FFXII - I am now in Draklor Laboratory. Clock is around 77 hours. Characters are all lvl 37. While I am still enjoying it, I hope it doesn't go on TOO much longer. Then again, I still want to go back and do more of the hunts, which I have been lax on. I don't get the whole "chops" business. Maybe if they were "chops" as in "pork chops" I could slather them in BBQ and have a tasty meal. Otherwise, it just feels like tacked on nonsense. As if the game wasn't long enough already.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed when I read this earlier. He had a pretty "varied" collection of movies, didn't he? Baby Geniuses? and the sequel? ugh. He gets a pass for all the junk just for making A Christmas Story. Of course, in my usual judgemental way, I couldn't help but wonder what the hell they were doing out at 2:30 am. Go to bed, man! The drunk dude didn't happen to be illegal did he? Whole 'nother can of worms there.

We watched Hard Candy sat night. Odd movie. I'm honestly not sure what to think of it. A lot about this movie bothered me(not in a good way, if you know what I mean) and I can't say I would recommend it.

Wow, such hostility. I didn't realize so many folks had such issues with the game. The nice thing, i've found, about this game, is that you can choose not to do things that you don't like or are confused by. I have obtained only two summons in the course of the game so far(I have played for over 60 hours and am in the Salikawood) I think I used the fire dude once. I have used quickenings only a few times. I rarely, if ever, use teleport stones to go anywhere. This results in my characters leveling up fairly well, and obtaining enough loot to sell for Gil. I have no complaints here. The only time I have used teleport stones is when doing hunts, which I find fun, and a good way to build up your characters inbetween following the story. I am NOT playing the game for the story. I honestly have no clue what is going in the story, and don't really care. I DO like the characters, and want to know what is going to happen to them. The license board is kinda stupid, but it is a minor complaint surrounded by a lot of good. I actually like the gambit system quite a bit. I also rather enjoy the battle system. After this game I will be dreadfully bored with any game heralding a "traditional" rpg setup. I agree with DC about the music. While I would not listen to it outside of the game, it fits very well within the context of the game itself. I know Alisha enjoys her online gaming, but I don't understand why she is comparing those games to an offline game. Personally, I have yet tp play an online rpg, and hope to keep it that way.

FFXII - I am now in the Salikawood right after you have to find the 9 slacker moogles. I encountered a fireball/bomb boss type thing, and after a tough battle, lost with much shame. I spent some time adjusting my gambits and thinking strategy, and will fight the bastard again tonight. Over 60 hours in and I still love this game.

We watched The Prestige last night. I swear half the time I didn't know what was going on. The sequence of events had me confused, too. Add in having to keep the volume relatively low due to a sleeping child and I ended wishing I had watched this one by myself with headphones on. Seemed like a good movie.

FFXII - No plot progression for me last night. I just hunted some marks. I defeated the big blob that likes girls in the waterway last night. I also knocked off Marilith, Blood Wing and Trickster. CW, what level are your characters? And what rank are the monsters your fighting? I know Trickster is rank V. I ask because I am just now starting to fight the rank III hunts. I beat the Ring Wyrm last night. It put a pretty good fight , and seemed to have a lot of HP. No one died, though. My characters are all around lvl 30 now. I am debating wether I should pursure more rank III hunts or continue on with the story.

Y's Y's Y's - I have all sorts of Y's cds but the original soundtrack to Y's I & II remains my favorite. Y's III was quite good as well. *psycho fan alert* NO APOSTROPHE!!!!!!!!!!! Y's = incorrect. It suggests you should pronounce like a plural of the letter "y". As in "Wise." Ys = correct. Pronounce it as if you were saying "East," but drop the t. Had to say it. Also, he's right about the music. It's freaking fantastic. The least memorable Ys soundtrack probably goes to Ys V. Ys IV has good music, but it's RARE stuff. I and II has been reprinted in all shapes and sizes, and is a great buy. III recently had its music remade in "Oath in Felghana" -- awesome soundtrack. Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim is a completely different sound from a whole new era of Falcom...but personally, I liked it. Finally, Ys Origin has a soundtrack coming out in late March..expect a review from us. :P Other good Falcom albums? The arranged albums for the Legend of Heroes series is good, and they're still available. All the other good stuff is super-hard to get these days. Ramza HA! Thanks for the correction, Ramza, although I've known the correct pronounciation for quite a long time. It's that dang apostrophe I forget to exclude. As for Oath in Felghanas music. I actually prefer the original Ys III ST over Oaths. It's still great stuff, of course, but it sounds a bit overdone to me. I always liked the music to the one Legend of Heroes game I had for the TGCD. Dragon Slayer? I thnk that was the name. I get confused over the names.

sorry about the thread derailing, but...
I actually kind of made a quickening work last night. I had Van, Balthier, and Basch in battle, all with one Quickening each. I started it up, then just hit the Triangle, Square, and X buttons. Seemed to work. A MAJOR problem that I see with using them is that you end up with ZERO MP. That sucks. I think I'd rather keep my MP.
To keep this journal-like, I DID beat another hunt last night. I think I'll do a few more before continuing on with the story.

Nan and I were off on Friday so we found the last theatre still playing Pans Labyrinth and went. I enjoyed the movie, but it was not as good as the hype made it out to be. I know they had to make her do it to enhance the movie, but the girl WOULD NOT have eaten the grapes! This continues to bother me. I found it interesting how the Captain somehow became a supervillain, capable of withstanding numerous knife wounds and a large dose of sedatives. I pretty much knew the girl was going to die, but how sad was that ending? Even to the end, she was embroiled in her fantasy world.
This is a movie I look forward to seeing again at home. It was certainly well made and entertaining. Also, I forgot to post that I saw Heavenly Creatures a few weeks ago. I really liked this movie. Kind of Similar to Pans in a way. Growing up and innocence lost. Well made movie.

Actually, I really don't like "Creative Cornucopia" It doesn't make sense. It would have to be "Cornucopia of Creativity". Are Cornucopias Creative? Then again, does the imagination need a sanctuary? What the hell does it really matter? Why did I write this? I rarley go in that section anyway. I vote for " The Imaginative Sanctuary for Creative Cornucopias!" Done.

FFXII - Haste + Berserk = awesome! Anyway... Quite a bit of stuff going on. I played through the Stillshrine. Beat the first boss pretty easily, but had a hell of a time with the Esper boss. It kept putting my characters to sleep! Add in all the minions and it took me forever to beat it. It came down to keeping everyone hasted and Balthier berserked. Then I went back to Mt. Bur and got in a fight with one of the Judges. He was pretty tough but I somehow managed to beat him. Now I'm supposed to go all the way to Archades Instead of continuing with the story, I am going after some hunts. All my characters are around lvl 29 right now. I have no clue how to use Quickenings, so I never use them. What the hell are you supposed to do after initiating it? Anyone feel like enlightening an idiot?

Good job, CW, beating Garuda without the berries. I got my ass kicked the first time I fought it. BTW, I have no idea why that would be a spoiler.
FFXII - I am now in the Miriam(that the name?) Stillshrine, after some fancy sword. I wish I had Haste. Hopefully, it won't be too long before it finally makes an appearance.

I am at the point in my life where I barely have time to play an rpg once, let alone 2 or 3 times. There are far too many good games out there for me to play, than to go back and play something I've already been through. I miss enough good games as it is. Anyone wanna spot me some cheese?

Most everything that needs to be said has already been covered, but I feel like chiming in anyway. DR's got it right with the Castlevanias. Great tunes. Still havent played Curse yet, though. I need to pick that up.
Y's Y's Y's - I have all sorts of Y's cds but the original soundtrack to Y's I & II remains my favorite. Y's III was quite good as well.
I agree on FFXII. While the music doesn't outright offend me, it is certanly nothing memorable. My fav FF ST's were IV & VI.
The Chrono games have great music. I prefer Trigger over Cross.
I stopped playing Suiko V due to boredom. The music didn't do much for me either. I can't recall a single tune.
No one else ever brings it up, but I love the ST to Dungeon Explorer II for the TGCD. The game didn't do much for me, but I still listen to the music after all these years. Great stuff. Same with Gates and Lords of Thunder, if rock is your thing.
There's been very little good music in games lately. My personals faves of tyhe last few years are Skies of Arcadia, Dark Cloud 2, and Okami.
