46  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on: March 12, 2016, 08:03:59 AM

First bullet from XSeed peep.
(I'm guessing the "we tried but can't, long story" is basically hand waiving for money/support for an older game).  It took about 4 years to get the second game here, they're not exactly selling super well, so I can't in good conscious be upset about this even though my FC and SC were handheld.  I'm sure there's someone willing to fight the fight, but it ain't me.

I guess to me, it would have made more sense to say after the first one, "Sales don't support it, it isn't viable for us".

Two out of the three, just looks lame. They should have either abandoned it after the first one or done all three as a last hurrah for the Vita.

As for the bullet points, it's the same vague bullshit as every other time. If they were honest they'd stop trying to smokescreen it every time.

Then why bother to release the second one for psp but not the third?

That is just retarded.

How nice of them to force me to buy the first two games over again if I want to carry my save over to the third game.

Pretty dick move.

Cool, thanks.

Always online, but apparently the game is so huge that the devs estimate your chances of running into another player is minimal.

I guess I should have asked whether I require an internet connection to play it, ala Diablo 3.

Cause I will not be buying it no matter how good it is, if that is the case.

My question is it going to be always online or with there be an offline/solo mode as well?

lol, "why is there all of this extra content that I don't want to use and won't affect my experience negatively at all?!" THIS GAME SUCKS!

on a related note: It would be interesting to hear how many of those people who didn't enjoy CC for all of the extraneous characters did or didn't enjoy Suikoden.

Even as a CC fan, I'll admit Suikoden does a much better job with its cast. It generally gives each one a side story or least a scene to show a bit of personality of each character.

I am aware of, and looking forward to Disaster Report 4. I have both DR 1 and Raw Danger.

I'm missing Disaster Report 3 on the PSP, but I'm hoping to remedy that this year.

Basically, it's Disaster Report but instead of a disaster, you're trying to survive an Ultraman fight or a Godzilla attack.

All of my moneys!
57  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Is your favorite RPG in one of the first five you tried? on: February 18, 2016, 06:04:07 AM
Not in the first 5 I tried, but in the first 5 JRPGs I tried - Suikoden 2.
58  Media / General Games / Re: Our Favorite Horror Games on: February 17, 2016, 09:26:45 AM
Wasn't a launch title but was released six months after the PS2.

They're still not great for a PS2 game, but it's not really a game you buy for the graphics.
59  Media / General Games / Re: Games so good you got sad when it was over on: February 16, 2016, 10:42:03 PM
Suikoden 1 and 2 come to mind. Though the endings was pretty satisfying.

These were my first picks as well, along with Suiko 3. Poor

It wasn't universally liked, but I was a fan of a game called Shadow of Destiny (Shadow of Memories in Japan).  In it, you travel through time trying to prevent your own murder and find out who keeps trying to kill you.

The graphics are bland for a PS2 game.

The soundtrack is generally terribly and sounds like it's trying to ape the worst part of the "More" soundtrack by Pink Floyd

And the voice acting is weak.

The concept is really cool and the game as a whole is way better than the sum of its parts. It's definitely worth a play through once. It's not very long and is pretty cheap, especially on PSP.

Has anyone played any of the Fatal Frame games? I noticed no one has mentioned them (I've never played any of them myself, but want to). They have a reputation for being pretty danged spooky. Some would say among the best of the genre.

They're creepy as hell. I had to turn the lights on while playing the first one which I never have to do, even for Silent Hill. The best version of Fatal Frame 2 is on the OG Xbox, if you can find it.

Eternal Darkness isn't scary in the way that Fatal Frame is, but it creates a great atmosphere, the voice acting really, really adds to the game and the sanity effects are really cool. I would consider it a must play if you're a horror fan.

Kuon is okay, but not worth $80. Had no idea it was worth that much. Rule of Rose, on the other hand, is worth the price. Even with the gimpy gameplay, I really enjoyed it.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is Cursed Mountain. It's a Wii game, so the graphics aren't HD etc. but the atmosphere is amazing. It's more like Eternal Darkness in that's it's creepy and not scary. It's slower paced and not really action based, i.e. it's more Silent Hill than Resident Evil 2. However, it's insanely cheap.

Oh, and if you like Dead Space, get Dead Space Extraction. It's a surprisingly fun horror FPS for the Wii.
