FFXII - I'm loving this game so far, and I'm only 6 hours into it. I spent a good amount of time wandering the Estersand and the Giza Plains. Now I'm starting up the "sewer" dungeon, or whatever it's called. Can someone tell me when I get to start messing around with gambits? Even when I had Panello(sp?) I was unable to do so. Also, when battling, does your placement have any effect on damage? Seems to me that running around doesn't really do anything. This is really just ATB with pointless movement control. I still like it, though. It's fun.

I beat Okami with about 61 hours on the clock. Tons of stuff I never got to, like the wanted lists, misc. Dojo skills, etc. ect. WONderful game. Tried out Zelda: TP(GC) for about an hour. Lame beginning, but that is to be expected. I'll get back to this later. Now playing FFXII - Goddman this game is overwhelming! The first city is so huge and.....bustling! Lots of stuff to do and see. Hopefully, it retains a sense of linearity, though, or I will be in trouble. I hate games with TOO much to do and no true focus(PC rpgs...yuck) I AM impressed so far.

I hear ya on your frustration Dade. I've read so much fantasy/sci-fi over the years that I just dont know where to go for something truly GOOD anymore. I've read two Neil Gaiman books, Good Omens(with Pratchet), and Neverwhere. Both were quirky, throw away fun. Thats all. I honestly didn't get much more than that out of them. I prefer more serious reading. I've been tempted to start reading the Thomas Covenant books. Anyone with an opinion on these? I've heard a lot of good things. I'm now reading Dragons of the Dwarven Depths, and it has been tough so far. I used to think these two could write. I'm about 100 pages in , and this is pretty crappy stuff so far. Plus, all the typos are irritating me.

Over the Hedge = Godawful shit. that is all.
BTW, Din, I only ended up seeing the end of A Christmas Story this year, despite owning it. I was sorely lacking in Christmas "spirit"(whatever that is) this year and wasn't in the mood for much of anything.

Yeah, I saw the trailer through AICN a few days ago. I have very low expectations for this movie, and the trailer just solidifies them. Michael Bay is good for blowing stuff up, and thats about it. I DO appreciate the dark tone, though. It seems he is taking the property seriously.

Holy shit! Do these awards suck or what? Hell, most of the nominees suck. Seems Gamespot has a major hard-on for the 360. The music category is a joke for not including Okami, which has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a while. Everything else is just a bunch of mainstream bullshit. WTF? Dead Rising beating out Zelda and Okami?! This is why the Taliban hates us. ; - )

Okami - I am about to go to Oni Island. I was thinking of leaving the area to search for treasures and such(now that I have the cats paw technique), but I kinda just want to move the game along. 46 hours is long for an adventure game, and according to the map there is a lot more area to explore yet. I'm loving the game, but I've got FFXII and Zelda:TP waiting for me.

My wife gets home from work yesterday, walks up to me, and hands me a copy of Zelda for the GC! I was shocked. I had asked for it for Christmas, but I guess she decided not to wait. She bought it at target, but not before having to ask a sales clerk to get it out of the back. Too bad I won't be playing it for a LOOOONG time. Theres no way I can play Okami and Zelda back to back(way too similar), so I'll be playing FFXII inbetween. I may not get to Zelda until freakin' April!
Okami is a huge game. My next task is to go to the Dragonian domain.

Man, I feel stupid. In Okami, after doing the Emperor business and helping out the spaceship girl, I have been wandering aimlessly trying to figure out what to do. I check an FAQ this morning and find out that all I had to was use The Mist technique to get past the guards so I can see the queen Why didn't I try that one, when I had already tried other techniques? I have no idea. <---moron I love this game.

I'm surprised that Castlevania was so high on the list. As much as I have always loved Castlevania, I still consider it more of a series for "hardcore" gamers. I don't think I've ever seen a CV game on the bestsellers list. The top two are well-deserved but very predictable. I'd personally put Zelda first, but thats just because he's so much cooler than Mario.

Okami - I am now in Sei-Nai(sp?) city. It's odd, because the game felt like it should be done after defeating Orochi in the Moon cave. It was obviously nowhere near done(just check the map!) but it FELT like it. I am anxious to get into another dungeon or something. That's what I like the most about the game. Plus, I'm already at 30 hours, which is about where most adventure games are ending.

I think we all forget what the definition of a "game" is. Games are supposed to equal fun. The word "chore", or even "backlog", should never come into play(pun intended). If a game is not fun, don't play it. I stopped playing Suikoden V because I wasn't having fun. I am playing Okami now, which is a lot of fun. Then again, you have serious minded games like FFXII, which may not necessarily be "fun", but they are damn entertaining, and that is worth just as much. Nowadays I either play a game to completion before starting another, or stop playing for some reason(see above). I rarely buy a new game before finishing the one I'm playing. I never use the word Backlog in association with gaming. It makes me think of work. The day games become work is the day I stop playing them. I agree with CW, though. Reading a thread about a game "everyone" else is playing when you're still plodding trough a game that came out a year ago can be tough. I still read them, though. Masochistic, I guess.

Saw II - Most of this movie was godawful and made no sense whatsoever. I can't get the stupid code thing to work, so take heed that the rest is full of spoilers: Why wouldn't the idiots just work together? Why did the thug guy kill the black guy? just to get tThen they have the idiot girl putting her hands into the glass box. Are there people really this tupid in the world? Sure, the whole "explanation of events" at the end makes you feel as if the movie has a littler more going for it. Then we get the girl who is jigsaws "apprentice" or whatever you want to call her. Why even have her as part of the group? ugh. I've talked far too much about this stupid movie... I also just started watching LOST last night.
