5086  Media / Brush and Quill / Book Thread Continued on: January 14, 2008, 10:01:35 PM
Picked up AHistory on the weekend.

It's a Doctor Who reference book(!) that attempts to slot all the TV, book, audio and comic stories into one consistent history.

Interesting read.

While Mass Effect's surely awesome (I haven't played enough to fairly say, really) it's pretty nice to see P3 get some recognition.

Yeah. I've been saving P3 for when I went back to Korea, but I'm tempted to start it now. Nice to see Hotel Dusk get some love too. I hope this site keeps covering text adventure games even though they aren't strictly RPGs.

Granted I will never be ok playing some sick evil SOB, but there are few if any main characters as such so *shrug*.

That's one of the reasons I couldn't stand FF8. I hated playing as Squall because he was such a dick.

Interesting article on the history of the site.
Reading about sites that have been around since the "start" of internet is interesting.

Six years later and no compromise with Vic Ireland huh?

Well, seeing as I'm getting old and grumpy, I too tend to favour RPGs that don't feature cutesy teens that go out and save the world.

I'm far past that stage.

The character doesn't have to be "like me" as you say, but a more complex character is a more interesting one to play.
5094  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Worst Hero & Villain on: January 09, 2008, 01:55:12 AM
Worst hero - Squall.
Worst villain - The chick from Final Fantasy 8.
I wanted to punch them in the face.
Squall makes Tidus look like a grown up.

Barrett is my favorite RPG party member ever. Bar-none.

Also Viktor and Flik from Suikoden.

I'd say Vivi, Viktor and Flik, Gadwin (Grandia), Bart (Xenogears), Roger Bacon (Shadow Hearts)

Anyone watch Ron Paul on Leno yesterday?

Good interview.
5099  Media / Single-Player RPGs / favorite hero and boss from any game on: January 08, 2008, 07:19:31 PM
Is this favourite hero and boss or favourite hero and villain?

I swear we just had a favourite villain topic a couple of months ago.

Favourite boss?

The giant mouth in Folklore. Not a particularly hard boss, but looks really rad.

I haven't been to the cinema much this year, but I loved Ratatouille, The Bourne Ultimatum and The Darjeeling Ltd.

I watched Ratatouille on the plane home and I really enjoyed it. I'm kind of iffy on Pixar movies but it was nice to see them to a kind of unusual plot.
