Ninja Assassin - This was totally fun. The movie is just a series of action set pieces with some boring stuff stuck in between. The story is NOT why I wanted to see this, and the filmmakers know that. Surprisingly bloody, too. I really enjoyed it.

That's damn good for chiptune music, anyway. I can't see myself actually listening to that outside of the game, though.

Lawrence of Arabia - Movie dork that I am, I had never seen this until now. Damn, this thing was long. I watched it over two nights. It was quite epic, especially for a 60's movie. Beautifully filmed. I was(and remain) confused about Lawrence, though. Not at ALL was I was expecting. He's so....effeminate. Doesn't at all seem the leader type. Hard to believe all those Arabs would actually follow him. On the whole, I enjoyed the film, but it was far from perfect.

The Punisdher - hahahahahahahahahaha. It sucked

The Wolfman - rather boring. Nice to look at, though

Can I have friends even though I don't like boobs? I mean, there is nothing wrong with them. I've probably seem more irl boobs than most guys my age. As all my female friends seem to think it doesn't make me uncomfortable when they change in front of me.
Sounds like I want to be your friend, too! I'll bring my invisibility cloak. It'll be our secret.
Of course, the wife might wonder where I'm off to all the time. I'll just say I'm going fishing or camping or something like that. She'll totally buy it because I haven't done either of those things in over 20 years!

Yeah. Music tends to get talked about in the music forum. Whoda thunk it? lol. Just messing with ya.
I agree that the quality of the music can really have an effect on how much you like a game. bad music can bring a decent game down while great music can make an otherwise mediocre game into a better one.
I agree, for the most part about jrpgs having better music than Wrpgs. Mass Effect 1 & 2 are the rare exception.
2154  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: August 19, 2010, 10:53:49 AM
Finished the third Temeraire book. To put it plainly, it sucked. I am SO done with this series. The writing is poor, the plotting is poor, and the author sucks at writing any type of action scene. To top it all off, the endings of all three books are anti-climactic and feel horribly rushed. It's like someone told her she had two pages to wrap up what should have taken 30 pages.
Time to start reading the Elric stories. I've been looking forward to this for awhile.

And there's plenty of straight guys who find a beautiful female bottom downright irresistible and would do supposedly "gay" things to it all night long. I'm just sayin'...

Finally decided to get into Final Fantasy XIII. I'm digging it so far, but a few things bug me. The writing is horrendous! How many friggin' times do we need to hear Snow referred to as "The Hero"? Didn't someone(ANYONE!) think to MAYBE change up the dialog a bit? I don't get it. Then there's the ridiculous duo of Hope and Vanille. God, they are annoying. And that weird accent of hers...just bizarre.
I like Lightning, and Sazh is a great character so far. All the silly story BS is going in one ear and out the other, and that's just fine with me.
The graphics and music are damn good. The battles are super fast, if a bit boring. I suppose this will be remedied later on.
Overall positive so far. We'll see where it goes.

Music can work within the game structure and not be boring as hell. Look at the Sonic games. Castlevania. Metroid. Games with great, listenable music that fits perfectly within the game. That's what I want. Not every game has to have nothing but environmental sounds in a desperate bid to be realistic. Sure, rustling leaves and gurgling brooks are great for setting a tone, but they're also boring if that's all you ever hear. I think these developers sometimes forget that they're making a 20 hour game, not a 2 hour movie. Music can make all the difference in the world.

Yeah but you don't really see games like those anymore do you? Like it or not games are a lot like movies these days, they are always trying to evoke some kind of emotion, there's always a ton of dialogue and cutscenes that require atmospheric music. You can't just write a catchy tune and a slap it on a level untill the player finishes it. The music has changed along with game design I guess.
I know. I know. They don't call me the Dark Lord of Nostalgia for nothing. Ok, no one actually calls me that. But they should, dammit!
*Puts on his Skeleton Warriors OST*

Guess I'll just enjoy the rare game that actually DOES have a decent soundtrack. I just started getting into FFXIII, and I quite like the music.

2159  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mass Effect 2 coming to the PS3 on: August 17, 2010, 03:52:25 PM
Wait, there's people who own a PS3, but not a 360? Odd. I can see it the other way around, as the 360 came out first, and was cheaper. Some of you either have some amazing will power, or seriously deep pockets.

I don't get this comment...you're saying that people who don't buy both consoles are the ones with deep pockets?

Personally I have a PS3 and no 360, but I didn't even get the PS3 until it had been out for a couple of years.  There wasn't much on either system that interested me in the first few years.  Not to mention that the PS2 was still going very strong back then.

Right now if I were to get another console it would be a Wii.  But the thing that's limiting me is time, not money.  I have a hard enough time just keeping up with my backlog of PS3 games.  What do I need a whole new system for?

I thought I might be misunderstood.
My thinking is that if you only own a PS3, it means you either:
bought it when it first came out - very expensive(deep pockets)
or
just recently bought it when it went down in price - willpower
I'm actually impressed by those who held out on buying a a new system for so long despite being bombarded with constant news about all the great games for them.
Personally, I got a 360 when it went down to $199. Then I got a PS3 when it dropped last September. Seems the natural progression of things.
Anyway...
