Don't use logic with Lard, apparently it invalidates his reasons.

Wow, someone's got their panties in a twist over this game. A game that Squeenix has royally bungled at this point.

And Rob - do you honestly think Square isn't going to charge full price for this, especially since they're splitting it up as well?

We remember that feeling of awe when we first experienced FF7 almost 20 years ago.  And I would love to see a new generation of gamers feel that same awe.  But in order to do that, it needs to evolve like a pokemon.  And I think about the example of Metroid Prime.  That game completely redefined Metroid and it was really good.

But it also wasn't a remake of an existing game.

The problem with FF7 is that everyone is still stuck in this mentality of last gen where Japan has to appeal to western gamers.

And how did that turn out for the genre? It turned out shit.

I don't want to play FF 7 Drake's Fortune. I don't want to play FF 7 Skyrim. I don't want to play FF 7 Ghost Babel. I don't want to play FF 7 Lost Planet.

It's this mentality of trying to please everyone, which you're never going to do, instead of saying "Hey this was awesome back then, and it's still awesome now".

All they had to do was give us a decent translation, a choice of remixed or old soundtracks, some good voice acting and I think the majority of people would have been happy. People weren't asking for very much and Square still managed to fuck it up.

And as an aside, given that it will probably 3 discs, and amazon.ca has the first disc listed at $80 (closer to $90 with tax in Canada), there is *no fucking way* I am paying $270 for FF7. That is downright laughable.

You not accepting valid reasons doesn't making them invalid.

You're just ready to make excuses for every stupid decision done by Square about the game.

I've had bowel movements with more development time than FFVII at this point.

Given that the first disc is already done, I highly doubt that.

I dunno man I think i'd recognize Cloud's stupidly spikey head even if Picasso painted it.

Fair enough - amended

And if they're going to make the game's story/mechanics so different as to be unrecognisable, what's the point?

I mean, given what disnazi is like with Star Wars, it's pretty unlikely we're going to get a character named Biggs even.

I agree a 3DS remake probably would have been better, but given Square's propensity for pomposity, that was never going to happen.

Jesus christ. Nobody is naysaying "just to be cool".

People are pissed off because instead of being an RPG, it's now an action game with RPG *elements* just like every other fucking game nowadays.

They thought they were getting the full game - now they are being charged full price for each disc, which is completely exploitative and it's exactly why Square didn't announce the game was episodic when it was revealed.

And if they're going to make the game so different as to be unrecognisable, then what the fuck is the point of remaking the game in the first place?

I'd rather just have something new than some frankenstein of a game calling itself a remake.

Calling you contrarian is not disrespectful.

You came on after I made a post about how the game should be turn based and literally said "I hope the game is changed a ton!"

Why? Just to be contrarian. And to start an argument.

You want people to be respectful, try leading by example.

And you'd have a low charisma stat.
55  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake on: January 01, 2016, 06:55:40 PM
No, I'm not "just wrong". You just like to be deliberately contrarian, particularly when it's something I post.

It would sell to people our age, sure.  But our niche may not exactly push the kind of numbers that a mainstream demographic would in order for the game to recoup its costs; and we're not the mainstream demographic.

The mainstream crowd (especially the teenage mainstream crowd) outnumbers us and they have more time to play games (because their spare time isn't spend adulting) and more disposable income (since they're not budgeting adult expenses like mortgages).

You're acting like this is going to be marketed toward the mainstream, COD crowd. It's not and it was never going to be.
There's this idea that people are too stupid or ADD riddled to take 5 seconds and take a turn in a fight, and it's complete and utter bullshit.

Persona is completely turn based and that's huge in NA. This idea that JRPGs *have* to be action based now is is a misconception at best but more likely a straight up lie.
57  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake on: January 01, 2016, 05:17:20 PM
I agree that in the gaming business (and it is that- a business) traditional turn-based will not translate to big sales or mainstream success.

Pretty silly to say the FF7 remake wouldn't sell if it were turn based. Of course it would.

God, the amount of pessimism surrounding this game is sickening. 5 years ago, everyone and I mean EVERYONE would have wet their pants over this news. Nowadays it's just cool o hate on shit we like. Seriously, I can't fathom how people are having anything negative to say about this game that is in it's infantile stages of development. I shouldn't be surprised though, seeing as it's the norm for people who are content and happy to simply be happy and not say anything, but those who want to be negative can't shut the fuck up out about how it's a terror and an abomination and a travesty before it's even a fucking game. I get that we can all have opinions, but for fucks sake how about waiting til we have something more than spoken ideas and a pretty set of cinematic trailers to actually have a basis for an opinion?

Bullshit.

They've confirmed it's not turnbased and something that looks more like FF13's battle system - which was their least popular entry in the series. Now they're basically turning it into FF 13-4 instead of actual turn based combat, which it should be.

Then people were pissed off because Square clearly knew it was going to be episodic when the game was announced but didn't say anything. They let everyone get all excited and then said "Oh by the way, you're only getting chunks of it at a time", which is a ridiculous way to announce it.

Now they're talking about changing content because things are "more sensitive" now, so it looks like we're going to get content chopped out of the game, or at least altered til it's unrecognisable.

At this point, I'd rather not have it. The entire thing has been a giant clusterfuck and I'd rather they focus on the Tokyo RPG Factory games, and polishing FFXV to make sure it doesn't suck.

What's the point of having a remake of a game if the game is unrecognisable to the original?

It's confirmed for this year.
