2191  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XIII on: March 08, 2010, 12:14:40 PM
I think it makes sense to have a new release thread.
I'm pretty excited about this game, but will not be buying it tomorrow. I'll probably wait for it to go on sale in a few weeks, like most new releases do. I've got ME2 to play so the wait will be tolerable.
2192  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What version of FF XIII to get? on: March 08, 2010, 11:48:43 AM
You can't help but think critics are being unnecessarily tough on the game, but who knows? I won't know until I play it. I still have a feeling that I'm going to enjoy it more than some of these critics are. I'm just not that picky. Heck, I've enjoyed every single FF game I've ever played. Gimme some fancy graphics, a great soundtrack, a fun battle system, and a halfway decent story, and I'm happy. The linearity seems to be the kicker here, and I can't get myself to care about that. This may change after I play it, but I doubt it.

which is worse reviewers being to easy on FF or too hard? If you ask me they are typically too easy on them.
If you've enjoyed every FF game you've ever played then you've enjoyed quite a few linear JRPGs. Why is it all of a sudden "the kicker"?

It's not the kicker for ME. I meant that it seems to be the biggest problem for the reviewers. I have no problem with it...yet. We'll see after I play it.

Still. It has to be admitted that the reviews are a bit of a downer. With a FF, you hope for 9's or 10's. To see it averaging 8's makes it seem so...normal. So I finally just beat Dragon Age
Code:
The battle with the ArchDemon was pretty intense. Damn cool dragon.
I survived the ordeal due to my "bargain" with Morrigan. I really just wanted some Morrigan action, so it all worked out fine. lol.
70 hours on the dot. Too damn long for me nowadays. I need 20 hour games, not 70.
Then we have the end credits that will not end! And that awful "war" song by 30 seconds to mars or whoever. That sucked. I'm not sure what they were thinking with that song, but it was totally wrong for this game.
Good game for the most part. Solid 8/10.
It's tempting to move right into playing FFXIII or GoW II, but I have ME2 to play now. The other two can at least wait until they go on sale.
2195  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Game Journal XX - Sharpened Pencil Midnight Bathouse on: March 02, 2010, 12:00:05 PM
Dragon Age - Why oh why will this game not end? It was long enough already without them tacking things on to extend it
Code:
I'm speaking of rescuing Queen Anora and going to Fort Drakon. Both pointless.
So I THINK that this Landsmeet thing is about to happen now. We'll see how it goes.
I'm around 65 hrs with my character at lvl 18.
Too many good games coming. I need to end this.

sidenote: Bought a 32" 720 Samsung LCD for the living room so now all my systems are hooked up to quality tvs(The 360 and PS3 are on a 42" 1080 Sharp).
I was afraid the Wii might look bad, but I think it looks really good. I DID buy the component cables for it, so maybe that's helping.

Hey just so you know, the new TV models are in the process of coming out (some are already out, some are not).  If I were you, I'd take back the Samsung and wait a few weeks (possibly less) and pick up the new 2010 model.  Chances are it'll look better and be cheaper.

The component cables do help as well

I am fully aware that the new models are coming out. This why the old ones were on sale.  I'm loving the one I got and wouldn't dream of taking it back for a difference I probably wouldn't notice anyway.
It's way better than the one I had, and that's what really matters.

As for my gaming...

Dragon Age - WOW. Some heavy decisions to make last night. I am not happy with the outcome so far
Code:
Alistair left me!
, and may have to load up the save again later to see how things could turn out different.
Back in Redcliffe village now.

2197  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: New Credit Card Laws effective Monday on: March 01, 2010, 09:52:22 AM
The obvious solution is to get rid of your credit cards.

Unanticipated medical bills say this is not an option.

I have one credit card I've had for a very long time. I never use it to buy anything. That's what real money is for. It is simply there for emergencies and unforeseen expenses. Unfortunately, I have ongoing health issues which have forced me to use it.

In essence: Credit card companies + Health insurance companies = You will lose.

p.s. why is Darksiders being mentioned? Didn't that come out a few months ago? Heck, I think that game looks pretty cool, but it'll be a bargain purchase in 6 months.

The demo went live at the same time, they're the only 2 PS3 demos this week actually.

Wow. I though DS came out for both systems at the same time. Guess I wasn't paying close enough attention.

The new trailers are just unbelievable. How the hell can the game look so good? I can't believe what I'm seeing.
Seriously. This looks like the stuff we were actually hoping for when this generation started. The definition of epic. Here's hoping that the game plays as well as it looks.

GOW3 DEMO ON PSN BITCHES!!!!!
Yes! I'll DL it tonight.
RPGs can suck it when this comes out.

Gen, the key differences between your post and Primes is that he is referring to the end of the game. NEVER talk about the end in any capacity unless it is spoiler coded. Hell, just telling me that the end sucks is a spoiler. Not cool.
2201  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Resonance of Fate Topic on: February 23, 2010, 03:28:04 PM
This game warrants that I wait for a multitude of reviews before even giving it a second glance. It is utterly assinine to release this when they are, and makes me think they have little confidence in it.
The plethora of difficulty settings is appealing. Not too many rpgs even give you a choice.
The battle system sounds a bit complicated, and I have zero interest in outfitting my characters.
I am VERY concerned about the lack of quality dungeons. This is not a minor issue, considering the amount of time spent in them.
I like the whole steampunk motif, but it does look an awfol lot like a Wrpg now. lol.
This a total wait and see for me. Probably a bargain buy a year from now.
2202  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What feature in one/few RPGs should they all have? on: February 23, 2010, 03:16:38 PM
Yeah, Prime, if you could NOT spoil a game that just came out a month ago?
That would be great.
2203  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Game Journal XX - Sharpened Pencil Midnight Bathouse on: February 22, 2010, 09:47:05 AM
Dragon Age - Finished up the Orzammar scenario and am now doing misc. things before I go back to Arl Eoman and call the landsmeet. I imagine I am nearing the end.
Code:
I went after Flemeth for Morrigan and killed her the second time I fought her. I was totally unprepared for a dragon battle the first time. My approval rating with Morrigan is pretty high and I'd like to see if I can "seal the deal". Do I just shower her with more gifts, or is there a better way?
I really dig Ohgren. He kicks ass in battle and is actually kinda funny.
2204  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What feature in one/few RPGs should they all have? on: February 21, 2010, 05:37:21 PM
I totally dug the Gambits in FF12. I did spend a lot of time setting them up, but I felt like that was all part of the strategy. It's basically the same in Dragon Age with the tactics. I spend a lot of time setting them up, but it's oddly rewarding.
All rpgs should have auto-level up on the characters you don't use. heaven forbid the game forces you to use a character in the last level that you haven't touched since the beginning of the game.
Better yet, all games should have a Suikoden style exp system.
2205  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: What version of FF XIII to get? on: February 18, 2010, 03:55:10 PM
I don't care, either way it'll be a big hit in the awesome department.
And THAT is what counts! I want me some Awesome.
