2131  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Vanquish, Bayonetta meets Casshern? on: September 05, 2010, 01:00:18 PM
I played the demo twice and always picked normal. I don't even know what the difference is, gotta check it out but from the name I can tell that it makes the game too easy.

Casual = casual
Auto = auto-targeting the first time you aim

Even tho it's not much of a difference between them really and I'm glad, compared to Bayonetta's easy modes which made the game feel awkward doing random combos. Who even plays these modes?

<---Plays almost every game on easy mode. Hard games =/= fun to me. I have yet to play Bayonetta, but I hear it has a zillion difficulty levels. I'll probably not pick the super easy one. Whichever mode is the next below normal is what I will play in.

I didn't notice any type of auto anything in the mode I played. I guess I was expecting a lock on or something. Once I got used to it, I was doing ok, regardless.

WTF indeed. As soon as I saw Golden Sun as his #1 game of the past decade he lost me.

Ok, so I DLed the demo. I picked "casual auto" whatever that means. It was pretty tough, regardless.
I love the whole boost slide thing, and the slow-mo shooting. It's crazy fast, and a lot of fun. The more I played, the better I got at it. Didn't beat the big ass robot, though.
It feels like Gears of War on speed. I have a feeling this game will hand me my ass, so it's not one I would buy right away. When it eventually drops to $30 or something I'll pick it up.

I was quite shocked when I saw the DDS games as #1. Never even occurred to me that that was a possibility. Granted, I've never played them, so I have no opinion on the matter.
Actually, I've never really played ANY of the Persona/SMT/DDS games outside of playing Persona 2 for about a half hour and not liking it.
I've mostly avoided them because they seem to be very long and difficult games. I have no patience for either of those traits nowadays.
Happy to see Skies so far up the list.

I would hate being at the mercy of public transit. With my own car I get to go where I want, when I want.
Cab drivers are generally insane and drive like such(Chicago ones, anyway)
Riding a bus or train means you have to share space with a bunch of other mopes. No, thanks.
Plus, I'd rather listen to my music on a stereo than earbuds.
All that being said, I can totally see the advantages of not having a car in a big city. I just don't think I could do it.
I live in the burbs of Chicago, so I don't have a choice anyway.
Around here a girl would totally laugh at a guy who didn't have a license or a car. Unless all your dates are in the basement, you NEED them.

And why the hell is Samus all broody and introverted now?

Wait... what did you expect? If she had been anything else, it would have been VERY wrong.

Think about it, she's a young woman who's entire collony was killed by horrible aliens, and then got saved by a completely different group of aliens that raised her for most of her youth and even infused her with some of their DNA (or blood, I forget). Then they promptly died or transcended. The girl is going to have SERIOUS attachment issues, not to mention a complete dissassociation with humanity in general. It's a wonder she even came back and signed up with the military.

I always saw her this way. They actually got her pretty close to the way I invisioned. That's why it surprises me so much that people are upset about her monotone voice and introversion. How else would a person whose been through that be?

And for the record, I'm very much enjoying the game. I would have liked a more extensive scan/library system like in Prime, but this is great none-the-less.

Exactly! I really don't get Urus question. You think she's going to be bubbly and chipper all the time? I'm actually fine with the way she is portrayed. It's Adam Malkovich who I want to punch in the face. Then again, I've never been good with authority figures.

Nintendo should offer difficulty levels like most other developers nowadays. I'm not far enough in to properly judge the difficulty yet, but there's always nutters who like their games hard.
I'm still getting used to transitioning from 3rd person to first person. It would have been nice to be able to use missiles in 3rd, though.

Exactly. It's not what I was hoping for, but it's definitely fun to play.
I prefer Samus alone, and not being bossed around by someone else, but, hey, all the other games still exist.

Picked up Other M yesterday, and played for about an hour and a half. I just started Sector 1.
I actually haven't minded the cinema scenes. Even Samus' voice doesn't bother me like it seems to have done for others.
So far, the graphics are kinda weak, and nowhere near the Prime games. The music is almost non-existent. Hopefully, this changes the further I get in.
The control scheme is a little wonky, but pretty easy to get used to. Samus herself controls super smooth, and moves around a lot like she did in the old games. Actually, the game itself is very much a nostalgia trip. The look of Samus, the menus, etc.
I do not like the inclusion of the federation troops in the game. Adam Malkovich is particularly annoying. Samus taking orders from someone else just seems wrong.
The one boss battle was cool, and the general battles are well done. I AM liking it so far. Just need to play a bit more.

how easy it is to space pirate this game.

What the heck does this mean?

perhaps an Other M thread is in order...

I'm 35, and have come full circle from loving jrpgs and all their silliness, to barely being able to stomach it anymore. Good thing I no longer play games thinking I'm going to get anything deep or life-altering out of them. I just want to be entertained, and be respected by the developer. Poor writing and silly plot lines do not do this. Probably why I like the ME games so much. They actually respect the player as an intelligent human being.
Oddly enough, I'm liking FFXIII so far(5 hrs in). The story is stupid, but I've been roped in by the graphics, music, and great battle system.
Not an rpg, but reviews I've read of Other M say that the story stuff is not well done and brings down the whole experience. Way to go, Tecmo.

2141  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: August 31, 2010, 09:24:59 AM
Whats with all the people playing Suikoden games? I remember quite enjoying the first 2, liking the third well enough despite the odd battle system, skipping over 4, then getting bored by 5. I'd like to try Tierkris(sp?) someday, but it's on a handheld.

FFXIII - I keep looking for a way to customize the parties actions. Outside of paradigms, this isn't possible, is it? I liked the gambits from XII. I like being able to control when someone heals, attacks, etc. Vanille constantly curing when she doesn't need to is annoying. Then again, there's no MP, is there? This game is weird.
I'm digging it, though.
I suppose I'll take a break to play MOM, but I look forward to getting back to it.

Finished uncharted 2 on crushing. I never did that on the first game but considering how tough it was on hard it's probably harder than 2, I'll have to give it a try some day.
The first game was hard enough on the supposed "easy" mode! You people are nuts.

Weren't you the one saying that uncharted needs lock on? You totally suck at shooters dude :-)
Yes, I did say that. And, Yes, I DO suck at shooters. I had the same problems with InFamous.
I read that the new Metroid has lock-on and breathed a sigh of relief.

It was damn hot out yesterday so I decided to spend some time with Final Fantasy XIII. That Lake Bresha area is Gorgeous! I'm also now getting to play around with Paradigms and such. Got my ass kicked by some boss three times in a row until I started using them right. The battles in this are frickin' intense. I'm only 4 hours in, but I'm enjoying it so far.

I don't have Facebook.

OK, but I would humbly suggest answering someone when they ask you a question. You could have PMed me back, "I don't have Facebook." and that would have been fine.
Anyway. Games...
Reviews so far for Other M are a bit more subdued than I had hoped. We'll see.

Muramasa is odd, but fun. I was expecting a full on action/rpg, not a game with staged battles. Still, it's been fun so far. The graphics are beautiful, if a bit repetitive.

HEY MESH! You don't check your PMs or what?

2145  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: August 26, 2010, 10:54:59 AM
Played a bit more Mad World. made it to the cowboy boss at the end of area 2 and got my ass kicked.
Muramasa - What a beautiful game! Having fun with it so far. Making no sense of the story or characters, but that's not why I wanted to play this anyway.
My Wii is actually getting some action!
