I finished LA Noire last night.

I liked it overall, although I thought the ending was a little flat.

It's interesting to see a GTA style game with most of the fat trimmed out.

I guess really it was more like an adventure game than a GTA game, but I still enjoyed it.

I really hope this gets localised.

Wii-U needs some third party support.

It seems like Koei Tecmo is trying to gauge interest in NA for the title.

Unfortunately, games made by committee and focus group are never going to work because everyone wants something different.

They need to pick a vision and go for it without sucking up to people.

I am finding LA Noire oddly compelling.

I made it to homicide detective last night.

I like the fact that you can let your partner drive, which basically means all you do is focus on the cases.

It's the closest Rockstar has come to making an adventure game.

And we didn't get Ciel nosurge, correct?

Bear in mind, the companies that do that the most, like Bethesda or Bioware, tend to release big DLC chunks over the course of a year and a half or so, not all at once.

Yeah, but Atlus has been pulling this stuff since SMT III.

Thankfully, they realised they couldn't get away with it here because they weren't a well known studio at that point.

It was only once they became successful with Persona that they started doing it over here.

... Wait did you mean indie as in independently developed, or indie as in /indie/.

I don't know what the difference is. It's why I hate the term indie. It's become a blanket statement for tons of stuff and it's dumb.

I finished Lost in the Rain last night.

It was a nice diversion but is this what "indie" games are like?

It didn't feel.....I don't know. Very substantial. Or Japanese, considering it who it was developed by.

It felt a bit Ico-lite, but I did see Ueda's name in the credits, so I guess that shouldn't be surprising.

Not a terrible game but nothing ground breaking either.

We will see what happens. Right now the insurance is dealing with it. I am filing a claim for the diminished value of my vehicle. I sent the repair bill to an appraiser and they said it lost probably about 9k in value if I were to trade it in today vs before I got hit. Then I will see what happens with my "pain and suffering". The insurance adjuster already said we will talk about that in a few weeks. He brought it up, not me. My medical bills are 3k right now, which they are paying for, but I need physical therapy. So we will see what they say.

They should be paying for your medical/auto bills without argument. Particularly the medical.

Sorry to hear you're in pain.

I (technically my parents) found an apartment for the fall today. It's the top floor of a house - 800-900 square feet, hardwood floors and laundry in the building! (Because it *sucks* hauling your laundry to a laundromat). Plus the utilities are included, which sealed the deal).

I'm starting to get really excited to get out of Korea.

Been watching Frasier at work....because I pretty much have nothing else to do.

It holds up well. I'd forgotten how much of a British farce the show sometimes turns into.

Only three more seasons to go!

12  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Defining RPGs on: July 13, 2014, 11:36:46 PM
"In western RPGs, we see greater emphasis on writing, story-telling, character development and creating "believable" fantasy worlds. "

I disagree with this completely.

GTAV - Didn't play this today but I just wanted to note that the original music in the game -- the minimalist electronic ambient stuff especially? -- is really lovely.

I agree. Unfortunately, the licensed soundtrack is probably the weakest they've ever had in a GTA game.

It was really disappointing.

I found a disc version of "Rain" this weekend and picked it up.

It's a neat little game though I wouldn't say the puzzles are super taxing.

Remember when the future looked like this:

?

Reminds me of Reboot.

I used to love the future.

So....what's the timeline for the Ar games? Is this is the most recent?

I only have the original Ar Tonelico for the PS2.
