As for FFXIII and FFXIII Versus, what I see happening is how some games allow you to choose a different character to experience the story from; what FFXIII seems to be doing is giving a separate game to each character, though, the stories will be set so many years apart from each other.

I'll have no issue with this as long as the stories are interesting.

I'm hoping that in planning them together, they'll have a cohesiveness that the FF7 project does not.

Which then begs the question, is a designer color worth the extra hundred bucks in import fees?  For some people it is, for me it isn't since there's no regional lockout on the PSP hardware for games.  But I believe US PSPs have regional lockout for UMDs so you can't play a Japanese UMD on a US PSP.  So I guess if someone is an avid watcher of Japanese movies on UMD, then the extra money spent on an import PSP may be worth it.

Are you you talking about games or movies?

I have a Japanese PSP (phat) and it plays either region just fine. (Games)

Your point about Square's random games does make me nostalgic for the PS1 era. You're right. There's no reason they can't be more experimental on either handheld. Port some Japan only shit at least.

Yeah, they do. Final Fantasy XIII certainly looks good, but I'm just not digging the whole "Fabula Nova Crystallis" project. Maybe it's just Square's business style that I don't like...I'm not sure. I mean, with FNC, it seems like they're milking a game that doesn't even exist yet.

Maybe I'll change my mind if I get to play a demo or something, but it just seems like they're stretching to thin and putting all their eggs in one basket with this one.

How do you mean?
I'm still actually more interested in Versus, just for the fact I'm hoping the story will be a bit darker.

Saw Terminator 3 tonight and honestly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  Still would have prefered a little less tits and ass from my antagonist, but it wasn't nearly as terrible as Dead or Alive, my new gauge for horrible films.

Have to agree with you. DOA is possibly the worst film of this decade.

Final Fantasy?

Not much point in turning this into a "which console is best" thread.

I just grabbed my PS3 because I wanted the BC, the 60 gigs were being discontinued, and I had the extra cash as well as being able to get my parents to chip in for my birthday.

I'm holding out on a 360 until next summer when I hear the newest (and hopefully more reliable) models of the system are coming out.

Nothing against the 360 - great library, crappy hardware. Will be happy to get one when the issue is fixed.

I think the consensus is that you're bound to find something you like if you pick up a PSP.

Look through reviews on here and other sites like gamerankings to get an idea of what titles are out there which might interest you.

I picked up the Power Stone collection a couple of weeks ago and I've barely stopped playing it.

I've been surprised at the size of the manga sections in bookstores since I've  come back to Canada. I'm looking for some manga which is more....adult based.

For example, I've been reading a ton of Junji Ito stuff in the past month and would like to get a hold of some more horror based manga.

Any suggestions?

(And damn, I need to order the rest of the Suikoden III manga as well)

do PS3s and 360 run on non-HD sets?.
Yes they do. Lots of emphasis is put on the HD capability of the consoles but SD gamers can use it as well and depending on the game see some an improvement in image quality(Super sampling).  You can use a computer monitor instead for the 360.

The only game that I had a real problem with was Folklore - because it was hard to read the text. I hear that's common for SD and the 360 on some games as well though. (Like Dead Rising)

It's an SD vs HD problem primarily rather than console vs console problem.

I'll give it a whirl, thanks for the advice.

Does a new part of Tartarus only open up every month or does it just depend on how far you've gotten in the tower?

EDIT - I don't care what ANYONE says bad about Versus XIII. I'm all about that game.

I'm interested in Versus also. At least I'm interested in how they're going to juxtapose the two games.

Screens look great, especially like Ifrit's look. I have to agree, too little info on the games for now.

Borrowed World War Z from a friend of mine.

Pretty interesting take on a zombie apocalypse book. A few dull bits about the army but good overall.

About halfway through and I would recommend it.

The first six or seven issues were good....but it just degenerated into silliness at the end.

For anyone interested, the first episode of Persona is up on Youtube.

And I picked up issue two of Gyo yesterday by Junji Ito.

The premise is fantastic and bizarre...but weak, weak ending.

If you like horror, I'd say pick up Uzumaki or Museum Of Terror instead.

I just don't know whether I'm supposed to be clearing every floor or rushing to the top.

And with the points where you can go back and forth between the first floor and the most current tower level getting sparser and sparser (first it was every five floors - now it's every twenty!) I feel like I'm either:

a) rushing through, not levelling up and barely exploring - which I kind of thought was the purpose of the game

b) going up a couple of levels, fighting all the monsters, running out of SP, going back downstairs to refresh my stats, and starting all over again at the same floor I started at before. Which feels like I'm wasting time and retreading old ground because I'm doing the same floors over again.

And I don't know which is the right way of going about things.
