What's the other Squeenix RPG that's coming out for both platforms? For some reason, I thought IU was multi-platform.

4938  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Torchwood/Dr. Who discussion on: May 20, 2008, 07:34:32 PM

Russell T Davies is to step down as executive producer of Doctor Who, the BBC has announced.

Davies is credited with breathing new life into the show which he brought back to television screens in 2005.

Bafta-winning writer Steven Moffat will succeed Davies as lead writer and executive producer of the fifth series of Doctor Who.

Moffat said that the whole of his career had been "a secret plan to get this job".

"As lead writer and executive producer, he has overseen the creative direction and detail of the 21st century re-launch of Doctor Who and we are delighted to have his continued presence on the specials over the next 18 months," she added.

Davies will remain in charge of four specials to be shown in 2009.

The fifth series, with Moffat at the helm, is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One in Spring 2010.

Moffat has already written some of the most memorable Doctor Who episodes of recent times, including The Girl in the Fireplace and The Empty Child.

Earlier this month, he picked up the best writer Bafta for the Blink episode of series three which featured terrifying weeping angels.

Moffat said: "I applied before but I got knocked back 'cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven.

"Anyway, I'm glad the BBC has finally seen the light and it's a huge honour to be following Russell into the best - and the toughest - job in television.

"I say toughest 'cos Russell's at my window right now, pointing and laughing."

Ghostbusters for NES ruined it all for me. I won't play the new one - I'll have flashbacks.

Now you're just being silly.

Am I the only one who's excited for this game?

I'm curious: how many RPGs, or video games in general, actually, have dealt with homosexuality? In particular, how many have included gay characters?

In Persona 3, there's a character in the hallway outside of your classroom that *looks* like a girl (I'm not positive but I think it is) that has a crush on Mitsuru. It's not a main character of the game, and I don't know if it ever gets resolved (not finished the game yet), but it's relevant to the discussion.

As I see, you still do a remarkable job at completely ignoring the site that happens to be connected to these boards :P.

Yeah, well....admittedly, I tend to skip the news page and go straight to the forums usually.

I'm just trying to encourage conversation! :P

Hacking and slashing w/ friends can be fun, but alone, I find it a little repetitive.

But I <3 hacking & slashing!
For ages I thought <3 was the icon for fisting.

More news:

Finally, more information on Phantasy Star Portable has surfaced. The biggest reveal involves the ability to import characters from Phantasy Star Universe -- the console game that PSP is based on. Players of the PS2 and PC versions of Phantasy Star Universe may import their characters and carry over their character's name and personal data as well as currently equipped cloths and parts. Level, however, will be capped at level 20 and spare equipment, special items, etc. will not be carried over. Those with a 360 PSU will not be able to import any data at all.

Also, the game has an all-new story mode with new missions. A four player co-op mode through an ad hoc connection will also be included. Phantasy Star Portable is currently set for release in Japan on July 31. A North American release has yet to be announced.
4946  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Infinite Line - DS RPG on: May 15, 2008, 03:57:16 PM
From Joystiq:

Infinite Line director Hifumi Kouno of Nudemaker showed up at last night's Platinum Games event (fully clothed, to our surprise) to debut the studio's forthcoming sci-fi RPG for DS. The game is built around two key concepts: Players command (1) a "highly-customizable" spaceship through (2) a "large and expansive" world that encompasses two galaxies. The team has prepared over 150 ship models, as well as more than 150 potential crew members that can be stationed around the ships. The insides of the crafts are modular, so players can place the bridges, engineering rooms, fire control rooms, etc. as they see fit.

As per The Space Opera Mandate® of 1941, Infinite Line will explore "what it means to be human" in this touching adventure around the stars. Nudemaker plans to show off some actual screenshots -- that will apparently "blow you away" -- in the near future.

The geography of the world has apparently changed dramatically overnight!!!
