Unless you're bilingual, how exactly do you judge the quality of the voice acting?  I've never understood the big deal people make about voice acting.  Back when I was younger I preferred no voice acting because it meant the character sounded how I thought they should. :P

yeah, i cant tell a bad japanese voice actor from a good one, but they sound better than a bad english actor every time.

I didn't notice any option for japanese voices. The NA actors for the most part aren't too bad so hopefully it won't be an issue for you. Presumably the ds cart size would probably prevent the japanese voices from being added, not that there is an overabundance of voice acting but with everything that's in the game I could imagine every bit of extra space counted.

ah, ok. i always like to have the option to change to japanese voices bcoz a lot of rpgs ive played, the english voice acting gets on my nerves. eternal sonata and crystal chronicals DS are good examples of this and im very glad they included the japanese voice acting in it.

Can you choose to use the Japanese voice acters in the game or is English the only option? just in case the English acters grate..

Im on the 3rd disc with 30hours on it. i love this game. the story is fantastic, as are the characters. i love the fact that you're always getting new abilities every battle or two.

Make the game harder. SuiV from my experience with it could be played on auto battle.

Since I have RPG OCD don't make some characters impossible to obtain.

Pick up the pace, SuiV didn't get moving until about 20 hours, and by then I was bored and quit.

actually, thats when i quit playing too.
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Japanese games worth importing.. on: January 03, 2008, 04:27:59 AM

Why do people think there are Japanese games w/ English subtitles?  How many English games do you own that include Japanese subtitles? :P  Fighting games, racing games etc. often have English menus and so forth, but if you're looking for an Import RPG, which are a little text-intensive... heh.  I can't think of a single game, honestly.

If you want to play imports, learn Japanese.  From my own experience, it took about ~9 years from scratch to near-fluent, but it was a worthwhile endeavor.

so, the short answer is: you dont know. thanks for the feed back though.

Does anyone know of any good Jap-only games that have english subtitles that are worth importing? Adventure and rpg's would be good. theres heaps on play-asia, but i dunno which have english sub titles.

yeah, thats what i was worried about. i would be very upset if i spend 50 bucks on it and find out its like chrono trigger..

Oh man, this sentence makes me cry.  I'd gladly spend 50$ for something as awesome as Chrono Trigger. :P

well, yeah, i was disapointed with it. ive been gaming since the atari 2600, and played my fair share of over rated games, and chrono trigger is one of them. chrono cross was better, but that was no classic either.

yeah, ive thought of the 'other' ways of playing it, but i try to do the right thing. and i am a bit of a collector, so i would love the cart and box.. but the problem is that chrono trigger was always  said to be an amazing game too, and i did track down a copy and.... well, i wasnt overly impressed.
14  Media / Single-Player RPGs / secret of mana on: January 03, 2008, 02:47:03 AM
ok, this game is known world wide as a classic. a 'must play' game. but, is it worth paying $50+ for a copy on ebay?  those of you who have it, is it worth it?
