Square's being sued (finally!)

Quote
A federal class action suit is in progress against Square Enix. Allegedly deceiving 100,000 customers by not being upfront about fees and penalties, Square Enix will now enter court.

Plaintiff Esther Leong of San Francisco stated that Square Enix lied about monthly fees for Final Fantasy XI. The case claims that Square Enix concealed its montly fees, penalties for late fees, interest, and restrictions, and several other payment fees that weren’t detailed during the signing up phase.

The class action suit is seeking damages of more than $5 million, ranging from unfair business practices to false advertising.

You can read the court filing here.

Charging late fees and interest for an MMO is fucking ridiculous. I'm a victim of this and wish I could join in that class action.

Really, how many people don't own this game by now? I'm not supporting SE financially until they show that they are actually making an effort toward innovatiing.
a new localization would've been VERY welcome.
Agreed.

Oh yeah, I'd also like to see FFXIV running at 60 FPS as opposed to capped at 30 FPS, which was incredibly laggy.

Westboro has intelligent attorneys, so if they are incarcerated for violating foreign law I won't feel bad for them. The Phelps' are fucked up anyway.
41  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Is the federal income tax legal? (USA) on: February 28, 2009, 01:39:42 PM
Everyone bitches about taxes until they want their garbage taken out and their roads driveable, no sane thinking person actually wants to live in a country where nobody pays taxes, good bye fantasy land, hello first world living conditions.

Yeah... except that federal income taxes pay for neither of those things you mentioned...
42  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Is the federal income tax legal? (USA) on: February 21, 2009, 10:58:41 PM
I still haven't had any luck finding the specific statute. Two Supreme Court cases have stated that the legal definition of taxable income is corporate profit and NOT private sector workers' wages. Frighteningly enough, though there have been cases where the jury's found defendants brought to trial by the IRS not guilty for tax offenses, that there are a number of cases where the judge has declared Supreme Court evidence as invalid. And even worse--jurors either too stupid or lazy to request the law from the judge before making reaching their guilty verdicts.

Does DQV have the horrible regional dialects that were in the previous game? That's enough to keep me from purchasin the game if so.
44  The Rest / General Discussions / Is the federal income tax legal? (USA) on: February 21, 2009, 10:06:59 PM
My POLSCI professor posed this question to our class at the start of the week and today when we met for the final class of the week no one was able to give a concrete answer from researching the laws on the books. So, can anyone tell me if the IRS and/or the federal income tax is legally required and not some fraud being perpetrated by the government?
