1891  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: August 26, 2009, 07:30:38 PM
I'm now... 8 books, I think, into re-reading Wheel of Time (don't care if other people hated it - I liked it enough to read it again).

Happened to pick up and start reading what I believe is the latest book in the Wild Cards series, Inside Straight.  George R. R. Martin fans, check that series out.  He didn't write it all, but he was the editor for the whole thing, and most of it's very good stuff.  It's a shame that the earlier books are hard to find offline.

And I read some other book about time travel just last weekend, liked it, and already can't think of the name. :D

I don't get it.

Sorry - I was foreseeing another "Baroque sucks"/"Baroque rules" argument.  Since we've already beaten that dead horse into glue, I wasn't looking forward to it.  (Long story short: Gen Eric Gui likes Baroque a lot, at least one person on the forums feels very differently.)  Probably should have kept my virtual mouth shut.

Saw District 9 last night.  Thought it was really good stuff.

Gen is one unintentionally funny guy.

Here we go again...

For no real reason, I started up Diablo II again yesterday.  Never finished the game with a Paladin, so I'm going to.  Turns out I already had one at level 23, in act 3, so I'll just keep going with him.  Presumably I'm not an idiot, so whatever I did to build him up to that point will be fine. :D

That definitely sounds interesting, MGF.  Let us know when it's done, because I think I'd want to try that out.

And it has the best boss battle theme ever...

I just wish there had been more than one boss theme.  Just the reminder of it has it stuck in my head again.

Dude - I just watched The Guild for the first time today (not a MMORPG player, but it was funny anyway).  You look like Bladezz!

Picked up the Oblivion/BioShock bundle thingy ($40 for both games is a great deal if you don't have either one yet!) and started playing BioShock.  I think I'm gonna like this. :)

I stink at those games. :(

Psycho- Pretty good stuff. I didn't find it all too scary, but it was a good mystery thriller. It's contribution to the genre is huge.

It's amazing to see that now and think about the differences between horror movies then and now.  It was so genuinely scary that a LOT of people said they couldn't take showers any more after watching it.  The thing is that since it was so successful, the good parts have been copied a million times since then, so it's all old hat if you're watching it now for the first time.  Like you said, its contribution to the genre was huge.

Oddly enough, this new version makes me MORE likely to play it.  Haven't played it before, have a PSP with me pretty much all the time...  I just hope that despite the changes, it's a great game.

Well, neither of you are alone.  I'm in the "both were fun" camp.  Plenty of folks liked them both, and plenty of folks didn't.  The first had an average score of 85/100, the second an average of 89/100.

The man is the very definition of the word huckster.

Huckster?  Nah - a huckster knows good and well that he's selling the public snake oil.  Molyneux honestly believes his games will deliver what he promises and that they'll be awesome.  He's idealistic, gullible, and too open about things that he should wait to disclose, but not a huckster.

Been playing KotoR 1 and 2 (1 on PC, 2 on 360) and Dungeon Explorers on PSP, along with quite a bit of Hot Shots golf on the PSP.  Finished up Dungeon Explorers and will be posting a review soon.
