16  Media / Brush and Quill / Broadcast - My New Novel on: October 05, 2011, 06:03:57 AM
Hi all! It's been a long time since I posted any creative stuff here! I've completed a writing degree and a writing masters since the last time, so I've started taking it (probably too) seriously. Anyway, I won't deny that this post is pretty shameless self-promotion. I hope it doesn't breach any forum rules.

Having finished my degrees, I've written a novel, and I'm currently sending it off to agents and publishers. So in support of that, I'm basically trying to drum up a bit of interest online/a parade of largely meaningless views and likes on various websites.

I've made a trailer for the book, which can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSH-oHCQx-4 It's very basic because I have no know-how whatsoever in making videos!

I've also started a web page for it, which is here: http://broadcastnovel.tumblr.com/ Again, quite basic and work in progress at the moment. There's a link there to read the first chapter of the book.

And lastly, the whole thing is available for purchase on the Kindle, if you're that way inclined. That can be found here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Broadcast-ebook/dp/B005QOYG9G/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1317566238&sr=1-1

If people would be kind enough to look, comment, or click 'Like' where it's relevant, I'd really appreciate it :) Thanks for your time. Sorry if this breaks any forum rules.

Hey, how's it going? It's been a while.

There's been no major trouble near me, just a few cars on fire and a smashed up McDonalds. One of the major fires in Croydon was reasonably nearby and we had the smoke blowing over. I just really hope last night was the worst of it.

Nuri, there's some rioting happening a few roads over from me at the moment. Pretty scary stuff.

Hey. How is everyone?

One of the British Fanners whom I've known for a while (through the 'fan) and recently friended on Facebook is/was at Disney and he has a photo gallery of all the insanely obese people (mostly in scooters) that he saw all around Disney/Florida.  It was both amusing, yet horrifying.  Obesity in this country's no joke.

Yeah, and while I was at Universal I saw a fat guy getting turned away from their Incredible Hulk roller coaster because they couldn't get the shoulder restraints over him. It was pretty damn embarassing.

I went on the Potter coasters, and they're amazing!

I'm so working the phrase 'bull dyke' into my day-to-day speaking.

Sunshine's good until it turns into a dodgy slasher at the end. It throws its intelligence out the window, in my opinion.

You guys need to hear A Matter of Life and Death. Seriously.

Favourite pick up line: 'Can I take your virginity, I've lost mine?' Not that I would ever dare to use it :P

My biggest problem is meeting people. Since uni ended, I'm never in a position to meet the womens.

Usually I have a set of lines/anecdotes that seem to work. For one, when they ask what I do, I like to be funny and say "I'm a shepard".  Surprisingly, people are extremely gullible and believe this (I live in a city beside Toronto, a smaller city, but void of any sheep).  Its fun too see how much you can lie. =/

I do this too! The other week I managed to convince a girl that I worked in the USA as a river policeman, patrolling rivers and lakes to prevent dynamite fishing. I was pretty proud of myself.

I'm terrible with women. Terrible. But on my few instances of success I've found that being pretty self-deprecating works quite well. That could be an English thing though. On the flip side of that, I've also found Lev's idea of being jokily insulting pretty successful. So who knows.

Wall-E is a pretty awesome movie for a date. The part where Wall-E and Eva are flying through space together is romanic as hell.

I'm pretty amazed that those gyms are for real...no wonder America produces so many good athletes. The sports facilities at my school were a joke.

What's a bleacher? Is it the stands?
27  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Question for Americans on: May 04, 2010, 01:58:38 PM
I always wondered this too! And if high school kids over there do actually all look about 30 years old :P

Also, I'm assuming it's bullshit that all the high schools have those huge gyms, with the enormous fold out stands and the shiny floor and scoreboards and shower rooms and stuff?

Neal, you're pretty.

Seriously, this was FRONT PAGE news on some papers over here.

I work in a pet shop, and the laws on selling fish and how they have to be kept are really strict now. We don't sell to anyone under 18. The thing is, the laws are there for the welfare of the fish, something that's been ignored until now because 'they're only fish'. That's wrong in my opinion, because a fish is an animal too. But I really don't believe that this is the way to go about upholding the laws. Just suspend her license or something.

It's got me pretty worried though, I'm going to be ID'ing everyone for fish this weekend! :P

On the whole, mine are all fairly tame. Rape alarms = lots of fun in a university house!

My best is probably a fairly traditional turd in a box, sent in the post. I actually get a lot of enjoyment from simple classics. I once rigged the whole house up with things like water buckets on doors, all that stuff. When my housemate got back from work, he didn't expect them, because no one does them anymore!
