4726  Media / Single-Player RPGs / FFv13 put on hold... on: June 19, 2008, 11:46:27 AM
Now they're saying it's *not* on hold.

There's a story on Kotaku saying guys are just running across the hall when needed to help out and both are on schedule.

Well Machine Head was live, so hopefully the studio version will be better.

Yeah I know there's been a bunch, but this is being released with the July issue of Kerrang and is called Maiden Heaven.

So far, the two covers confirmed are

Machine Head - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Dream Theater - To Tame A Land (!)

Sounds like an interesting start at least. Rest of the track listing will apparantly be revealed next week.

Thought a few would be interested in this.

Artwork is good too.

Lets see how it does.  New Squeenix titles tend to be a hit or a miss.

Isn't that the same for every title?

My only question is why does the Scarecrow look like he's in a Mariachi band?
4731  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Last King Of Africa - DS Adventure game on: June 18, 2008, 03:31:06 PM
One of the world's best PC adventure game creators is going handheld, as Focus Home Interactive and White Birds announce Benoît Sokal's Last King Of Africa for the Nintendo DS. While Sokal is probably best known for Syberia and Syberia 2, The Last King of Africa is a remake of the Ubisoft-published title Paradise, which tells the story of Ann Smith, the daughter of the king of a fictional African country who loses her memory in a plane crash en route to her seriously ill father's side.

The game has been reworked to take advantage of the DS's touch and microphone capabilities to solve puzzles, while the story has received tweaking to make it more coherent and enjoyable. Focus has also stripped the 3D action sequences from the game, making for a more traditional point and click adventure. Look for The Last King of Africa to be released to adventure-hungry portable gamers everywhere late this year.

Sounds interesting, I'm intrigued.

It's RTD's last series, you never know.

I was somewhat excited until I found out it was a 360 timed exclusive. Not cool.

How long's the wait?

And Eusis is right, it doesn't seem like they're just dicking around on this. I'd rather they get it right then get another Orange Box.
4734  The Rest / General Discussions / TVersity - Media Streaming Program for game consoles on: June 17, 2008, 06:14:23 PM

So could you stream, let's say, a PAL region movie DVD from your PC to your PS3 and watch it on the telly?

This is somewhat interesting as a lot of our DVDs (and most of our Star Trek box sets...) are all from the UK.

hm
I don't know.
I'll say theoretically yes, but I can't be certain about that.
What you might have to do is rip it to an avi file, and put it on your computer first, but I'm guessing.

Edit - In going back and actually checking, I'm going to stay with theoretically yes. There is an option to submit a file from your dvd player, so I don't see why not. (You have to submit files for it to encode and stream).

It shouldn't be any different than playing a regular .avi file.

But I'm not sure.

It's funny, because books like Alice In Wonderland and Wizard of Oz seem fairly obvious for RPG conversion, yet I've never really thought about it until this came up.

Looks interesting.

Strange Brew

What a *great* movie.
4737  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Decent and difficult PS 1/2 rpg on: June 17, 2008, 07:26:23 AM
Are there any J-RPGs, as a rule, that are punishingly difficult? The only ones I can think of would be the Atlus games. And it's not that those are difficult, it's just knowing which spell to use at which time.

J-RPGs on the whole aren't *overly* difficult, it's just that there's so much level grinding involved.

Yeah, I was disappointed to hear about the localisation.

Especially in this day and age.
4739  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Decent and difficult PS 1/2 rpg on: June 17, 2008, 06:50:20 AM
I would say get Xenosaga I, since people seem to be putting it forth as a suggestion.

It's not a cakewalk, but I didn't find it punishing either, at least in comparison to Atlus games.

Oh and I second the Atlus recommendations, especially since it sounds like they're getting easier to find.
4740  The Rest / General Discussions / TVersity - Media Streaming Program for game consoles on: June 17, 2008, 03:10:32 AM
Has anyone heard of this?

While doing my wireless PS3 stuff tonight, my friend told me about a program he uses called TVersity.

It streams audio and video (and internet audio and video) from your computer onto your console - with the option to download if you want - wirelessly.

I've got it streaming the entire series of Robotech off of my computer right now and it's working without a hitch.

And it's *Free*.

The only drawback to the program is it doesn't really have a good user's manual, and you have to blunder around in the dark a bit to get it going.

Once you install the program though and set it to the device you want, you're golden. There's no software required for the console to use and everything is streaming.

It's a really cool program.

Recommended if you download a lot of TV shows/movies/anime and you want to be able to relax in your living room.

I'm using it for my PS3. It's also listed (in the menu) as working for PSP, Wii(!), 360, Iphone and several other devices.
