I hate Emma's new haircut. Yesterday I read an interview where she said that after not being able to change her appearance for 10 years because of her contract with WB, she decided to do something radical. She spent her entire teenage life without changing her hair or even getting a tan, I guess that was frustrating. I hope she realizes her mistake and lets it grow again.
100% agreement. That haircut was appalling. Then we have the tanning thing. Tanning is ugly, anyway. I've always preferred girls/women who look normal, or even on the paler side. Plus, it gives you cancer.
2102  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Why are games so easy these days? on: November 23, 2010, 03:35:23 PM
I generally have a rule when it comes to my games...

If it's an RPG I will play on the "normal" setting to experience the game as the developers intended.  They will tend to last roughly 30-50 hours anyway.

If it isn't an RPG (recent examples being Vanquish, Deadly Premonition, God of War III) I will bump up the difficulty.  Those types of games last me longer if it's harder.  I can't stand looking forward to game for so long only to have it beaten in 8-10 hours!  I enjoy them much more that way.
I do the same with rpgs, but the opposite with non-rpgs. Those go to the easy setting pretty much without exception. Otherwise, I am unable to get very far into the games. For me difficulty does not equal fun.
To contrast that, I recently played through Metroid: Other M, which did not have a difficulty setting. I found the game challenging(especially some of the later bosses), but totally doable.
I'm playing Lords of Shadow now and am finding the "Squire" setting to be plenty challenging for me. I can't imagine attempting any of the higher settings.

I hate Faris' pirate accent in the Playstation port.

I hated Kid's aussie or hick (or something) accent throughout all of CC.  Made her sound like her IQ was shot since understanding her took that much more effort to read.
Posts like this make me wish posts here had "like" buttons like on Facebook.
I friggin' hated Kid.

2104  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Sex and Violence in Gaming on: November 19, 2010, 09:55:29 PM
Violence very rarely bothers me, but a few of the moves in GoWIII made me wince a little.
I prefer sex to stay as far away as possible from gaming. It just doesn't work. Even the Mass Effects scenes made me feel uncomfortable. It has nothing to do with being a prude(far from it). It's just that games are not yet at the point where such things can take place seamlessly within the game. They stand out as silly or goofy or whatever. This is not good in a serious game like ME.
Now, there's nothing wrong with a little sexual banter/innuendo, but the stuff in that Ar Tonelico video from the other thread was just ridiculous. Not in a funny way either.
2105  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What will bring RPGs back? on: November 19, 2010, 09:45:09 PM
To each his own, I suppose, but those games look to emphasize the exact reasons I've all but given up on jrpgs. If the battle system is good that's one thing. But if it's surrounded by all sorts of goofy nonsense then I'm not going to bother.
You guys HAVE made me curious about the music, however. I'll have to look it up.

what is the Ar Tonelico series all about? Is it just a vehicle for cutesy rpg-ness?

Is about this.

Warning, NSFW

WTF?! Some of you actually like this garbage? Enough to call this a reason to get a PS3? Wow. Just wow.

Then we have the list Kevadu posted. I am not interested in any of those except Dragon Age 2, and that only halfheartedly. The Last Guardian is still wait and see.
Like I said earlier, I'll just stick with my action/adventure games with rpg elements.

2107  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: November 19, 2010, 10:33:31 AM
Watched Scott Pilgrim last night. I thought it was damn creative and a lot of fun. I still don''t like Cera much, as he just plays himself in every role, but it didn't hurt the movie.
I loved all the video game references. I can totally see how this might not appeal to a good chunk of the population, but It's still sad that it did so poorly. It has future cult classic written all over it.
I almost think knives was hotter than Ramona, though. She was cute as hell. Then again, you could tell that Mary Elizabeth Winstead was brought down a level for this movie. In normal pics of her she is quite attractive.
2108  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: No one hitting AssCreed: B? on: November 19, 2010, 10:25:17 AM
I have yet to play a AC game, and probably never will. I'm not fond of the whole "sneaking around" style of gameplay. Too much God of War and Devil May Cry will do that to you.
2109  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What will bring RPGs back? on: November 19, 2010, 10:22:48 AM
Considering how much the mechanics of rpgs are being implemented in every type of game nowadays, I really don't see rpgs "coming back". I'm not sure I even care if they do. The last "rpg" I played was Mass Effect 2, and that can barely even be called one. Doesn't matter to me, as it was amazing, and the perfect example of the evolution of rpgs. I really don't have time or patience for "old style" rpgs anymore.
I have absolutely zero interest in anything on that list Dice put up. I'm sure I'll pick up Dragon Age 2 in the spring, but besides that I can't think of any other rpg I'm interested in. This is fine by me, as there are all sorts of games that I need to catch up on. I have yet to play Uncharted 2, Nier, Darksiders, etc.
I would like to pick up a psp so I can play the three Ys games, but that's not likely to happen.
Now back to Lords of Shadow, which I am enjoying more than any rpg in recent memory.

2110  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Deathly Hallows on: November 17, 2010, 05:02:14 PM
I enjoyed the books quite a bit, although the last one had some serious issues.
I've had few problems with the movies up until the last one. They omitted crucial(IMO) parts of the book that really brought it down for me. I liked the movie just fine until the last half hour or so.
Deathly Hallows I am excited for, but I'm keeping it in check after HBP. Let alone the fact that we aren't even getting the whole deal yet.
This will be the first Potter movie that my son will get to see in the theater. He's 9 now, and I figure that's old enough. We'll go see it in a few weeks.
2111  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Castlevania - Lords of Shadow on: November 16, 2010, 03:11:18 PM
I'm totally loving this game. I do have a couple problems with it, though. I don't like how the game treats a second run through a level as if it were your first. I'd like to go back and get some of the things I missed, but hate having to go back through the whole level again. Those damn percentages are taunting me, though.
I also wish there was a bit more variety with the music. It's very good, but it feels like I keep hearing the same tracks over and over again.
I continue to be floored by how gorgeous this game is. This is really one of the best looking games I have ever played. Actually, I am way impressed by the whole production. This game is screaming triple AAA, but few people seem to be listening. Too bad for them, I guess.

The levels are short, I don't think it's a problem. The game looks good but it's a shame there is no AA, with some form of AA and a bit more polish it could've been up there with sony's best first party games. The art is great though and some of the vistas are amazing.
Some levels are short. Others are pretty long. Long enough that it's a pain to go through them again.  I also think it's silly to have to re-fight bosses. If it's part of a trial, that's fine, but it's stupid otherwise.
I guess my eyes suck, but I don't notice any lack of AA. Perhaps if there was a picture showing it in use, and not in use, I would. All I know is that the game looks fantastic.

2113  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Lonely Internet People - Unite!!! on: November 14, 2010, 12:25:48 PM
I've never been one to have many friends. I was extremely introverted in high school, and only had a few pseudo friends then. In college I opened up a bit, and hung out with a great group of people. Since then, there has been a severe drop off in friendships, let alone time for such things.
I work full time, am married, and have a kid to take care of, so I wouldn't have time for friends even if I had any. I get plenty of social interaction with my fellow co-workers (a few I would consider actual friends) that I have no interest(or need) for further interaction with people beyond that.

I am not a lonely person. I am content in my lack of friends. Heck, all the things I love to do are solitary activities. My #1 hobby(lifestyle) is gardening. Then there's the gaming, reading, and watching of movies, all best done alone, IMHO.
I barely have time to do these things, let alone go gallivanting around with "friends".
The internet has certainly allowed me to talk to people that I ordinarily would not be able to. Through message boards like this, FB, and whatnot, I am able to "talk" to like-minded people on  a daily basis.
Plus, like DC, I am a slow thinker, and like having time to get my thoughts together. In person(or on the phone), I feel pressured, and things just never seem to come out right.
2114  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: November 13, 2010, 10:01:25 AM
Lords of Shadow - I am now in chapter 4. I'm playing the game on "Squire" mode(of, course) and am surprised by how challenging it is. The Lycan Lord was pretty damn tough, and took me numerous tries to defeat.
Overall, though, I am really enjoying the game. Too bad so few other people are.

*oh, look! a shiny new fps just like the last fps!*
6 million sold in a day.
wtf?
2115  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Jumping the gap on: November 09, 2010, 10:09:46 AM
My wife was a Farmville addict up until recently, when she dropped it cold turkey.
She is the perfect example of what you are talking about.
Game#1 that everyone loves - Mario Kart. I'm not terribly fond of it, but we can play it together, and that counts for something.
Other games that she enjoys/has enjoyed:
Puzzle games! Tetris, Bust-a-move, Dr. Mario, Boom Blox, etc.
Katamari Damacy! She loves these. Simple and fun.
Harvest Moon - She played the Gamecube one a long time, before getting bored with it.

Basically, the same stuff everyone else is recommending.
Good luck.
