2086  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Cake. on: April 11, 2009, 12:08:17 AM
Doesn't this thread belong in the music forum?  I mean, Cake is one of the coolest bands out there.

I saw this thread first and honestly hoped that's what it was about.

Oh, and cheesecake is the best kind of cake.  Unless you get it from Junior's in NYC, where sometimes you get both kinds in the same dessert. :D

Welcome to the fold, Cliocat. :)  I don't think you'll find any shortage of love for FF7 around here, even if it's not all the way at the top of everyone's list.  There are plenty of us grownups here at The Fan (although I don't think anyone actually calls it that), although I must in all fairness admit that I don't see retirement anywhere in my near future. :D

Edit-Random forum note, I don't know if there's anything that can be done about them, but spoiler tags are absolutely hideous in firefox.

Not to threadjack, but seconded.

Oldboy seems to be a love it or hate it kind of show, from what I've read.  People don't seem to say "eh, it was OK."

Oh, forgot to say I watched Yes Man on the plane this weekend.  It wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched, but I did think he bought into the saying yes to everything covenant junk way too easily.  Maybe I'm underestimating the power of peer pressure, but I'm thinking many folks would have said yes in the meeting in front of everyone, then not actually done anything.

Of course, that'd make a pretty crappy movie: "No Man Who Buckled for Five Seconds in Front of a Huge Crowd of Strangers." :)
2090  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / Re: So, XBox 360 or PS3? on: April 08, 2009, 01:42:21 AM
I'm also on 360 and haven't run into any bugs in Fallout 3.

Yep, tried it out and had the exact same feeling.  Not a horrible game or anything, just boring.  And for some reason, I can't get my brain to accommodate the way the pieces slide in.  I understand how it works, but can't think through to really predict what's going to happen when I slide the pieces.
2092  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: New Red Dwarf this weekend! :D on: April 07, 2009, 03:12:38 AM
Yes and no.  Yes because it'll be cool to have new stuff from the series, no because I won't get to watch it.  Maybe I'll be able to download it or stream it from someplace afterwards, though.  In which case, yes again. :D
2093  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The most hours you've logged into a game? on: April 07, 2009, 01:55:03 AM
You guys are definitely making me feel better about having maxed out the clock in Pokemon Red at 256 hours. :D  Like so many others here, I've put hundreds more hours into the series in other iterations, and I'm playing Platinum right now, so that clock's just gonna keep on ticking.

Other than that, Diablo 2 is definitely the game I've put the most time into - I played it off and on for about 5 years.  No counter in there, though.

Oh - I bet I've put a few hundred hours into Kingdom Hearts games, mostly in 1 and 2 (not CoM).  Sadly, a friend borrowed my PS2 and lost the memory card where I was playing 2, so I had to start over. :(

In the case of Fallout 3, the only DLC I plan to get is the thing that lets you continue after the ending.  The other stuff looks like it's good, but I think the game itself has enough content to keep me busy for a long, long time.  I've been playing for a few weekends now as a good guy and haven't really even scratched the surface.

Bolt - I actually kinda liked this. Disney CG has improved tremendously. Plus, none of the characters were stupidly annoying, like in most movies aimed at children. There was even a few unexpectedly "sweet" moments.

I'm glad you liked it.  I've mentioned before that the voice of the hamster was done by a very good friend of mine, so although I liked it quite a bit, I think I was kind of biased.  I wondered what people without that bias thought of it. :)
2096  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Re: Diablo 3? on: April 03, 2009, 10:54:13 AM
Nope - always saw people selling stuff, but never bought anything myself.  Of course, I was never involved in online play, and I'm pretty sure that made a difference in how I played.
2097  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Female RPG Fans....... on: April 01, 2009, 07:55:19 AM
Don't think I've bragged in this thread yet, so now I will. ;)  I married a girl who likes games.  I don't know if I'd call her a "gamer" or not, but she has bought me two consoles thus far, and she's the one who hunted down a website that still had Wiis for preorder, which got us one on release day.  She's got a PSP and is on her second (or is it third) DS... so she definitely plays games.  It's just a sort of side hobby for her, though, whereas it's my main hobby (yay for time sitting on planes!).

Dincrest - awesome songs X 2.  I thought that same blog posted the song "Marvin, I love you," but a quick search returned too many results to bother looking through.  (Marvin, of course, being the robot from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.)

And yeah, Shirley Manson. :) Then or now, awesome.
2099  Media / Miscellaneous Games / The Top 9 Video Game OCD Moments You Know You’re Guilty Of on: March 31, 2009, 01:43:58 PM
I read this list today and had to laugh.  I am totally guilty of probably 2/3 of these.

The only way I've staved off the Fallout 3 moment is by keeping up a browser window pointing to a Fallout wiki that tells me "that's only good as Rock-It Launcher ammo" or "you use that to build the such-and-such."

On the other hand, I'm totally the opposite when it comes to ammo in FPS games - I hoard it.  Don't want to pick up a clip unless I need the whole dang thing.  (This partially explains why I can't stand survival horror games.  Those + hoarding stuff = does not work.)

Saw "Much Ado About Nothing" (with Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson) and "Little Princess" on Friday night. The former was good, melodramatic Shakespeare fun. The latter was okay. Something I might've liked when I was much, much younger.

I'm a big fan of that movie of Much Ado.  Many great jobs in that show.  Branagh, Thompson, Denzel, Keaton, blah, blah, blah.  We'll just pretend Keanu wasn't in it, though, right?
