I loved MUA!  Four times so far!  (To be fair, I have played it on more than one system.)  The 360 even has cool exclusive characters. :)

Pickings are pretty slim, anyway.  A quick memory and web search brought up nothing else.

On my walk to work today, I started an audio book called The Brotherhood of the Seven Kings. It's one of those librivox.org books, so you know it's old.  I'd never heard of it before, but the blurb on its page intrigued me.  Not far enough in to say whether it's good or not, but it looks like probably a collection of short stories about the same characters, which I like, especially for "walking to work" listening.

Yeah, it was. As the biggest fan of the Colts you'll probably ever meet...

You might be surprised - my boss at work is almost literally a rabid fan.  She does the whole face-painting thing, goes to every home game, leaves work for Monday night games, etc.  Scary lady. :)

I was on a plane, and the satellite reception was lousy during the first quarter, then nonexistent for a while, so I just gave up.  Later, I decided to give it another shot, and found myself at the beginning of the fourth quarter with great reception for the rest of the game.  It was a great quarter!  That reminds me, though - I need to find that trailer for Land of the Lost that they played.  I only saw a few seconds of it.

Sorry - was referring to dalucifer0's post a few above yours regarding Expelled.  I should have used the magic "quote" button.

Don't really know anything about Religious.  I've seen enough of Bill Maher aside from that movie to know that I agree with him on some things, don't agree with him on other things.  Mostly, I think he just feels more strongly about stuff than I do, which helps in his line of work. :)

I actually really like Blue Dragon so far.  I got it really cheap so I wasn't expecting much, but I really do like it.

Haha - I just started playing that yesterday, too.  I felt the same way.  Having fun so far, got it for cheap.  If you're not a manual reader, you might have missed this, but you can go up to just about everything and hit X to examine it for items or gold.  Apparently it's even a good thing if you find nothing, because there's a guy who will give you stuff later in the game based on how many nothings you've found.

I'm so excited I've wet myself three times this week.  The people at the hotel now hate me for life.

Yeah... not really.  Anyone know what time it actually starts?  I've gotten more and more curious as the week has gone by and ESPN has talked more and more about their pre- and post-game coverage, but not said a word about when the actual game itself is.
2107  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Deus Ex creator making "epic" Mickey game on: January 30, 2009, 12:11:17 PM
Doing that to him would ruin him.

I can't totally disagree with you, but to be honest, hardly anyone knows anything about Mickey these days except that he's the mascot for the company.  Kids haven't seen him in cartoons, they aren't looking to see him in cartoons... heck, many of them are unaware he was ever IN a cartoon!  And I'm not just saying this because I think it's true - Disney's actually done research in the past couple of years that's shown these things.

Watched Office Space again, still loved it.

And I haven't seen Ben Stein's movie, but I've read enough about it to know that it's pretty much on the same level as Michael Moore's films in terms of truthfulness and accuracy.  Which is to say: "not very high."  Part of me would love to have a giant flame war on the topic of whether schools should teach intelligent design or not, but let's not and say we did (especially not in this thread).  I will stick to saying this and no more: I believe in God and creation, I believe that creationism and evolution are not mutually exclusive beliefs, I believe that creationism is a religious belief, not a scientific one, and I believe that schools should not teach religion in their science classes.

That would be pretty epic...

Welcome to the site - you'll find that a number of the folks here are pretty big fans of well-done independent RPGs.

(You'll probably also find that although we are welcoming to new members, we don't have a bunch of "welcome the new guy" threads. :D )
2111  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Are you overwhelmed by your backlog? on: January 29, 2009, 10:22:14 AM
Definitely.  I got too many games after Christmas (yay for sales on used games!), and I think I've already left one or two in the dust, never to be completed (including Burnout Paradise, which people claimed was amazing).

I'm fighting to get myself to complete Crisis Core and Hot Shots 2 on my PSP before I start on my next DS project for the site... which will probably be next week.

I never finished Kingdom Hearts 2 or Jeanne D'Arc, even though I really wanted to, because I quite enjoyed them.

My copy of Dragon Quest VIII (which I purchased just last month) is still unopened, and I didn't get more than a couple of hours into Last Remnant, which I also wanted to complete.

And on top of those games, I'm working on a review of Marvel Ultimate Alliance on the PS3 (filling in the old gaps in coverage) and trying to play enough Rock Band 2 to not lose all of the paltry drumming skills I've managed to pick up.

Wow - this is a time-consuming hobby!
2112  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Braid Creator working on 2D RPG on: January 27, 2009, 01:43:13 PM
I just think that it demeans the efforts of a lot of hard-working, creative people to say that video games can never be art, as some people do.  When they say that, they are (sometimes explicitly) saying to game makers "the thing you do is less worthy than the things other people do."  No one in their right mind would argue that Bejeweled is art, but how many hours of how many lives have been sucked away by it?  It's fun, and it doesn't need to be art.  The same is true of movies like Iron Man.  That movie's not art, but many people did find it entertaining (others didn't, but that doesn't matter for the purposes of this discussion).

On the other hand, look at games like Okami and Braid.  These were not only entertaining, but I believe contain a significant amount of artistic merit.  It is certainly possible to take things to the opposite extreme of Bejeweled, and make something with a computer that's so classically artistic that it can no longer be called a game.  Heck, I'm sure that a brief Google search would probably turn up some downloadable stuff that falls neatly into that category.
2113  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The best way to celebrate your sport team's major victory on: January 27, 2009, 01:42:15 PM
From what I heard about the story, the coach actually was cheering his team on as well as encouraging the crowd.  As has been said, it's definitely possible to slow down your game without quitting, and if you're up by a ton against an opponent who has no chance to come back, that's an appropriate time to do so.

I think good sportsmanship goes with the idea of "do unto others as you'd have them do unto you."  No one who plays sports likes to lose, and when you know you're going to lose, no one likes having their nose rubbed in it.

From what I'm reading now, the team that lost is actually not too upset about the whole thing - they know they're not very good, but they play because they love the game.  Firing the guy seems a bit harsh - I'd say a suspension of a game or two would be sufficient, and even that would just be based on his encouragement of poor sportsmanship.

If I remember right from hearing this story on the radio, Connecticut actually has a rule on the books that if a high school football team beats an opponent by more than 50 points, the coach gets an automatic one-game suspension.  That doesn't seem right, either.  There's only so much you can do in either basketball or football to limit your scoring if the opponent is horrible.

Do games really have to be art?

For the sake of the First Amendment, yes.

Beyond that though? Yes, I think they should be... but not all of them. There's plenty of room for both the artsy games and those that are simply entertainment.

Pretty much what I would say on the subject.  Not all paintings are really ART, and not all of them need to be.  Same with music, and same with video games.  However, I think that it's important that the general public understand that some games ARE art.
2115  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Braid Creator working on 2D RPG on: January 26, 2009, 10:44:50 AM
That'd be very cool.  Hope he finishes it.  He seems to be one of the developers who is working hard to convince people that a game can be art.
