The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies -

*sighs*
These movies started out slightly above mediocre, and just got worse. This makes me sad, as I really wanted to like them. I love the world, and (some of) the characters. It's just that I didn't care one bit about any of them. It doesn't help that the story is completely devoid of emotion, and any real consequences.
The two best characters, Bilbo and Gandalf, had absolutely nothing to do here, wandering around like lost puppy dogs. It was kind of sad.
The battle, which is basically the entire movie, is way too long, and is filled with too many ridiculous moments, that are meant to stir us, but just left me wondering when it was all going to end.
They really should have just made The Hobbit one long 3 hour movie, or maybe two, with a tad bit more exposition.
These movies just dragged, with too many lengthy scenes that added nothing to the overall story.
My 13 year old son seems to have liked them quite a bit, and maybe I would have too, at his age. It's amazing what years of life and wisdom do to ones perspective and enjoyment of things like movies.

I have plenty of retail experience. 5+ years at Babbages(pre-cursor to Gamestop), a year at Jewel, and another in a garden center.
I was at Babbages long before the modern, more obnoxious, sales tactics employed by Gamestop. We did have these card stamp things that they wanted us to get people signed up for. Pre-orders we're just getting to be a big thing when I left. This was about 15+ years ago, I think.
Now I work in landscape sales, but am the "man behind the curtain", so to speak, so I rarely work with clients directly. I like it that way.

You just saved me money. I was considering trying out Anachronox someday, but have always hesitated due to my expecting it to play like an "old" rpg. Like you said, in my teen years I may have enjoyed that, but just don't have the time, nor the patience, for it now.

I've been playing a lot of Dragon Age 3. I love it, warts and all. There's so much to do, and it's satisfying even in short sessions. I normally alternate my nights between gaming and tv shows, but I've been playing this every night. It'll keep me busy for quite a while.

I thought Elf was pretty good, not the definitive Christmas movie that a lot of people think it is, but still an entertaining movie. Only thing I didn't like about it was the scene that did an especially good job at highlighting how freakin' creepy "Baby It's Cold Outside" really is.

That song is awful no matter who is singing it, or what the circumstances are.

Plus, Dark haired Zooey > blonde Zooey

I still bristle when I think about the Grand Jewel battle in Legend of Dragoon.  That game had a lot of tough bosses, but Grand Jewel is one I distinctly remember pissing me and a lot of people off.

I never beat Legend of Dragoon due to the horribly long final battle that never ended. I tried it 4 or 5 times and gave up.

I HATE HATE HATE Elf. A horrible movie that I just don't understand why anyone likes. It's not funny. It's just stupid. IMNSHO, of course. ;-)

The Grand Budapest Hotel -
Another bizarre as hell Wes Anderson movie. Basically, if you're a fan of his visual, and story-telling, style, then you'll love this film. All others might just wonder about what the heck they just watched.
Ralph Fiennes is amazing as Gustave, and is the heart of the movie.
Everyone is fantastic, though.
I'd call it a comedic caper movie. There really wasn't much here that made me feel anything, but I never expect that from Anderson.

I'll play the hell out of it if only because the characters are so awesome. I wanna have a glass of scotch w/ Sully
Wait, wasn't he an asshole in the last game? I've always just found him annoying. A decent character to play off of Nathan, and whatever female is there, but that's it.

Hot gosh darn this game looks pretty! And I love the new trailer. I can't wait for it! I think this will be the reason I purchase a PS4. Guess I better start saving.
There's getting to be a LOT of reasons now. I thought I would wait until next Christmas, but I may get one sooner. We'll see.

Is anyone else actually watching American Horror Story: Freak Show? I would have given up on it a while ago, but it's the rare show I watch together with my wife.
It's just gone so far far off the rails. It's all about being "extreme" and showing daring, grisly, and perverted things, but with a very weak story at it's core. I can see how this might appeal to younger audiences, but it's just not working for me. I care nothing for any of the characters. Zilch. It's obvious they were' going for the "We are ALL freaks" in different ways motif, but you have to have someone to like on a show, if even only a little.

I need to get back and finish the last season of Breaking Bad. Then watch the 2nd season of House of Cards. Ya know, actual GOOD television shows.

Damn game has completely locked up my PS3 twice now. I hate having to turn it off without shutting it down properly. Plus, it did it last night right in the middle of saving, so hopefully I didn't lose much progress.
I chose to align with the mages over the Templars. I'm a mage, so of course I did! Cassandra seems pissed, though.
Time to get back to side quests.

Beat the game in 20 hours!? Wha? I'm at 20 hours, and I just got Dorian! This Skyhold place everyone keeps talking about is but a whisp of a dream for me. I've been mixing up side quests with story quests.
There's so much to do, and I really want to get the most out of it. I can see this taking me over a 100 hours, and I'm ok with that.

Some day I'll be able to justify the cost of a PS4. But not yet.
Anyway...
Just met Dorian. He seems like a fun character. Pretty classic dashing hero archetype.
The patch downloaded last night, but I don't really know what it did.

I love Dorian. Reminds me of Errol Flynn + The guy from A Princess Bride
Bingo! Probably why I like him.
13  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden 1 and 2 finally coming to psn + Suikoden discussion. on: December 10, 2014, 09:32:02 PM
Wow, I didn't realize my question would spark such a conversation! I told him to check the games out on youtube and see if it looks good to him. There's been a few other games that I've recommended that he didn't like, or just got bored with, so you never know. He's a nut for everything Pokemon, Zelda, Ys, Chrono Trigger, etc.
I remember Suikoden 1 having a great soundtrack as well, although I don't recall how it compares to 2.

I've got to get my rpg-loving son to play a Suikoden game. I think he'd love them. I wonder if I should start him on 1, or just skip to 2? Hmmm.
