1891  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: E3 2010 SRPG news on: June 18, 2010, 12:09:35 PM
It's been long enough since I played FFT on the PSP that I'm excited to see it coming on the iPod. :)

Having been to E3 in the past, I can say that it definitely appeared to me that the companies showed off every single thing they had in a showable state.  (Of course, what "showable" means depends on the game.  They'll show off some titles in a MUCH less-prepared state than the really high-profile stuff.)

Most journalists are long-time gamers that want games that pander to them.

You don't mean your friendly neighborhood RPGFan staff, do you?  (He asked, unsure as to whether he really wanted to know the answer.)

Bravo, Mac!  Color me impressed!

Wow - that looks cool and scary at the same time.  Hopefully, they haven't added too many new elements - you know, broken the system.

That is hilariously tragic.

Oh, and that whole "gold-plated is better" stuff is crap.  Over the distance that the signal's traveling from your console to your TV, it's not possible that you could have signal degradation that would be in any way noticeably improved by getting gold-plated cables.  Those Monster Cable guys...

You have a point there. Although there are plenty of workarounds to the WiFi issue, and you are vastly underestimating the price of cables. Cheapest HDMI cable I could find was $25, and I can't imagine Component cables being much cheaper.

Dude - you're looking in the wrong places.  Here's a site I had bookmarked where you can get them for under $10.

When I bought some for my new TV a while ago, I bought them on an eBay deal where they have a ton... can't remember what they're called.  Here's one where you can get 6' cables for $2.88 with free shipping.

I've really been considering a PS3 slim to take with me on the road, but now I'll have to choose between that and the new 360 slim.  No idea which one I want...  Well hey, maybe they'll drop the price on the PS3 slim!

I'm definitely going.  Will not read this thread again until I do. :D
1900  Media / Brush and Quill / The color wheel, by gender on: June 14, 2010, 03:37:20 PM
I have to start by saying that this is totally intended just to be humorous - my wife and I often talk about the fact that she's got a great eye for color, and I... well, I can at least be said to have eyes.

I got to that chart via a color survey from XKCD, which reprints the doghouse chart, but also says that really, it doesn't work out that way, even though it's funny.

Anyway, thought you artist types would enjoy it as well. :)

Fable 3: Now without dogs.

Really?  I thought everybody got a dog, and a different kind of dog was a pre-order perk.  Now no dogs?  Or is the dog just optional?
1902  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: "Confessions of a Hypocritical MMO Player, In Three Acts" Discussion on: June 14, 2010, 01:06:10 PM
I've never really played an MMO, and I'd never heard of that figureprints site, but DANG.  It's sickly tempting to play so I could buy one of those figures!  And I even saw how much they cost!
1903  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Pokemon: The Latest Generation on: June 14, 2010, 12:38:17 AM
I'm interested in trying out either the Shiren Mystery Dungeon or one of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeons.  Does anyone know: are these really different so there's no point in comparing Shiren and Pokemon? If they are similar, which one would be better pick for someone fairly new to dungeon crawlers?  (They both count as dungeon crawlers, right?)

Here's my review of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (I gave it a 68%)

And my review of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Time (I gave it a 75%)

They might have some quick info that would help you decide.  Also, you know - it's a chance to pimp my work. ;)
1904  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: June 13, 2010, 02:45:17 AM
The other night, Radioland Murders was on.  It started when I should have been going to sleep, but I stayed up and watched it anyway, because there's something irresistible about that movie to me.  It's not the best movie ever, but there's just so much about it that I like.

Been watching the first few episodes of Doctor Who season 5 (the new ones, that is), but I'm staying away from the Doctor Who thread - don't want spoilers. :)

Today, we bought and watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.  Pretty good stuff.  Might have to buy the soundtrack... and maybe Commentary! The Musical for good measure.

We also bought and watched Shutter Island.  We like Leo. :)  Wild stuff.  My wife's a lot less sure about what's true and what isn't at the end than I am, which is totally fine.  I think:

That yeah, Leo's really had a realization that he killed his wife.  But I think it's deliberately left gray whether he's lost it again after the breakthrough or has chosen to sort of commit suicide by pretending that he's lost it.

Green Mile
I don't really get sick of this movie.  What's there to say?  Touching and interesting story - and emotional when need be.  ...one thing that ALWAYS strikes me odd, but do you find the wardens of the green mile much too soft?  IMO, especially given the southern setting, especially given the times, and especially given their title; I don't find the movie is too realistic in terms of how generous and respectful they are to the death row inmates.  Nonetheless.  Love love.

I read the book before seeing the movie, and I seem to remember that they explain that by saying that both the guards and the prisoners knew that the prisoners were there to die.  That's pretty stressful, so they didn't give the prisoners crap unless they asked for it, and the prisoners knew it.

The Prestige
Came back to this one.  I love it.  I don't think I can get sick of the lore/setting of the film.  I love the victorian(?) setting amongst two rivaling magicians.  Of course, the film becomes a bit far-fetched; but I think Nolan re-wrote history in a clever way to make an engaging story.  And..c'mon... Tesla!  Fucken Bowie! xo - hottest old man ever.  C'mon guys, you must agree. ;P

Everybody <3s Bowie. :)  He's a cool guy.
