started up DMC4. Damn this thing is over the top. I like it, though.

DLed the trial for 'Splosion Man. Had a grand fun time playing through the first few levels. I think I'll be picking this up. Feels like an old school Gen platformer, but with the obvious enhancements.

The wife and I watched The Reader. Very much an overrated movie, I'd say. We get to see a lot of naked Kate, but for some reason it wasn't working for me. Probably because she was naked along side a freakin' 15 year old boy. Lucky bastard.
Anyway, the story just seemed to drag on, without any real emotional kick. It wasn't a bad movie. Just...slow.

So I "finished" Fable 2 last night:
Code:
What the hell was that? You didn't even have to fight Lucien in the end. I know they were going for something different, but...
It all happens too fast after getting reaver. The game just rushes to the confrontation with Lucien, and then there really isn't one!
Of course, the game doesn't really end. I suppose I could keep on trekking around doing side quests and shooting gargoyles, but the motivation is gone

The game WAS fun overall. It was still missing something, though. Definitely a 8/10 type of game, strictly for the adventuring. Story and characters would get half that.
Maybe if I had turned the safety off and started shooting all those idiots asking for a ring...

Ha Ha, religion.
Is that seriously all you people have these days?
Oh come on, man. I was just goofing. I'm pretty sure Losfer was doing the same. Most of "us people" are quite indifferent to the whole thing.

That intro was awesome. The desperation is hilarious.

Ha Ha, religion.

Came back from vacation, loaded up Fable 2, and the game handed me almost 100,000. Sweet! It is WAY too easy to get rich in this game.
I continue to screw around with side quests, having just finished putting Lady Grey back together.
I think I'll do whatever Reaver asked of me next. I need to move on.
Plus, I'm ready to be playing something else.

2347  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince on: July 20, 2009, 02:18:34 PM
While I enjoyed it for the most part, I was let down too.
The omissions/changes are really bothering me.
Code:
The ending in particular. The movie completely took away the emotional punch it had in the book. I was picturing a much more "epic" scene. The battle/scuffle happening in the background while the Snape/Dumbledore scene takes place. It was just so blah.
Some of the more interesting "memories" were omitted, especially the one(2?) with snape.
Then the delivery of the "I'm the half-blood prince" line fell flat, too. The movie never even indicated that Snape was aware of Harry possessing the book.
Still...The cast was great, as always. Slughorn was perfect, and all the principals did very well.
take out the stupid quidditch and excessive Lavender scenes, and add in more of the essentials from the book, and I might have been happier.
But that ending...ugh.

alright, so I'm actually starting to get burnt out on Fable II. I'm enjoying it still, but am starting get annoyed at the more obvious flaws. I'm tired of every friggin woman asking for a wedding ring for starters. Didn't someone play test this thing? I don't like going into towns because I'm constantly harassed. Maybe if I had gone more evil?
I'm really starting to rake in the cash, too.  I don't understand why they made it add up when your not playing. Makes it too easy to get rich.
I suppose I could stop screwing around with all the side quests and actually follow the story line, huh?

There you go Grim, no more excuses not to play FO3!
I was just reading some reviews, and no one says anything about a 3rd person perspective. Its' all FPS this and FPS that. One review did mention it, saying it was clunky or something and only for Fallout 1 and 2 fans(I take it the first 2 were not first person?)
The ONLY game I was ever able to tolerate in 1st person was MP, and I still totally sucked at those.
I'll try FO3 when it drops to 20-30$.
Sorry for the thread-jack.

Mas, FO3 may be a better game, but I will never play it simply due to the perspective. I'm sure I'm not alone in my disdain.

Fallout 3 plays in both first-person and third-person, so I'm not sure what the issue is here. Unlike Oblivion third-person mode is actually playable since there's a crosshair and your character isn't placed exactly in the centre of the screen.
I was under the impression that the whole game was in 1st person. So fighting is done in 3rd person? full movement and everything? regardless, the only first person I like in a game is when you can look around with the camera to see your surroundings.

I am playing it right now. I'm finding it quite enjoyable really. I think the battle system is great. I love how you can seamlessly go from using your sword, to shooting a crossbow, to casting a spell. Very exciting stuff.
The world is beautiful to look and fun to explore. I look all over for treasure and gargoyles to shoot.
The main story is mostly blah, but most of the game seems to happen outside of it.
I suppose it could be considered easy, but I prefer easy games, so that works for me.

2352  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: JRPGs are total shit, WRPGs are THE shit on: July 10, 2009, 09:33:49 AM
Long story short, here I am almost 20 years later, and I can't stand WRPGs, most of which offer all of the D&D elements I thought FFIV was so sorely lacking back then. WoW and Elder Scroll, ugh, they seem so tired and old fashioned to me now. And all I can think about is FFXIII. Yep. Irony.

I think this may actually be the reversal of some of us here, growing up on JRPGs only to start getting tired of them and giving WRPGs a shot and getting hooked.

As for baldness: I don't think it represents being sickly so much as that it represents age... and you know what, it probably is the same here. Note that all of this bald characters aren't REALLY build, almost all of them have some fuzz there which shows they're not old enough to start balding.

Exactly this! For years, I was all about the jrpg and very anti-wrpg. trying out Kotor on the Xbox only solidified this. I played the original Fable and liked it, but not that much. Now with the 360, I am finding myself playing almost nothing but western made games, rpg or otherwise, and loving them. Now, I still have no interest in first person games, rpg or otherwise(MP excluded), so Fallout 3 and Oblivion never even get a try from me, but its still quite a reversal. I DO want to try out Tales of Vesperia, but thats about it. It just seems that every jrpg that comes out has some fatal flaws keeping it from greatness.
I AM looking forward to FFXIII, though, as I pretty much always enjoy them.

BTW, bald/shaved head = awesome! no other explanation. Not that I would have any personal experience...
2353  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long is looooooooooooooong? on: July 10, 2009, 09:12:51 AM
In the 20-30 hour range is fine by me. Shorter is fine, too, as long as its done well. I used to not mind playing through long games, but life has managed to get in the way, and these beasts can take me 3-4 months to get through. Only being able to play an hour a night will do that, even with the supposed "short" games.
Still, like DC said, I will make exceptions for great games(DQ VIII 90+, FFXII 110, DC2 85+).
ME was perfect, because even after playing through a majority of the side quests, I finished the game around 36 hours.

jrpgs + too many kids = awful

wrpgs + bald space marine = awesome!
2355  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGFan's E3 Awards on: July 08, 2009, 09:57:06 AM
Alpha Protocol must look/play better in person because the pics look incredibly generic and boring. It looks like every other next gen game to me. Definitely a wait and see on that one. ME2 looks good, as long as they remember why the first one was so good. I "wasted" so many hours in the original just wandering around and talking to everyone. The new one just needs a better menu system and a better protagonist. Sounds to me like they are getting a bit too excited about juicing up the battles when that was only a small part of what made the game great. We'll see.
