Fact - Rose and Jackie are 1,000,000 times more annoying than Donna.

The Fountain - Awesome, awesome movie. It's really beautiful to watch, and I'd definitely like to watch it again with greater concentration.

I watched it on mushrooms the first time I went to see it.

As for me? The classic "Predator".

The Wicker Man - with Nicholas Cage.

Had to watch it once out of morbid curiosity.

(I actually didn't mind Episode III of the prequels)

4955  Media / Single-Player RPGs / what is your addition to the console rpg formula? on: April 06, 2008, 12:17:26 PM
Unless the gameplay is fundamentally broken, I'm much more inclined to plow through an RPG with a good story/soundtrack but poor gameplay.

Knowing that I'm inevitably going to be doing level grinding and such, I'm far more inclined to do it for a payoff I feel is worth it rather than a generic story I'm barely interested in.

That said, I didn't finish Xenosaga II because the gameplay *really* sucked.

Anyone besides me seen the first episode of the new Doctor Who series yet?

But the promise of sci-fi, futuristic stuff, and the exploration of space has always been in Star Ocean games, and all of them (1, 2, and 3) have blue-balled us on this and stuck us on backwater bumfuck planets for the entire game.  I hope Star Ocean 4 makes good on its promise of interstellar travel and more sci-fi futuristic stuff.

I have *not* played SO3 yet. I know about the giant spoiler.

I thought after *the giant spoiler* you switched to a more modern planet.

Lady In The Water is *astoundingly* awful.

As for me - Mystery Men. Forgot how good it was.

Come on, you know nothing's going to happen.

And no one is playing Portal?

Shadow of the Colossus is a Greatest Hit title, he needs to dig deeper for his niche games.

Good point, hadn't thought about that.

"And yet here's the rub. The gaming world isn't holding up its end of the bargain. Fans (and publishers, to some extent) are still resisting Hollywood with territorial reluctance, thinking that if they give away a game's rights to a studio, Hollywood will inevitably "piss all over our childhood."

Because they do - again and again. (See Dragonball Z movie)

"Part of this is because there's been a past pattern. That's fair. But it's also because the game community fundamentally believes filmmakers just don't understand why games are so great, and if they would only directly and literally translate a game to film, it would succeed beyond all expectations."

No, it's because idiot executives come in and change things to try and appeal to the broadest audience possible, to make the most money, whether it makes sense in regards to the movie or not.

"Frankly, in the case of most games, this is just not true. We all need to take a long look in the mirror and realize that there are very few mainstream game franchises that could stand next to the best comics of the 1980's, or the best movies ever. And yes, Shadow of the Colossus and Portal are hands-down better than most anything out there, but no one is playing those games. What is the mainstream audience playing? Halo 3. "

And the ones that *aren't* mainstream? (Like SMT?)

And no one is playing Portal?

What the hell is this idiot smoking?

That type of freedom, not really.

More planets hell yes, particularly hi-tech ones and more galaxy spanning adventure (this would obviously be easier and more likely if they do more hi-tech planets/locations anyway).

So you'd rather just go from planet to planet in a straight line?

Meh.

I had read the book ages ago and was looking forward to the movie.

Went to see it with a group of friends and I was the only one who liked it.

My friend from New Zealand was watching De Niro and just kept saying "That's just not right" through every scene De Niro was in.
4965  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Sam & Max officially announced for Wii on: April 05, 2008, 01:25:31 PM
Between Sam & Max and Zack & Wiki , along with No More Heroes and a new Trauma Center game, I'm almost convinced to buy a Wii.
