2221  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Finally, a game worth dusting my Wii off for... on: April 09, 2010, 02:47:22 PM
Eusis beat me to it. Unless the combat is unavoidable it is part of the game, and must be factored into any review/score. Clunky combat CAN ruin a game for some people.
I'm still intrigued by the game, and may pick it up if it ever goes cheap. Friggin' Wii games seem to take WAY longer to go down in price than 360/PS3 games, though. If ever. Case in point: Muramasa looks like fun, but I refuse to pay full price for it. Drop the price and I'll buy it.
Um...Fei? The majority of ANY systems games are mediocre or crap. The problem with the Wii is that some of us don't feel like wading through all the nonsense exercise/cooking/whatever games to find the rare gem. Heck, a lot of them I don't ever even hear about until they're already out and beyond.
Good Wii games exist. No one denies this. Good Wii games that appeal to ME are few and far between.
I watched my son play SMG. I LOVE the engine that game uses, but Mario just doesn't appeal to me. Someone should use that games engine to make a cool action/adventure game with a bit more mature subject matter. I'm not saying everything has to be blood and gore. I'd just like something that doesn't have me flying around in a bee costume or talking to penguins.

I hate to turn this into another anti-Wii thread, but I agree with Tenchis "dust off my Wii" statement. I've had for a few years now and NEVER play it, except for the occasional family Mario Kart match up.
I had high hopes for Fragile, but all the mediocre reviews turned me off.
I didn't play the first SMG, so I don't care much about the second.
I have high hopes for Other M, but am keeping them in check.
I still want to get the MP trilogy, but it's not a priority.
I may try out this Red Steel 2 some day, but not until it goes cheap.
There are very few games on the Wii that appeal to me, hence the dust. I hate having to wait for Nintendo to put out AAA titles.
Whatever. Back to kick ass stuff like ME2 and GoW III.

My wife bought me God of War III for Easter, even though I told her not to. I just played the first 15 minutes or so, but am VERY impressed so far. The scale is just breathtaking. I look forward to playing this after I finish ME2.
Speaking of ME2 - I just recruited Samara. I don't like her character design at all. I expected someone a bit more...conservative? wizened? Not sure. Just not what I got. Look forward to using her in battle, though.
Next up is to find Thane, and do Miranda's side mission. Probably do some more planet scanning as well. Good times.

2224  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: April 01, 2010, 10:53:57 AM
Mass Effect 2 - OK, so now I'm getting tired of the scanning business. I bought the upgrade, but it's still a pretty slow process.
Had to pop in disc 2 last night. I only have 20gb hard drive, so disc 2 is not installed. Hope it runs ok off the disc.
I'm now looking for the second wave of party members, and have a few side quests from Miranda and Jacob to do.
I'm in Illium now. Love the backgrounds. I've always loved the Futuristic looking cities. Granted, the whole ME universe is futuristic by default, but they've done a great job adding individuality and artistry this time out.

I finally got around to finishing up ME2 today. What a great game. Easy as hell though.

I'm playing the game on "easy" mode, or whatever it's called, and am finding it still kind of challenging in spots. I generally suck at games that have me shooting at things without a lock on, so I pretty much HAVE to play on easy or not play at all.

Mass Effect 2 - I am SO loving this game. It is just so much more polished and well put together than the first one. Everything is bigger and better. Except for the scaled down Citadel, which I actually don't mind too much.
I just finished the Krogan warlord quest.
Code:
I am informed that the Illusive man wants to see me, so I go do that. I didn't expect to get sent right into the next area! I didn't do anything with the Krogan yet! Damn. So now I'm on a new planet, with Collectors attacking it, and Ashley around somewhere. Should be fun
I am already convinced that no other game I play this year will be better than this. No sense in hurrying through.

You fucking assholes.  I wanted my WHARRGARBL to be political, not biological.  I hope and pray that you all lose your dicks in freak gardening accidents.
This is actually a distinct possibility for me. I'll be sure to post all about it when it happens.

I don't want my penis to look like a turtle neck. Circumcision for the win!
+1 to this.

I seriously hope you're kidding.

I personally don't like the way they look. Why would I be kidding?
I don't either. Nor does my wife. Why would I be kidding?
2228  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Health Care WHARRGARBL Topic on: March 23, 2010, 04:28:12 PM
And another thing!
; - )

Something needs to be done about this whole in or out of network bullshit.  I should be able to go to whatever doctor I want to without having to worry about him or her being in-network.  I'm sure it somehow makes perfect sense to a bunch of suits in a board room, but to the common folk it just looks like another way to make a buck off the unwary masses.

If anyone would have asked me about health care 5 years ago, I wouldn't have even had an opinion. Unfortunately now it is a big part of my life. Sucks.

In regards to the other responses...
Then doctors need to be punished, not patients. It is also a very case-specific thing. Obviously, eyebrow thickener is a luxury and should not be included. Duh.
But when a person has been suffering for several years with an affliction, and there is a  treatment that could help them, and the insurance company denies it because it's too expensive, it pisses me off. So they would rather I suffer and deal with continual doctor visits
looking for another solution, than pay for something now that could save them money in the long run. Or perhaps they hope I die quickly and save them all sorts of cash.
Jags.
2230  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Health Care WHARRGARBL Topic on: March 23, 2010, 11:17:15 AM
Having dealt with numerous medical issues the past few years, I have wondered how this will affect me. I am fortunate in that I work for a good company, with whom I have had medical coverage with since I started here 10 years ago. I worry that if I were let go(this economy sucks for high end landscapers) and went looking for a new job with new insurance, that  I may not get in due to "pre-existing conditions" Hopefully this will not happen.
No matter what happens, though,  I am NOT happy with the current system. The insurance companies seem to be more in the business of "denial for profits" than the well-being of the insured. If a doctor asks for something to be done, it should be done. Not reviewed by some "panel" at an insurance company to determine if it's necessary or not. Total bullshit.
summary: United Healthcare sucks
2231  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Old SNES games on: March 22, 2010, 10:50:05 AM
I played all three of those, actually.

Paladins Quest - I liked the tone of this game. It just felt "darker" than other jrpgs I was playing at the time. Great graphics and music. I didn't much like the battle system, especially the magic using hp business. Hard game. never finished it.

Y's III - Had fun with this one. Great tunes.

Lagoon - I remember kinda liking this. Good music. Tough.
2232  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XIII on: March 22, 2010, 10:28:39 AM
I think when the whole "great ride" glamour effect wears off and we can judge this game more realistically, it'll be a visually nice, but generally disappointing entry that came in on the wings of way too much hype.

As for standards; better have 'em somewhere above accepting crap. When they ask for $70+ a pop for a game with limited replayability and no multiplayer? They'd better get the lead out.
$70? All new games are $60 around here. Then they go on sale a month later for $50. Sometimes $40. This a Canada thing?
And for some of us replayability and multiplayer are not factors in whether a game is good or not. I NEVER replay games, and I have zero interest in multiplayer.
2233  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Super RPGFan Game Journal IV - The New Warriors: The Revenge The Movie The Game on: March 19, 2010, 04:46:51 PM
Mass Effect 2 - spending too much scanning planets. There's something almost "Zen" about doing it that I like.
Think I'll go find the Citadel next.
Fun game
2234  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: FINAL FANTASY XIII on: March 19, 2010, 04:42:51 PM
Haven't bought the game yet, but I keep reading this thread.
The battle system sounds like it gets horribly complicated. I predict that I will play it halfway through, get my ass kicked by all sorts of monsters, then give up in frustration.
I like things simple, and this sounds anything but(at least the later chapters).
Plus I keep hearing about a "difficulty spike". Nothing scares me away faster than those two words.
I'll still pick it up, of course, but you guys have sufficiently dampened my enthusiasm.
2235  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: God of war III on: March 15, 2010, 03:55:17 PM
I love both kinds as well. Had a blast with DMC4. I loved both GoW games so far, and anticipate loving the third one.
I honestly get confused by the idea of NOT liking these types of games. To me, this is the true essence of video gaming. Pure exhilaration and fun on a grand scale. You tell me that you don't like GoW, and I'm going to be looking at you funny, bub.
