2206  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: I have a PS3 (finally). Reccomend me stuff!!!!!! on: July 06, 2010, 11:39:39 AM
CDFN has mentioned in a few threads that Uncharted 2 is platinum. I checked Amazon and they are selling it for $44 or whatever. Platinum to me means $20-30. I figured it would drop to that range after a year. I loved the first one, and will play the second eventually.
Flower is fun for the +/- 4 hours it lasts.
Wipeout HD looks amazing and is fun to play in spurts. Way too hard for me, though.
Valkyria is as great as everyone says it is, but no one seems to mention how hard it is. The battles can get quite difficult pretty early on.
MGS4 is fun for awhile, then just gets so frickin' ridiculous.

Beat God of War III last night. I didn't think I was that close to the end, but all of a sudden, there it was. I really enjoyed the game, but I think I liked II better. All the games have been fun, though.

I can now play either FFXIII or InFamous. I figure I'll play XIII for awhile, just to get that out of my system. Who knows? I might love it. Looking forward to playing InFamous, though.

GoWIII - The Aphrodite scene was "amusing", especially with my wife watching next to me. She commented that the whole thing was pretty "sad" and obviously made by men without a proper "outlet", if you know what I mean. I don't remember the similar scenes from the first two.
after that:
Code:
The battle with Chronos was bizarre. I died numerous times during the different stages of it, before figuring out what to do. Still damn epic, though. Then I went back to the Smith guy, whooped his ass, and now have my bad ass electricity whips. Look forward to using them
I like how dying doesn't send you back too far. The checkpoints are almost too reasonable. Makes dying just a minor annoyance. Considering how often I die, this is a good thing.

2209  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Toy Story 3 on: June 28, 2010, 08:38:20 AM
I had to use all my man power to stop from crying at the ending so the girl I was on a date with wouldn't think I was some big blubbering pussy.

Why is it that a man crying is seen as a sign of weakness? I've read all over(including my own review!) about men holding back the tears the ending of this movie brings out. If I was watching this at home by myself, I would just let 'em fly. In a theater full of people you could almost feel the suction of all the men trying desperately not to cry.
Do women really see it as a sign of weakness? Would she really think you are a "big blubbering pussy" if she saw a few tears roll down?
So few movies elicit such emotional reactions nowadays, that we should embrace the ones that do. We live in a sad society that doesn't allow us to be ourselves.

From my trip today to the Milwaukee Zoo..sadly the quality was not as good as I had hoped, but the fact that I managed to capture the moment was pretty damn cool.  I have quite a few more, but you will have to add me as a facebook friend to see the full thing :P
so how does one add you as a FB friend? I'm a bit of a photo nut and would love to see your pics. I post up all sorts of pics on my own FB page.

God of War III keeps getting more gross and interesting. I killed a titan (weird battle, but cool), got it on with Aphrodite, and got two weapons (the arms and the whip) ..oh and Hermes' boots. Maybe some other stuff.
Whoa! No fair! You're ahead of me! I need to get some serious game on today. I was about to "get it on" with Aphrodite Friday night when the freaking power went out all of a sudden. Weird.
2212  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: June 26, 2010, 10:46:39 AM
Playing Chrono Cross and got pretty far.
I chose the path that ignores Kid after she saves you (giving you Leena and Poshul) and the path that doesn't save her from her illness (to get Glenn and less relevant people).  I'm a cruel sunava-bitch.   Ironically, ignoring the ladies plea for help rewards good...rewards.

I did the Masa/Mastermune sidequest - and the game has since been a breeze.

Choosing to save Kid nets you Razzy who's required for one of the game's two triple techs.

Choosing to let Kid save herself nets you Glenn who's required for the other half of Serge's only Dual Tech. And eventually he'll dual wield a pair of awesome swords.

On new game plus switch Serge/Lynx with Dual-Wielding Glenn for extra appropriate-ness (since you can't bring him otherwise which is ridiculous in my opinion).
Blah blah blah. Game reasoning aside, Dice is awesome for doing anything to ignore/harm Kid. I hated Kid just for being called Kid. Stupidest name ever.

I with most of you folks. This really looks fantastic. I don't get excited about much nowadays, but I'm all over this game.
2214  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The 3rd Birthday on: June 25, 2010, 05:00:27 PM
Parasite Eve 2 is basically Resident Evil +.
It has more weapons, more customization, more enemies, more skills, more environments, the like.
This sounds good on paper, but the problem with this is the "more enemies" part. Parasite Eve 2 uses the Resident Evil control scheme. In the earlier REs, enemies are easy to avoid and dodge, not so much in PE2, since they are faster and have a wider variety of attack types.  The best part is that the game is actually challenging, especially on the higher difficulty levels.

That said, I love PE2 despite its flaws, but I'm also a huge early-RE fan. This definitely doesn't look PE2-ish.

As for why it's called The Third Birthday
Code:
The ending you get at the end of Parasite Eve isn't the "canon" ending.  You need to reach the top of the Chrysler
building to get it.  At the end of the Chrysler building, Aya's Mitochondrial powers weaken and go partially dormant from
lack  of use, only to reawaken in PE2.  That's why there are scenes in PE2 with Aya causing spontaneous combustion,
something only Eve could do in PE1.  You'll notice during the scene before the game turns to "Night" that Aya goes into
her "Liberation" form,  the final skill in first Parasite Eve and what would also be the equivalent of her being overtaken like
Melissa Pierce, but controlling herself rather than letting it control her.

Movie related, what I'm talking about is at 2:20

This one is better quality and doesn't glitch up like the above, but you have to wait until 9:00 or so to see it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TC1BGwEwyU

I'm assuming at the end of PE2 Aya's powers slowly go dormant again since she doesn't use them.
"The Third Birthday" means that they are going to be necessary for a third time.

Also, since someone asked yes, she is completely human.  It's her mtDNA that was altered.

Forgive me for taking this further than it needs to go, but that explanation still doesn't cover the "birthday" angle. Why couldn't they subtitle it something a bit more mature sounding, like what I said in my previous post. For a series that tends to play out on the darker side of things the name just sounds silly to me. Are they changing it for US release?
Granted, I don't even have a psp, so all this means nothing to me. I was just surprised that no had said anything about the stupid subtitle.
And No, Faded, the name would not affect my buying decision. If the game is good, I would buy it regardless.
2215  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The 3rd Birthday on: June 25, 2010, 11:42:20 AM
So why is this called The 3rd Birthday? Name sounds kinda stupid to me.

Maaaaaaybe you should read the first post.

The Overdive system emerges as a means of opposition, but only one viable candidate exists Aya Brea. A gift as she awakens from a lost past on this, the occasion of her third birth.

This is my most anticipated game out of E3. I can't wait to see more game play.
Got me. Whats this third birth business? Is she not human? I really don't know much about these games outside of playing the first one for a couple hours.
Regardless, the name sounds stupid and takes away from what looks like a cool game. Only a Japanese developer would give a subtitle like that. a Western developer would call it "re-awakening" or something cool like that.

That Hades battle was pretty cool, though. Plus I love the Claws of Hades.
I am doing the whole Flame of Olympus business. Slightly annoyed by the musical game-like button pressing nonsense.

I listened to a portion of the first one, and intend to listen to the rest, but I had one gripe. Please take the time to mention who you are on the boards. I know some of you by your names, but not all of you. Like just in the first episode...Who is Rob? What is his name on the boards? It would make us feel like we know you guys better.

according to this, his "nickname" is PaleRobbie
each staff member has a profile like that and can be found with this thing
Wow. Never heard of this guy. Just started in May? So why is the new guy in charge of the podcast? Or is that why he was hired? I don't recall ever seeing a PaleRobbie on the boards. Odd.

2220  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What you like/hate in the opposite sex!! on: June 22, 2010, 12:06:53 PM
speaking of accents....
This here is a FINE example of what I like in the opposite sex:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?aid=99757&id=105528145968&ref=pb
A tad too skinny, but I think I could deal with that.

On the whole, I like dark-haired, curvy girls with or without glasses(but they are preferred). When I say curvy I don't mean skinny girls who think they have curves because they barely eat and their bones stick out. I've heard numerous guys refer to Jessica Alba as curvy. Um, NO. She's skinny  I mean a full -figured woman. Not out of shape or anything, but plenty to hold on to. A fine booty is a must. I guess you could say I like the Kim Kardashian(sp?) type body, but with someone else in it. I also prefer a girl without a tan. I like pale skin. Fake tans(or even real ones) totally turn me off.
Physical traits aside, I want someone I can talk to. After we see a movie, I want to discuss it, not just move right on to dinner without another word.
I'm big on nature, so a girl has to like to bike and hike(that sounded weird), and tolerate my gardening addiction.
Now some not so PC honesty. I like a woman who cooks and cleans, and a lot of those other old-fashioned things. I'm not a big fan of cooking, so she has to be able to bake some bread and make a kick ass dinner.
I'm a bit of a cleaning freak, so I can take care of that, but a girl who is a slob is a total turnoff.
If I see a woman wearing a sports jersey I run away as fast as I can. Women + sports = yick. I have no problem with her actually DOING sports. But if all she wants to do is watch the Cubs or the Bears, I'm am so outta there.
Finallly, no religion. pretty self-explanatory.

I've been married to a woman who embodies most of these traits for over 11 years now. She was a friend of a friend. The first time I met her I was playing Mario Kart with a buddy in my parents basement. She said she loved Mario Kart. Total love connection. Actually, it took several dates and a lot of talking, but we clicked.
I'm pretty sure there's a few other people around here with "success" stories, if you want to call it that. I'm not the only married one. I know Pat(Ramza) is married and has kids.
