2266  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan Game Journal XX - Sharpened Pencil Midnight Bathouse on: September 11, 2009, 08:56:03 AM
So I decided to play the first part of FF: TAY. After playing so many action-based games I wanted to play something more traditional. Plus, its short!
I'm actually rather impressed so far. I got my ass kicked a couple times by the beholder thing with the countdown spell before actually implementing some strategy into the mix. Beat it easy after that.
The random encounter rate is ridiculous, but that's to be expected I guess.
Code:
I now have just Ceodore after the castle invasion. Biggs and Wedge are dead! Cid is off with Rosa! Rydia was sent off somewhere to escape death! Whats up with Kain?
I am...intrigued.

I don't get the "I can move around with my DS!" argument. Anytime that I've played something on it I was just sitting on the couch. Who moves all over when they're gaming anyway? Odd.

Because Fire Emblem is on my GBA, I don't have to stop playing if I get hungry and want to cook something, if I have to use the facilities, if I want to watch something on TV, and any number of other things.  I can just take it with me.  If somebody is making a lot of noise in one room, I can move to the next.  If I suddenly feel like laying down, I can go in my room and sprawl on the bed without having to turn off my game.  There are a lot of reasons for wanting to move around while playing a game.

I like my games to look great, sound great, play great, and to make me say "wow, that was awesome" every now and then. DS games, no matter what it is, do not qualify.

I'm completely the opposite of you; there are times when I'll be playing something on my console and just think "I could be X on my DS right now" because it was genuinely more fun or interesting.  Honestly I think you just need to play different handheld games, because apparently you're just playing the bad ones or something.
Gen, I'm thinking we just don't agree on things. Plain as that. lol
Ya see, I only start gaming when I know there won't be any distractions. Generally after the family has gone to bed, and I can play in peace. No moving required(Unless I'm playing the Wii....which I will...eventually...when a good game comes out...ouch!)
Ever since I hooked up the 360 to my HD TV and surround system and saw Dead Space in all it's glory(and mass Effect, Gears, Fable II, etc), it has become very hard to play games on a 2.5"(+/-) screen (x 2!)
I'm not saying the games aren't great or anything. I'm just in a fireworks kinda mood, ya know?
It's like asking if I would rather watch a movie on a giant theater screen or at home on a 13" tv. The movie is great regardless of the viewing medium, but I sure as hell am going with the more bombastic experience.

I just can't get myself to play handheld games anymore. I bought a few games for the DS but hardly touched them.
Playing a game on a handheld just doesn't feel the same to me. I feel like I'm wasting my time, and that I should be playing a "real" game on a console. I know this sounds silly, but that's how it is.

No, you could never replicate something like Mass Effect on the DS. The epic scope alone would be impossible. The music was awesome and very cinematic. DS tunes couldn't come close. etc. etc.
I know some of the things I say sound superficial, but that's just where I am now when it comes to gaming.
2269  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: New 2-D Sonic game from Sega on: September 10, 2009, 03:19:59 PM
I enjoyed Sonic 1 and 2 on the Gen. Played them both endlessly. Perfect mix of great graphics, music, and simple game play. I liked Sonic CD also, but I played the japanese version first so I was appalled when the US one had changed the soundtrack. I also had a lot of fun with Sonic Adventure on the DC.
It was never all about the speed with me. I explored those dang levels.
I have zero hopes for any return to past glory.

Beat Devil May Cry 4. I had a blast with the game, despite the overuse of bosses and repeating levels. Tons of fun.

I'm really not sure about what to play next. I've got Tales of Vesperia to play, but I'm not sure I'm in the mood for another goofy jrpg.
Ditto for Lost Odyssey
Maybe I'll play FF: TAY

I WANT to pick up a PS3 and play some of those games. Soon enough...

What the hell is that? Some lame attempt at comedy? Satire? I'm confused.
I used to love the GIA.
2272  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: God of War I and II Blu-ray compilation for the PS3 on: September 03, 2009, 08:54:16 AM
Didn't pretty much everyone on the face of the earth own a PS2? And wouldn't those who really wanted to play GoW I & II have already done so? I mean, seriously, how many people are getting PS3s that never had a PS2? That can't possibly be that high of a #. Plus, these 2 were pretty amazing looking when I played them. I see no reason to spend $40 just so they can look a bit more amazing.

...and I have a job back home lined up for me in the summer. It gets me about 3k a year.
Mesh wins the thread!

OK, seriously, you are one bizarre fellow. I mean that in a nice way! I always enjoy your posts, even if I only understand half of what you are talking about. You need to be writing a column for a newspaper/website/somebody.

Other M looks like the Metroid game I was hoping for prior to the Prime games. It better be awesome.
2275  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy on: September 01, 2009, 08:44:02 PM
Eusis just said they made the games easier.

More specificallly the GameCube difficulties were made Veteran, while Normal is a new, easier mode. Possibly TOO easy so far in the case of MP1, I'll probably just replay that on Veteran.
You just sold me on getting it. Ok, I was going to anyway, but the thought of actually maybe possibly finishing a Metroid game is exciting! (Wait, I did beat Zero mission)

I agree with you on doctors, my opinions have changed so much, if you don't fit the typical criteria, I find they have a hard time thinking outside the box.

Some docs just seem like shills for the drug companies. No, I do not want to try yet another medication that will not work. They just want to move you along to get to the next one. Or so it seems.

All I want is to wake up and feel good in the morning and have the energy and ability to do the things I want to do.

Exactly! I have good and bad days, but to just be done with it all would be so awesome.
2277  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Do you hate your life? on: September 01, 2009, 11:47:37 AM
No, I most definitely do not hate my life. I may hate certain circumstances I have found myself in, but never my life in general.
I have a wife of ten years that, dare I say, I am more in love with now than ever. I have an 8 year old son who is a great kid and doesn't cause any trouble. I have a good job doing something I love, that also pays me well enough to be comfortable.
What has been keeping me from enjoying my life more the past couple years is an endless string of health problems. I have been back and forth to so many doctors these past two years, it is unreal. The frustrating thing is that no one can figure out whats wrong with me. I feel like I belong on that Mystery Diagnosis show that my wife watches. I've had countless blood tests, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds, scopes up and down. Plus numerous prescriptions. None of it has solved anything.
My opinion on doctors has gone so downhill through all this.
It sucks knowing there is something wrong with you, but not knowing what it is or how to fix it.
Anyway...
Thanks for giving me a place to talk about it. The only one I discuss these things with is my wife. The rest of my family doesn't even know.
Thanks also to everyone above for contributing. It's amazing how you forget(or just don't consider) that everyone has a real life outside of the Fan.

I think he was talking about Ion. Ion is male, but everything he does and says contradicts this.
Nope. Not talking about Ion. Although, he is perfect for this conversation. Thought he was a girl for awhile there.
2279  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy on: September 01, 2009, 09:55:02 AM
I really wish these games had some sort of easy or casual mode for them. I played both 1 and 2, but only made it about 2/3rd through until having to stop due to difficulty. I just want to enjoy the gameplay, music, graphics, etc. without getting my ass kicked.
2280  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: God of War I and II Blu-ray compilation for the PS3 on: September 01, 2009, 09:49:15 AM
I freaking loved these games, but I think this release is pointless. At least for someone who has already played through them. Now, if they included Chains of Olympus...THEN I would be all over it. I refuse to buy a psp for one or two games.
