I'd be largely doubtful of such a notion. There's few other RPG series' with the cult following Suikoden has, the only ones I can think of being Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, and potentially Sakura Taisen or Shin Megami Tensei. It may not be a system seller overall, but it can swing a few buyers here and there.

The key word being cult. Not a big seller. DQ and FF are definitely MASS market titles with broad appeal. Nothing wrong with that, I like them too, but they're certainly not cult titles like you're describing. Those games are system sellers.

Shin Megami Tensei is a good example of a cult title though, as I would say maybe Disgaea might be another one. A Suikoden title will be a system seller for me, whichever it's on, if I don't have it. I don't think Suikoden fans are a majority of gamers though.
4982  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Is Enchanted Arms worth picking up for $25? on: January 24, 2008, 02:20:43 AM
Enchanted Arms seemed to get fairly lukewarm reviews and (from what I remember) the same reaction on the board.

I saw a copy at EB Games tonight while I was browsing for $24.99.
They also gave me a discount card when I had bought a bunch of used games along with a gift card for my brother in law, so with the used discount,  it'd end up being less than $25 total.

I'm going back overseas for six months to teach and then likely coming back in the fall for school. I'm not taking my PS3 with me, because it would be a pain in the ass. Is it worth picking up EA now, or is it likely going to be the kind of game that I always seem to find kicking around used, thus no rush to purchase it?

My take on the FF themes:
FF12 - Suikoden

What?

I wasn't trying to start a flamewar with "Wii is suxxors!".

Leyviur summed exactly what I was thinking when I didn't express it very well - thanks.

There's also the fact that third party games don't seem to be doing well on the Wii - but that's traditionally what happens on Nintendo systems. (Zack and Wiki here and No More Heroes in Japan)

I'd rather see it on PS2 than Wii for the simple fact that S6 on the Wii could be the death knell for the series.

I thought the bug actually stopped the companions from helping you during battles?

Lard, you're getting about as obnoxious as PKProductions in your anti-Wii rants... just to give you a perspective. Maybe not as assaholic, but obnoixous.

Granted, that was a discussion about bringing it to the DS, rather than the Wii, but I feel the same about either. Consider it dropped.

Final Fantasy XIII demo planned
Wednesday 23-Jan-2008 8:29 AM ...to give you a taster of the new battle system
1 Comments
Square Enix promises that "2008 will be the year" for new info (and maybe the release?) of the latest in its epic RPG series, Final Fantasy XIII, as it reveals plans to release a demo, according to snippets of info from Japanese Famitsu and Dengeki magazines.

Not even a rough date was given for the demo, only that it main objective will be to give fans a hands-on with the new battle system.

The only hint of the full game's release was the quote: "I wonder when we'll be able to sleep...". Eh? We plan to have a kip tonight - is that when it's coming out?

Because we know you FF fans are keen on the smallest of details, here's a few more tid-bits plucked from the translations of the Japanese mags, courtesy of FF-XIII.net. -

-Nomura: "2008 will be the year. There will be tons of news bits, info on characters and summons, and an unexpected connection between the keywords Cocoon and Farushi.
- We're aiming for a demo to give players a hands on on the battle system.
- FF13's theme: determination.
- Farushi: Their existence surpasses humans.
- Rushi: Those chosen by Farushi to carry out a mission. The pigtail girl is a Rushi. Farushi is not the Crystal.
- Mr. 33cm is also a Rushi.
- This time summons are in digital form.
- A new monster that looks like a cross between a turtle and elephant.
- The red thing on Carbuncle's head is a ruby.
- Hint on release date: "I wonder when we'll be able to sleep..."

There's a bug in the PSP version apparantly.

Eusis - cut him some slack, he just joined.
4992  The Rest / General Discussions / Physical copy or DL copy? on: January 22, 2008, 09:31:23 PM
Was thinking about this with the release of Wild Arms on PSN.

If, as it seems to be, the PSN is going to have DLC featuring old PS1 games, would you be happy to buy them or do you prefer having a physical copy?

If, for example, games like Lunar and/or Suikoden OR previously unreleased games (like Popolocrois) came out for a reasonable price, would you be happy to DL them or do you prefer a physical copy?

And, uhhh, I kinda got bored with SuikV around 20 hours too.

Funny - that's about when it starts to really pick up.

On second thought, I'd rather have Gadwin.
