A new theater is opening near me, so they had a couple of days where they played movies from last year for super cheap. I went and saw Passengers, thought it was pretty decent, despite some iffy physics (the specific memory that sticks out was Chris Pratt crying in the space suit). I'm not sure I am totally down with the ending, but I don't absolutely hate it or anything.

Would you like to buy five more posting gems for $1.99?

Do you get an error, or does it just not have a Reply button or anything?

He told a great story on Rob Paulsen's voice acting podcast about getting the part of the Joker and how he was sure that they wouldn't hire him because he was Luke Skywalker. He said he decided to give them the kind of audition that made them go "man, I really wish we could hire that guy, he was so awesome..." Then they did hire him, and he freaked out because he didn't remember what he did, and he didn't realize that they taped those auditions. :D

I think it was this episode. It's a great podcast, but starting from the most recent stuff and moving back, the audio quality was so often terrible that I had to give it up. I'm not an elitist for audio quality, I just listen on earbuds outside, and my phone will only allow me to turn it up so loud.

I'll definitely see John Wick 2, but for now I can just agree on Lego Batman. Awesome movie. I think it really brings extra fun for anyone who knows the old TV show, the comics, and the live action movies, without alienating anyone who only has a basic awareness that those things exist.

For example, Billy Dee Williams plays Two Face, which is a great easter egg for anyone who remembers that he played Harvey Dent in the 1989 Tim Burton Batman. But if you didn't know that, it's not like it'll cause you any trouble.

What a guy.

Like that statement, Suicide Squad could be described as hyperbolic? ;)

If you think that's the worst movie ever made, you have missed out on a lot of truly terrible movies.  I'm not going to argue that it's great, but it's head and shoulders above literally thousands of movies. As for making money, it earned almost $750 million worldwide. So it did just fine despite not being a masterpiece of modern cinema.

I'm reminded of the Louis CK bit on being a parent and questions from kids - it's the first 30 seconds of this video.

Multiplayer RPGs / Re: MMORPGs are dead

My nephew just told me this morning that he and his brother are getting into The Old Republic. I don't know how long they'll stick with it, but if teenagers are still at least playing them some, MMOs must not be completely dead.

I'm not qualified to talk about them overall, though, because they've never been my genre. I'm pretty uneducated on the subject.

If you've never seen the Street Fighter movie, there is one scene of Raul Julia that you must watch. It is brilliant. If you think you know what scene I'm talking about, I'm sure you're right. If you don't know, then watch it. It's just 90 seconds long.

As someone who's only slightly geriatric (41), but who also has two jobs that mean being online and available all day every day, cruises are the best. You get to see new places, someone else takes you there while you sleep, and best of all, you're nigh unreachable. No phone service, and the ship internet costs like $20 an hour.

But don't necessarily believe people when they say "Oh, just get a crappy, cheap room. You'll never be in there." It depends on how you plan to spend your time. Are you planning to spend your sea-going days in the bar or casino all day? Or maybe spend all of your time fighting for a chair in the sun but somehow also out of the wind on the deck, even when the weather inevitably turns bad for a day? OK, then a cheap, crappy room is for you. But we go to chill and relax and generally "get away." So we get a nice room with a balcony where we can go out and sit if the weather's nice, and we can sit inside on our couch and look out our big window if it's not.

That said, I'm liking this oldsters RPG idea. In the Discworld books, there's a group of extremely old warriors who many people laugh at, until someone points out that there's only one way you get to be an OLD warrior. By being better at being a warrior than just about everyone else.

I loved those games. I tend to love most music games. :) Didn't know about a new one, though, so I'm glad I know now.

On the "most anticipated" front, don't worry too much, folks - after we wrap up GotY, some of the team will be working on Music of the Year, and others of us will be putting together the full list of all the games we're looking forward to this year. Whenever FF7 Remake comes out, we'll definitely be looking forward to it, and Zelda. (I'm sure more of us have plans for a Switch than had for a Wii U when it was about to be released.)

The official category awards come out tomorrow!

Oh - I just went to post this and saw the question about Digimon vs. WoFF.  I reviewed the former, and I'm playing through the latter now, and I definitely preferred Digimon. Its story is great, and while they both include the "evolution" mechanic and limitations on who you can have in your party, I prefer the way Digimon does both of those things.  Here are our reviews for both games, which include the full details.
