what in god's name are you talking about?

1. Before the boss battle in Warcadia, you do NOT have to fight those guys. You can run clear past them. In fact, I would recommend you do that since...

2. They're not that hard. I cleared them out, and I think I only had to do the boss battle in Warcadia twice. Who are you on as now, Ellen or Keats? If Keats, make sure you have his big boost/rage energy ready to go for the boss. If Ellen ... well ... hope you're good with the guard button.

I was playing as Ellen when I was so frustrated. It's not that they're particularly hard, it's just irritating because you are constantly getting hit when there are more than two creatures on the screen and you're trying to capture one. It's inevitable.

My apologies that you're bad at this game. You should be taking the time to check the picture guide book, learn the elemental attributes of the monsters you're pulling out, and if that's too much for you, just check on gamefaqs real quick to see what it takes to clear the boss in Warcadia.

I've cleared the boss. I'm not bad at the game. It's just that the game can be quite cheap if there are more than a couple of monsters on the screen.

Well, there was supposed to be news on SO4 at TGS, but we got squat.

X months later and we still have nothing.  I'm starting to think that the game is going to get a big CANCELLED soon.

I mean, Jesus, how long does it take to choose where a game is going?  It has very few choices of systems to play on...

wouldn't be surprised to see it on DS.

Both Death Breath CDs

Oh hell yes.

I only wish Edge of Sanity were putting out more CDs.

I have really mixed feelings about it.

Love the art, voice acting, music and story.

I like the way they implemented the SixAxis.

I *really* am starting to hate battles.

The problem is, and it's happened twice now, that right after you get to the save point before the boss, you are forced to run through a room and battle.

It's not just a little battle either. Both times I have been overwhelmed by about 15 creatures or so - some small, some big.

There are so many that while you're trying to capture the ones you've hit, other ones just walk right up to you and pound the shit out of you because you're completely helpless while you're capturing creatures.

Some of the larger creatures force you to perform certain actions with the controller before you can capture them. For example, I'm on Chapter 3 and I have to move the controller side to side and get the creature's soul standing perfectly straight, instead of leaning to one side.

While the creature's soul is standing upright, it sucks out it's lifeforce. Once it's life force is gone, you can capture it.

Problem is that I am repeatedly getting the shit kicked out of me by the horde of other creatures in the area with me.

And if I get hit? The creature's life force goes back to full and I have to start the process all over again.

Oh - did I mention there's *no* way of healing yourself?

It's extremely, extremely frustrating and I'm on the verge of giving up. I can't remember the last time I died so frequently in an RPG. To be fair, it's usually with the girl, Ellen, but there's the other problem. The game just seems really unbalanced. I'm really starting to hate playing with Ellen, even though her story is more interesting.

Definitely a disappointment for me. Should've bought Assassin's Creed.

i've gone from loving this week game to fucking despising it. warcadia is shitty and full of cheap assholes. EVERY time i get beaten by the boss, i have to go back through a screen full of 1500 of the fuckers, only to be klled by the boss. repeat ad nauseum. can't remember a bigger disappointment in recent memory.

I'm definitely digging it.

I can deal with the fixed camera, it's an RPG staple, and it doesn't bug me that much.

The crappy battle music on the other hand.....

So far though, that's my only real complaint.

And yeah - voice acting is excellent.

So, I'm back in Canada for holidays (horrendous trip home and shitty weather!), and have my PS3 set up and running.

I downloaded the Folklore demo because I was curious and really dug it.

Liked the music, mechanics seemed interesting and it's by (if I remember correctly) the guy who originally started Shin Megami Tensei (or is associated with it.)

Went to the store today and picked it up, along with Silent Hill Origins and Dementium The Ward. (New game for each system!)

I don't remember a big thread about it on here. Anyone else played it? Enjoy it?

Meh. Which is pretty much what I think of the games.
5140  The Rest / General Discussions / Reviewer fired over Kane & Lynch review...? on: November 30, 2007, 01:39:29 PM
I've never liked GS's reviews. I think they've always done a terrible job, overall.

I stopped reading closely after the "Devil May Cry 3 is too hard" review.

That said, I actually did agree with his Twilight Princess review (his comments about the music were spot on) and the idea that this kind of thing is happening is really troubling.

And people wonder why gaming journalism is taken seriously.

Edit - Penny-Arcade did a commentary.

I really liked Hotel Dusk for the DS. Great graphic adventure.

SV-Basically built on the foundation of II means if you like two you'll love it. For the same reason though, relying so strongly on imitation it can't surpass what it's imitating.

I thought it imitated a little too much.
5144  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Suikoden Favorites on: November 26, 2007, 08:34:10 AM
I've played them all (including both the Suikogaidens with walkthroughs)

Here's how I'd rank them (in order of favourites)

Maybe I'll give Suiko 5 another playthrough while I'm home at Xmas. I liked it, but I thought it relied too much on nostalgia, personally.

I still think Suikoden 3 is underrated, and thought the Trinity Sight system was brilliant. It's just too bad about the battle system. The first three games really play out as a trilogy, and they are my favourite RPGs, period.

"The battle system was also some sort of proto-breath of fire thing that never did anything for me."

And *please* lose the coloured text.

After going to see the Queen a few months ago, I wasn't quite ready for another docu-drama about a Queen.

Not bad for a historical film, but certainly could have been watched on TV.
