging at times....sort of, and overall the game was well made. Yes, the story was pretty terrible, at least the ending was cool. Plus, Caius is awesome.
People very much exaggerate it. XIII-2's story is actually good, it's just not told very well. Caius is probably the best villain the series has had since Kuja.

I'm just not digging it. I'm usually one to love mixing of styles, but Koto and 80s orchestral hits just don't go well together.

Honestly, I just really hate orchestral hits used like this. They're tolerable (I've used them on occasion) as incidental punctuation ONCE IN A WHILE, but they were NEVER designed to play melody on. It just makes the song sound like a kid playing with a cheap Casio keyboard.

Especially since I'm so intimately familiar with The Black Mages version, which is really good.
I think the Black Mages version is kinda boring and rote, honestly. The Samurai mix is just so different, I love it.

I didn't even know about the Gilgamesh DLC! I heard some people wishing for it months ago, but that's cool that they did it. I wonder if they'll just license the Black Mages version of the music, that would be cool.

They're using a new samurai-esque remix for the Gilgamesh battle.

I think that would be great, Hope and Noel being the leads. For one thing, on Hope's end, it would deal with one of the biggest question marks left danging at the end of FFXIII-2:

Code:
Alicia

One thing that sorta bothers me is that often games and movies really fail to capture one of the most appealing aspects of romantic relationships: do they work well together? So many times, romantic leads are damsels in distress who are completely helpless, and could never work with the protagonist as an equal. I've found this to be one of the centerpieces of my romantic relationships, and those around me. The thing that feels natural about Noel and Sarah is that they work together, on equal terms, and seem to do quite well. As opposed to Snow, who did all the work and expected Sarah to stay back in town with the kids.

Same with Alicia and Hope. They work so closely together, as coworkers, through so much, and they're always shown together, yet the subject never even jokingly comes up. If it were real life, I would definitely suspect that something was going on.

I usually hate doing pairings in video games, I think it's cheap and cheesy. But in this case, FFXIII-2 has created some really great relationships... just not culminating them into full-blown romances. It feels to me like they've created two of the most natural romantic relationships in jRPG history, yet they fail to notice!
Alyssa was dealt with at the end of XIII-2 in one of the Paradox Endings.

I'm not very literate at all, but I liked FFXIII's story. It was presented well, with a cast of  characters I actually cared about (a first for the entire series) and I felt were well developed, was very focused, and managed to get across its themes and messeges to someone as thick as me without feeling like it's being hammered into my head. Maybe it needed some work on the finer details, but at least on the surface it's very well done. If you really want an example of a godawful story, just take a look at XIII-2. Even I could write a book on how bad that story is. =P
XIII-2's story really isn't as bad as people exaggerate it to be; at the very least, it's better than XIII's, and has a great antagonist.

The FNC world and mythology is probably the best in the series, though; the best option would be to hire a better writer to create games in the universe they have. We'll see if they opt for that or not, though.

I still don't agree. There's been nothing issued about it and until they mention XIII-3 in some sort of press announcement I don't really see them doing anything else with the game besides DLCs. XIII-2 simply didn't sell enough to warrant another game.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: March 26, 2012, 03:52:22 AM
Well, considering it ended with a to be continued, it's safe to say the gamr ain't done yet.
Their reasons for that are so that you'll go back and get the Paradox Endings. Unless they announce XIII-3 after Lightning's DLC comes out in a month or two, I highly doubt it will occur.

I would be fine with it ending like that. Ballsy, awesome, great ending. I really doubt XIII-3 will happen. Really, really doubt it.

Plains of Eternity is one of the few songs that I can hear for hours without getting sick of it. I didn't even knew that I could enjoy that type of music so much.
Plains of Eternity is my favorite dungeon BGM of the series. It's really, really addictive.
