2266  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: God of War I and II Blu-ray compilation for the PS3 on: November 09, 2009, 09:03:42 AM
I still think this whole thing is pointless. Like buying the same movie on Blu-Ray that you've owned on dvd for years. It's the SAME movie/game! Sure, it looks a little sharper, but is that really, honestly worth buying again?
I still contend that anyone who wanted to play GoW I & II would have already played them on a PS2. If you, for some bizarre reason, didn't own a PS2, then you probably aren't a gamer. Go home, grandma.
Then we have those who DID play it on a PS2 and for some reason are still interested in this. Must be nice having so much extra time on your hands. All sorts of great games out there, and you want to re-play the GoWs because they might look a little better on an HDtv? Hell, these games looked incredible when they first came out.
so, um, yeah....
*takes a chill pill*

Same reaction as Prime. Why would they even consider bringing back the Ocean King Temple? Even a "improved" version?
I also agree with Dice in that this has to be amazing awesome to even get some interest out of me. So far it looks like Blah. The whole trains thing makes me think they're shooting for the 5 year old demo.

I also recall the music being horrible and repetitive. Every dungeon pretty much had the same boring bgm. NOT cool.
Yeah, I pretty much wrote this off right after it was announced.

2268  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age: Origins on: November 07, 2009, 11:34:58 AM
I actually agree with Prime. I am VERY interested in how the game looks and FEELS. The screen shots really haven't done much for me. It all looks so...generic. In my own interests, I have grown beyond generic fantasy. Hopefully this pans out to be more than that.
I enjoyed Mass Effect for the sci-fi setting, action-oriented battles, and great dialog. The ridiculous amount of time spent rendering the individual characters was lost on me. I would rather have had that time spent on making the environments more organic and/or artistic. Anyway...My enjoyment of ME is the reason I am interested in Dragon Age. I'll wait and see what you all think before buying it. Then again, a lot of people liked Oblivion, and those types of games bore me to death, so...we'll see.

I almost WANT to die when her godawful music comes on the radio. Can't change the station fast enough.

i have 3 of its songs on my mp3 player.

I'm sorry to hear that. I truly hope you shall recover from this malady.

Enjoying Uncharted. I'm really digging the crazy wall climbing, and death defying leaps that poor Nathan has to take. I've fallen to my death several times, but only due to my own bad timing. The control is really well done. I could do without the overabundance of shootouts, though. Plus they seem to throw the same group of guys at you every time.
2272  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: November 02, 2009, 04:05:39 PM
Saw Zombieland. It was a fun movie with a couple things that bothered me. It starts out better than it ends.
Code:
The cameo is dragged out out beyond being funny
The romance angle didn't work for me either. Still, Woody H. was great, and it was better than I would have expected.

.REC - Now this ended up getting to me. Starts out light and descends into craziness. The final 10-15 minutes is freaky and scary. Almost in a Silent Hill kinda way. Good stuff.

Uncharted - My first thought with this was: "How come it didn't install to the HD? I thought all PS3 games had to be. hmph."

Game is gorgeous. Drake controls well, and can do some pretty amazing things. Still having trouble with the shootouts, though. I suck at them. Without some type of Lock on, I have a hard time getting the crosshairs in the right spot. End up taking a lot of damage. Speaking of...I wish there was a health meter or something. The screen goes grey after a few hits, but I'd still like to know where I am, damage wise.
I just found the plane wreckage and am off to save(?) Elena. I like how this game just keeps going. No stopping for "stage clear" screens or statistics.

I also picked up Valkyria Chronicles. I planned on playing that next, but with Dragon Age coming out this week, we'll see.

Our neighborhood is always busy. We had tons of kids last night(probably around 200 or so). We also happen to live on a busy corner, and do the whole "Halloween house" thing. Plus, the wife and I dress up as well. A good time is had by all.

all right, it should be obvious to anyone who knows me(including you folks around here), but I'm the guy with the Grim Reaper avatar. Funny that there are at least 5 Mark Donahue's in the Chicago area. We should have a convention or something.

I just realized that there are multiple people on FB with my name. Same with dade. How do we know who is  the right one?

eh. I do the facebook thing. Good way to keep in contact with the fam. I also use it to post up (mini) reviews of games, books, movies, etc. Plus whatever random thoughts pop in my head.
I'm totally friending you dade! I just go by my fsm given name: Mark Donahue

Finished up MGS4 last night(this morning!)
Code:
What. The. Hell!? So much of act 5 was me sitting there watching things happen. Some of those scenes really should have been controllable.
I kinda liked the return of Psycho Mantis, but it wasn't as cool as it could have been.
Then we have the whole Meryl/Akiba thing. WTF? Then they get married?
Then we have the silly fight with Liquid. This might have been cooler if it wasn't just 2 old guys punching each other.
THEEEEENNN, all the boring cut scenes afterward. Big Boss. Zero. Snake NOT offing himself(which is how I think it should have ended). My head was spinning. It was almost 1:00am, and I was DONE with this crazy bullshit
the final clock said 20 hours and change. I'd swear half of that was cut scenes and such. While I still liked the game, I found it to be just OK. The ridiculous "story" keeps it from being better. I am confused by the high critical scores. I'd give it an 80 or so out of 100.

On to Uncharted...
2279  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Half finished games on: October 27, 2009, 04:05:34 PM

One game that's been totally nagging at me to finally finish is Wild Arms 4. There's many games I put down and say, "well, that was fun while it lasted, but I have no regrets about putting this down". But it's been 4 years since I played WA4, I remember having a really strong love/hate relationship with the game... but enough intrigue to want to finally finish the fucker. Plus I REALLY want to know what happens to Raquel in the end. I've reached for the disc case more times than I can remember, but always changed my mind at the last minute. But I think it may be a deep-seeded cause of stress in my life, so I really should do it!

I can relate to this. For a long time I have been a big backer of the Phantasy Star games(offline only). Love the setting, and have many fond memories. BUT....I have never actually finished Phantasy Star I. Way back on the SMS my brothers and I tag teamed it, play until the last dungeon, and then got stuck. No gamefaqs or help guides back then. To this day, it bothers me that I never finished it. I even bought the PS collection for the GBA with the purpose of playing through it, but stopped a few hours in.
I know its part of the Gen collection for the new systems, and have been tempted to buy that to try again. I know it's a waste of money, though, as I just can't get motivated to play any type of old game anymore.
I shall go to my grave with this burden!
2280  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Half finished games on: October 27, 2009, 10:04:11 AM
Before the current generation, I had all sorts of games(mostly rpgs) that I only partially played through. There just wasn't enough time.
When I got my 360 last October I decided to stick to one game at a time. It also helps that I'm playing less rpgs.
We need more rpgs that can be completed in the 20-30 hr range. Screw this 70 hrs of game play crap.
