TANGENT: Re: emo. I understand the emo label as it fits in modern day colloquia, but I don't quite understand it. I mean, all music is emotional wither it expresses joy, sadness, anger, disillusionment, disgust, whatever.
Either way, A lot of hate for Tidus in this thread. That's fine and dandy since I can see how he wouldn't be the most likeable protagonist to everyone (he is a jock after all), but I liked him. I liked his youthful exuberance. It was with him and only with him that Yuna could let go and for a few fleeting moments just be a regular, fun-loving teenage girl and not this holy emissary with a herculean burden on her shoulders. I loved the laughing scene. I thought it was well acted.
Actually, I agree with all of that. Funny you call Tidus a jock, because I would've labelled Waka the jock of the group. But none of them had that kind of jock arrogance that would put anything down that they didn't understand. (Well maybe except Waka and Riku)
Overall I preferred Tidus wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than Squall. Squall just reminds me of too many people I went to high school with who were way too self conscious about how terrible life was and how bad everything was for them and made sure everyone knew it.
Funnily enough, I had a friend kind of like Tidus as well, a bit of a jock but all around nice guy - without the annoying laugh. I've never actually pinpointed it til now, but that may be why I reacted the way I did to both characters.
I still don't get Fugazi being emo but it's not important.
