That is awesome, totally pre-ordering as well.

Hmm, though I wonder if they could do the same thing as Digital Devil Saga's LE and produce a box for the Trails in the Sky trilogy?

That would be very cool as one of the bonuses, the Trails in the Sky/Sora no Kiseki trilogy is what I'm really looking forwards to, though I'm looking forwards to Ys too.
17  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Totorie, Alchemist of Arland 2 announced for the PS3 on: March 27, 2010, 05:26:12 PM
Siliconera has posted a huge batch of new pics.  The game looks lovely.

http://www.siliconera.com/2010/03/26/first-atelier-totori-alchemist-of-arland-2-screens-are-spellbinding/

Thanks for the better copies of these pics, looks beautiful.  The upgrade to the character graphics looking much more like Kishida Mel's art is fantastic, and I actually like the improved but still simple charming backgrounds like in screen 1, or the snow in screen 8, or the overall view with the nice cloudy sky in pics 10, 20.  There are also some nice pictures, like this one, of the outside of some of the town buildings that look really nice too. The newly improved character models look really nice in battle too now in these pictures.

It wouldn't shock me if some who don't know the series might complain but overall look is nice and seeing the portraits and stuff in HD, and now the new character models that look a lot like the art give it plenty of PS3 gains IMO.
18  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Star Ocean 4 International coming to the PS3 on Feb. 2010 on: September 30, 2009, 11:42:54 PM
Well, though Tales and Star have similar combat engines, one thing I always preferred about Stars is the sci fi elements.  Granted they aren't as strong as they should be, but there are so few RPGs that aren't stuck in high fantasy or steam punk that it sticks (or stuck, if this is indeed the end this time) out.

I end this by once again lamenting the passing of the Xenosaga series for primarily that reason.

So freaking true, for both points.

Knowing Yoko Shimomura is in on it also has me very interested. Hope to see a vid on how gameplay works out soon.

Agreed, nice collection of staff working on this, looking forwards to learning more about it.

I really liked the pacing of the battle system from the latest two gameplay videos.

And I still really like the the character designs and industrial environments, looking forwards to this.
21  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: 3D Dot Game Heroes on: August 19, 2009, 04:51:27 PM
So this game is literally a 2D game in 3D?

I'm looking forwards to hearing more about this, the concept is really neat looking at the scan.

Should be fun.
22  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Which PS3 RPG Should I get? on: June 23, 2009, 10:33:58 PM
Like pretty much everyone's been saying, you can't go wrong with Valkyria Chronicles. It's one of the finest titles on the system. I'd also look into Disgaea 3.

My sentiments exactly.

When you're ready to move on among the other stuff already available, Eternal Sonata is a very good choice too, and as to the question of Cross Edge, I'd also add my opinion that it is indeed a surprisingly good game, not the best but good with a nice complex battle system and worth picking up if you've got the money and have atleast a couple of favorite characters from the casts of the other games featured among the large amount of characters.  Of course the more favorites you have in there the more you'll enjoy their interactions.
23  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Crimson Gem Saga. on: June 03, 2009, 01:41:54 PM
Kos-Mos: Our soundtracks head has not been able to find an OST for Crimson Gem Saga, and he's ace at finding stuff.  This leads me to believe that one may not have even been released.  Too bad, because the music is good.

Thanks for the info, I didn't think so.  Yeah, it's a shame it didn't get one.

The Atlus USA version as usual from them has a great translation, and there's a lot of fun dialogue with a nice English voice cast so far.  Loved Spinel and her voice actress right from the start lol.

Story spoiler for first section of the game (edited for multiple lines for a somewhat easier read in the code tag):
Code:
You first come across her being threatened by people she apparently left behind
to get arrested, easy to guess how that might have played out after this event lol.
She notices Killian coming along so she pretends to be in real trouble despite being rather
capable at combat in reality, convincing Killian she's helpless.  Once successfully
manipulated and provoked he proceeds to "save" her and then she promptly
[u]steals his wallet[/u] picking his pocket right there on the spot.  Her voice during the
scene was great and Killian's voiced line after she's already gone when he realizes she stole
it right after he thought he just saved her was a great introduction for their first meeting lol.

Good highly polished old-school RPG fun with fun characters (and artwork and character designs as others have said before) and their dialogue, and a nice soundtrack.

There hasn't been a separate soundtrack released for this game even in Japan so far, right?
25  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atlus announces Demon's Souls for America on: May 20, 2009, 03:39:39 PM
Awesome, heard so much good stuff about this game and it'll be kinda nice to have something as ultra challenging as this game reportedly is for a change.

I'll definitely support Atlus bringing this unique game over as I've kept toying with the idea of importing it.

Famitsu's got a whole bunch of new screens.  It looks surprisingly solid in my opinion for Atelier in 3D as I certainly didn't expect it to look this good when they decided to go 3D, especially the characters and town.  I think it retains it's wonderful charm with the nice cell-shading style and coloring they've pulled off on the 3D character models which I think captured the art quite nicely.

Ah, thanks for the refresher about Cross Edge.  I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more 2D games that really take advantage of HD.
27  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Atelier game headed to the PS3 on: March 17, 2009, 09:56:43 PM
I haven't looked at the images I saved of it in a while since I've already decided to buy the game but isn't Cross Edge entirely 2D if I remember correctly?

I'm looking forwards to that game.
28  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Atelier game headed to the PS3 on: March 17, 2009, 09:20:54 PM
Looking at these screens I don't think it's going to lose it's charm, a lot of the game still looks like a Gust game.  The field (and I assume towns) and battle are 3D but there seems to still be a lot of Gust-style anime art so it looks like it feels right.
29  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: New Atelier game headed to the PS3 on: March 17, 2009, 06:23:30 PM
Nice, thanks for the new article on the game today :)

The site in the link also has a new (though sadly blurry) scan of the game with three screenshots.  The anime portraits that come up in front look nice with some nice character designs like their other games such as the Ateliers or Ar Tonelico, one of the alchemy item screens, and one screen that looks like a battle shot with a flashy spell going off.

Hopefully we'll see a better scan of this later so we can better see that battle shot.

Addition:
There's a clearer but smaller scan out now and it seems to have some surprisingly decent cell shaded 3D.

It's hard to make out since it's only a small picture and the character's hand is in front of the face but the shading and 3D art style looks perhaps a bit like Eternal Sonata's.
30  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Star Ocean: The Last Hope news.(56k Warning) on: February 25, 2009, 04:06:30 PM
Lymle's voice is a bit odd, though; is she supposed to be monotonous?

Yeah, she's very monotone in the Japanese version as well which I was watching part of an internet playthrough of, I believe there are a couple of clips out there with her Japanese voice in it too so you can see that was the intention.
