No, as I have no reason to be. I used to wear a mask or dress up on occasion for the trick or treaters, but haven't done so in a while.
If I had a party to attend, I would do the costume thing. It's all in good fun.
We're a tad sad, as our 13.5 year old son decided he doesn't want to go trick or treating this year. He just "doesn't feel like it" is his response. I think my last year going was 13 or 14.
Thing is, every year I get "kids" older than that dressed up(or not) and begging for candy. It doesn't bother me. If you're willing to put in the effort, I'll reward you with candy, no matter your age.
We are on a high traffic corner, and regularly hand out between 300-350 pieces of candy. The weather might limit that this year as it's supposed to be sucky out tomorrow. 40 degrees and windy as hell. We'll see.

Thor 2 was pretty weak, IMHO.
Cap 2 was fantastic.
Iron Man 2 and 3 were both just ok. Still amusing due to RDjr. being awesome in the role.
The Hobbit movies have been extremely mediocre so far. Decent entertainment, but not memorable at all. The last 30 minutes of 2 saved that movie.

I kind of don't like knowing so far ahead of time what all is coming out. I prefer knowing the year before, so the wait isn't so long. Although, several of these I have zero thoughts on due to knowing nothing of the material.

Moving along in Mistborn #2: Well of Ascension
I'm getting close to the end.
Someone make movies out of these books, PLEASE! Oh, my god, how I want to see Vin in action on a movie screen.
Code:
The Koloss are way derivative of every fantasy creature ever, and I had hope for a short while that they would break the stereotype, but it was not to be. They are evil troll-like things, and that's just the way it is.
I'm at the part where Vin returns to Luthadel, and starts kicking Koloss ass all over the place.
I get shivers at these scenes, and shivers again thinking about them done with a LOTR(Avengers?) style budget and devotion.
I've even been wondering who would be cast as Vin.
A man can dream.

My wife pre-purchased this for me for my birthday, so I'll have it on my doorstep on the 18th. I hope it's good!

Total agreement with Star and Dice. This episode was just "blah". Nothing really happened. I'm a total tree hugger, but still found the whole "trees are great" business a bit over the top.
Her sisters name was Annabelle? Really? That's a type of Hydrangea, in case anyone didn't know that. A white one, though. The one shown was purple or blue. That little side story was pointless.
The Clara/Danny relationship keeps getting  worse and worse.
Can we see the dark haired lady slowly killed in the last episode? Or at least roughed up a bit? That might make the whole season worth while.

I am 40 today. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. I can't say I'm happy about it, that's for sure. The older I get, the more pressure I feel to DO things, and make some sort of difference in the world before it's all over. Because of my weird health condition, and my constant pain medication, I can't help but think there is no way I'm making it to anywhere near 80.
Anyway, I didn't mean this to be a downer post.  Most days I feel well enough to do most anything I want to do. I think my point is that while I have this weird sense of urgency in my life, I see very few people out there who seem to feel the same. I get frustrated because I'm out there doing things while others are sitting at home watching shit TV shows or whatever.
Thing is, I also understand that I'm lucky enough to be at a point in my life where I am able, and have a little bit of time, to do things like volunteer, and educate myself further. I find myself frequently getting frustrated, and judgmental, of the actions(or lack thereof) of other people, without knowing anything about them. This is wrong, I know, but I still do it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, midlife crisis and shit. Save the goddamn Monarch butterfly motherf*$kers!

The Wolf of Wall Street -
This was ridiculously long. They could have cut out an hour and still told the same story, only better.
The movie is basically 2 hours of showing how lavish and full of drugs and debauchery his life was, and the rest being about his rise and fall. This really just felt like an excuse for a crazy couple year long, drug-filled, hooker-filled, party.
Leo was fine as Jordan, but it's not the type of role he hasn't played before. I do think he is a bit old for the part, but they did a decent job of making him look younger.
I was mortified when Jonah Hill showed up, and remained mortified every time he was on screen. I cannot stand him, and remain baffled as to how he even got in this industry to begin with. He knows the right people, I guess.
Overall, it was still decently entertaining, and interesting, but I wouldn't call it a great movie. Certainly not worthy of award nominations.

I missed last nights episode due to being out with my wife. I'll try and find a way to watch it tomorrow night and report back.

Current haps: dinner is risotto and steak with a 24 year old Azn

What are you doing with someone from Arizona?

+1
So what's up with mentioning that you're with a 24 year old asian? Why not just say your out on a date or out with your girlfriend? You're trying to make gamer geeks jealous aren't you?
Pics or it didn't happen.

Sale of the Dead on PSN is just too tempting. I've always wanted to try out a Fatal Frame game, so I went ahead and bought FF2 for 3.49, or whatever it was. I read that it's supposed to be the scariest of the 3 on there, and not as hard as the first one. We'll see how it goes.
11  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Ghost in the Shell (by Hollywood) on: October 23, 2014, 04:23:45 PM
Continuing off topic, as we all know Hollywood would thoroughly ruin a GitS adaptation. (It probably doesn't help that I don't particularly like SJ):

So you didn't like it because angry faced Jeremy Renner spent most of the movie making angry faces?? It was stupid because it was supposed to be stupid. Its over the top on purpose and if you actually get the joke its awesome. in fact, Renner and Gemma Arterton (the female lead in clash of the titans) have both gone on record a bunch of times about how much fun making it was.

This.
Well, not Grim ultimately feeling insulted "this", but H&G being a fantastic film "this". I put up a glowing review before Grim's, and I stand by it. It was just fun as hell to watch. Over the top and delicious. Shouldn't be taken as anything more than that.
Now granted, Grim is pretty much straight edge, and I watched it through 420 vision. I'm sure that helped my enjoyment level a lot - lol. Even then, I know I'd still enjoy it without the haze.
Straight Edge? Where'd you get that idea? No 420 for me, but I certainly enjoy my wine and beer.
Like I said earlier, I know exactly what they were going for, and felt like they didn't accomplish it(along with hundreds of reviewers: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hansel_and_gretel_witch_hunters/?search=hansel )
Yeah, I know, reviewers suck and stuff, but they are generally correct in the aggregate)
I wanted to like it, as the material is right up my alley, but it just wasn't to be. At least Gemma is hot.
Oh, well. To each his own, right?

In the first 2 minutes of walker, the Dali llama is brutally attacked in the middle of a Texas amusement park and I'm already sold on this being the best episode yet.

edit: a magical child just breathed a potted plant back to life!

omg this show can't be for real...

I remember watching Walker way back when it was aired. I don't recall it being so damn wacky, though. You're making me want to re-watch this ridiculousness!

Last night - Ep.3 of American Horror Story Freak Show
This show, like it's predecessors, just keeps getting more and more bizarre. In no way is it good television, and yet I can't look away. They almost have too many characters with too many things going on. I'm not really liking the weird song #'s. Especially considering they have all been songs that came out long past the time the show takes place in.

The Purge - For 12 hours a year, all violent crime, including murder, is legal.
Not bad. Interesting idea/plot. Pretty short film overall, but then it's only supposed to take place over 12 hours. Kinda lame how the last 10 minutes or so of the film are given away VERY early on. Saw it coming a mile away.
The long-haired crazy kid definitely needed more screen time. Don't want to say too much else about the plot, in case there are some who have yet to see it. With a film like this, it's too easy to say too much.
I'd say if you are a fan of this type of film, it's worth a watch. It doesn't do anything amazing or groundbreaking, though.

Yeah, I watched The Purge recently as well. It wasn't that great of a movie, due to some contrived sequences. It was still a decent home invasion flik, though
Code:
Why the hell would the kid have the code?! Has nothing like this ever happened before in all the years the purge has been happening? Hard to believe. Then we have the boyfriend situation. He wants to kill the girls dad just because he doesn't want her to date creepy older guys? That's nuts.
The nutjob "kids" in the movie that invade their home: How are they able to lead normal lives the rest of the year? You can't be that crazy one night, and be an upstanding citizen the next 364. No way.
The movie was pretty disturbing from a home invasion standpoint. And just thinking about something like The Purge actually happening makes for an interesting conversation. I think most people wouldn't participate at all. But how many nutters are out there that actually would? I don't really know, but it's scares that there are those that would.
I actually DO want to see Anarchy, just to see the street viewpoint of it all.

FFXII had a story it wanted to tell, but the scope of the game's development and Squeenix's development practices blasted that game from pretty much every direction.

At least it had that over FFXIII which spent all its time writing its prologue and basically gave us a minor character arc and three different variants on how the story ends (which FFXIII-2 basically came along and said that none of them mattered anyways because the story ain't over yet).

Man I get it if they intentionally dubbed it in British English to make it all sound... I don't know, Britishy for the hell of it like they did with the Dragon Quest games as of late, but complaining about everyone having a British accent in a dub released primarily for UK distribution is like complaining about how everyone's speaking in Japanese in a Japanese dub.

I've said it around here before, but one of the reasons I stopped playing was because of the annoyingly repetitive battle voices. They drove me nuts! A game should always give you the option to turn them off. Always.

The problem with this is that the voice clips are pretty much your best indicator as to what your party members are doing and is essential in setting up some of the more complicated Arts Combos available like the Break > Topple > Daze > Face Wrecker combo.

I should have explained myself better. I actually meant the after battle voices. Terribly annoying.

I'm still playing Alan Wake. I like it well enough, but purely from a story and atmosphere viewpoint. The gameplay leaves much to be desired. I run madly from lighted area to lighted area, trying desperately to not get killed. Facing off against the enemies is almost always a losing proposition.

I liked Balthier's voice.  It's just a personal preference.  Most of the XC characters' accents sound to me like a British version of the millions and millions of good ol boys that infest my neck of the woods.  If I want to feel like I'm watching a Guy Richie movie I'll fire up a copy of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
