I don't want my penis to look like a turtle neck. Circumcision for the win!
+1 to this.

In regards to the other responses...
Then doctors need to be punished, not patients. It is also a very case-specific thing. Obviously, eyebrow thickener is a luxury and should not be included. Duh.
But when a person has been suffering for several years with an affliction, and there is a  treatment that could help them, and the insurance company denies it because it's too expensive, it pisses me off. So they would rather I suffer and deal with continual doctor visits
looking for another solution, than pay for something now that could save them money in the long run. Or perhaps they hope I die quickly and save them all sorts of cash.
Jags.

Having dealt with numerous medical issues the past few years, I have wondered how this will affect me. I am fortunate in that I work for a good company, with whom I have had medical coverage with since I started here 10 years ago. I worry that if I were let go(this economy sucks for high end landscapers) and went looking for a new job with new insurance, that  I may not get in due to "pre-existing conditions" Hopefully this will not happen.
No matter what happens, though,  I am NOT happy with the current system. The insurance companies seem to be more in the business of "denial for profits" than the well-being of the insured. If a doctor asks for something to be done, it should be done. Not reviewed by some "panel" at an insurance company to determine if it's necessary or not. Total bullshit.
summary: United Healthcare sucks

I played all three of those, actually.

Paladins Quest - I liked the tone of this game. It just felt "darker" than other jrpgs I was playing at the time. Great graphics and music. I didn't much like the battle system, especially the magic using hp business. Hard game. never finished it.

Y's III - Had fun with this one. Great tunes.

Lagoon - I remember kinda liking this. Good music. Tough.

I think when the whole "great ride" glamour effect wears off and we can judge this game more realistically, it'll be a visually nice, but generally disappointing entry that came in on the wings of way too much hype.

As for standards; better have 'em somewhere above accepting crap. When they ask for $70+ a pop for a game with limited replayability and no multiplayer? They'd better get the lead out.
$70? All new games are $60 around here. Then they go on sale a month later for $50. Sometimes $40. This a Canada thing?
And for some of us replayability and multiplayer are not factors in whether a game is good or not. I NEVER replay games, and I have zero interest in multiplayer.

Mass Effect 2 - spending too much scanning planets. There's something almost "Zen" about doing it that I like.
Think I'll go find the Citadel next.
Fun game

Haven't bought the game yet, but I keep reading this thread.
The battle system sounds like it gets horribly complicated. I predict that I will play it halfway through, get my ass kicked by all sorts of monsters, then give up in frustration.
I like things simple, and this sounds anything but(at least the later chapters).
Plus I keep hearing about a "difficulty spike". Nothing scares me away faster than those two words.
I'll still pick it up, of course, but you guys have sufficiently dampened my enthusiasm.

I love both kinds as well. Had a blast with DMC4. I loved both GoW games so far, and anticipate loving the third one.
I honestly get confused by the idea of NOT liking these types of games. To me, this is the true essence of video gaming. Pure exhilaration and fun on a grand scale. You tell me that you don't like GoW, and I'm going to be looking at you funny, bub.

Went to Chicago this weekend.

I live in Chicago. If only I had known, you could have looked me up. Then again, I would never do something so gay as shop for plants with you.

Hey! Plant shopping is not "gay"! It is a perfectly hetero thing to do. As least for those us who are secure in their sexuality.
I live 40 miles South of Chicago. I'll go plant shopping with ya, Mesh! Oh wait. I don't really have room for any more. Cool cactus, btw.

as for gaming...
Mass Effect 2 - Loving it so far. Mordin is just too cool. I'm now doing the Archangel quest. DLed all the free stuff, and cked out the Normandy wreckage. Something creepy about that.
The battles are WAY more fun than they were in 1. I'm also noticing the improved graphics(style-wise as well) and how you can actual hear the music this time.

What really bothers me is how several reviewers have made a big deal about how BORING the game is until everything opens up. Like how they had to suffer through 20 hours of nothingness to get to the good stuff.  I don't buy this for a second. The battle system may take awhile to fully kick in, but I'm pretty sure everything else the game has to offer more than covers this supposed boredom.
I'm also surprised at the lack of commentary on the soundtrack. I guess some people just don't put as much importance on it as I do, but a great ST can practically MAKE a game for me. I can't wait to just hear the music for this, as I've read that it's fantastic.

I never understood this whole "easy type" business. Back when I originally played it, I found the game rather challenging. I'm all for a proper translation, but making the game harder does not make for greater appeal in my case.
2186  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XIII on: March 08, 2010, 12:14:40 PM
I think it makes sense to have a new release thread.
I'm pretty excited about this game, but will not be buying it tomorrow. I'll probably wait for it to go on sale in a few weeks, like most new releases do. I've got ME2 to play so the wait will be tolerable.
2187  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What version of FF XIII to get? on: March 08, 2010, 11:48:43 AM
You can't help but think critics are being unnecessarily tough on the game, but who knows? I won't know until I play it. I still have a feeling that I'm going to enjoy it more than some of these critics are. I'm just not that picky. Heck, I've enjoyed every single FF game I've ever played. Gimme some fancy graphics, a great soundtrack, a fun battle system, and a halfway decent story, and I'm happy. The linearity seems to be the kicker here, and I can't get myself to care about that. This may change after I play it, but I doubt it.

which is worse reviewers being to easy on FF or too hard? If you ask me they are typically too easy on them.
If you've enjoyed every FF game you've ever played then you've enjoyed quite a few linear JRPGs. Why is it all of a sudden "the kicker"?

It's not the kicker for ME. I meant that it seems to be the biggest problem for the reviewers. I have no problem with it...yet. We'll see after I play it.
2188  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What version of FF XIII to get? on: March 07, 2010, 03:15:39 PM
Still. It has to be admitted that the reviews are a bit of a downer. With a FF, you hope for 9's or 10's. To see it averaging 8's makes it seem so...normal. You can't help but think critics are being unnecessarily tough on the game, but who knows? I won't know until I play it. So I finally just beat Dragon Age
Code:
The battle with the ArchDemon was pretty intense. Damn cool dragon.
I survived the ordeal due to my "bargain" with Morrigan. I really just wanted some Morrigan action, so it all worked out fine. lol.
70 hours on the dot. Too damn long for me nowadays. I need 20 hour games, not 70.
Then we have the end credits that will not end! And that awful "war" song by 30 seconds to mars or whoever. That sucked. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that song, but it was totally wrong for this game.
Good game for the most part. Solid 8/10.
It's tempting to move right into playing FFXIII or GoW II, but I have ME2 to play now. The other two can at least wait until they go on sale.
2190  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Game Journal XX - Sharpened Pencil Midnight Bathouse on: March 02, 2010, 12:00:05 PM
Dragon Age - Why oh why will this game not end? It was long enough already without them tacking things on to extend it
Code:
I'm speaking of rescuing Queen Anora and going to Fort Drakon. Both pointless.
So I THINK that this Landsmeet thing is about to happen now. We'll see how it goes.
I'm around 65 hrs with my character at lvl 18.
Too many good games coming. I need to end this.

sidenote: Bought a 32" 720 Samsung LCD for the living room so now all my systems are hooked up to quality tvs(The 360 and PS3 are on a 42" 1080 Sharp).
I was afraid the Wii might look bad, but I think it looks really good. I DID buy the component cables for it, so maybe that's helping.

Hey just so you know, the new TV models are in the process of coming out (some are already out, some are not).  If I were you, I'd take back the Samsung and wait a few weeks (possibly less) and pick up the new 2010 model.  Chances are it'll look better and be cheaper.

The component cables do help as well

I am fully aware that the new models are coming out. This why the old ones were on sale.  I'm loving the one I got and wouldn't dream of taking it back for a difference I probably wouldn't notice anyway.
It's way better than the one I had, and that's what really matters.

As for my gaming...

Dragon Age - WOW. Some heavy decisions to make last night. I am not happy with the outcome so far
Code:
Alistair left me!
, and may have to load up the save again later to see how things could turn out different.
Back in Redcliffe village now.
