2101  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is now free. on: July 15, 2009, 10:36:06 PM
In a world where most RPG towns are not so much well made, towns like that really made a very enjoyable experience in my book. One thing's for sure, Daggerfall does not seem to ring very well with the members of RPG Fan lol

This = truth.  I was really thinking I'd download this and play it, but y'all have definitely talked me out of it.

I congratulate you, Jimmy.  If you didn't get it, far be it from me to burst your bubble. :)

Just reminding a few facts that seemed overlooked.

Haha - don't mind him - he's just messing with you (I'm pretty sure).  If you don't stand up for your own work, who else is going to?

My favorite humor has always been humor that comes from making fun and screwing with other people, so I should love this.

And I'm exactly the opposite.  The only thing I've ever been interested in seeing that included Mr. Cohen was Sweeney Todd (the movie version with Johnny Depp).  I totally get that some people need to get down off of their high horse, but this kind of stuff isn't going to help.  The people who will see this show and like it already agree with his position and like making fun of people, and the people who don't agree with his position won't like it, whether they like making fun of people or not.

Besides that, what good did it do anyone for him to humiliate jerks?  The ones who have a staff are just going to fire the idiot who booked the interview and do their best to see that person's career ruined for it, and the ones who don't are just going to be pissed off.  No one's going to change because of this, not the people who got humiliated, and not the people who look up to them, either.  In fact, the most likely outcome is that they'll become more militant in their beliefs.  "Well, if the gay agenda is going to be like that, then I'm totally right to hate them."  Stupid.

Been playing Retro Game Challenge - I lost it a long time ago and just got it back - and the last challenge (or at least what they're saying is the last challenge) sucks.  Beat every game?  Blech.

Also nearing the end of inFamous for the second time, playing evil.

It's like an Everlasting Gobstopper made of spite.

Nothing worthwhile to say except that I love this line. :)

Well, I'd say the thing to keep in mind there is that the writers wouldn't get anything out of the deal aside from the occasional free games that already come with the job.  Links to sell games or no, we wouldn't see a dime, so I know my scores wouldn't be influenced by it.  If the site were to do something like this, any revenue would just go toward keeping the site afloat.

Agreed.  I can't believe both teams sent one in!

(Also, guess you can tell which series I never got into, even though I tried twice, based on my last comment and the reply to it.)

Across the Universe.  Trippy.

OK, finished good, immediately started evil.  Then I opened up my good save to hunt down the last 20 or so blast shards.  Haven't finished that yet, but I've got a map to work from, so hopefully I will be able to.

But I came here to double post because I have one specific thing to compliment Sucker Punch on something: the game starting experience.  I've played a lot of games over the years, and as far as I know, no one has ever gotten this right before inFamous.  Start up the game, see a couple of title screens, and your last save game is immediately loaded.  No "press start to continue."  No having to change from the default of "new game" to "load game."  It just loads your game.  If by some chance you want to do something else, it's easy to hit start and do it.  This is how every single game in existence should work, and yet inFamous is the only one that does.

Kudos, Sucker Punch.
2111  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on: July 03, 2009, 11:18:17 PM
I don't know how any other sites do it, but here on RPGFan, we have a thread in the staff forums where we discuss any game that we'd consider for coverage, but aren't sure if it qualifies or not.  We have discussed Monster Hunter a few times now - once for the previous PSP incarnation, once for this one, and maybe at some point before this that I don't know about.

Sort of, but I much prefer the weapon selection in Phantasy Star.

Finished inFamous as a nice guy.  Immediately started over as a bad guy. >:D
2114  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Blast podcasting. on: July 02, 2009, 08:38:41 AM
I do all of my podcast listening through iTunes (it's pretty much the only thing I use my iPod for), so no links.

Bleep Bloop: a goofy video game show from CollegeHumor.  Usually only about 10 minutes or so, but fun to watch.

Coverville: the music show that got me into podcasts.  It's all cover songs (where an artist plays a song someone else made famous), and it's pretty much always good stuff.  He's almost to episode 600, so that'll tell you how successful it is.

Flight of the Conchords: HBO doesn't send too much stuff out on this podcast, but I like it when they do.

Crosshairs: a video gaming news podcast from Gamespot's Australian corps.

The Hotspot: another from Gamespot - this one's just audio, but it's easily the longest thing I listen to.  Every episode's about 90 minutes long.  Good stuff for news, and pretty entertaining if you don't loathe Gamespot.

Start Select: might as well put this one down too.  It's a video gaming news podcast from Gamespot UK.  (Stupid iTunes making them all easy to get to from each other.)

History According to Bob: a daily 10-minute show from a history professor, covering a range of topics.  Basically, he picks a few things and then alternates shows until he's finished them - so one day is about the US Civil War, the next is about medieval Italian royalty, the next is about the Russo-Japanese war, then back to the Civil War.  I am not a huge history buff, but I like his style, and I like learning about this stuff a bit at a time.

Make Magazine: a podcast from the magazine.  Their updates are really random - one time it'll be an episode of their new PBS show, then maybe a PDF of some specs for how to make a crazy thing, then a video about just one crazy thing someone made.  The latest episode was about a potato gatling gun someone built.  (That's a gatling gun that shoots potatoes, not a gatling gun made out of a potato.  Although that'd be pretty impressive too.)

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me: a show that airs on NPR while I'm busy mowing my lawn on Saturdays.  I'm not a religious NPR listener, but this show is consistently entertaining to me.  It's sort of their version of The Daily Show.

Oracle Technology Network Techcast: if you can't guess from the name what it's about, you don't want to listen.  I just subscribed today on a colleague's recommendation, haven't listened to a single episode yet.

They Might Be Giants: they don't update very often either (looks like the last one was in March), but I like TMBG, so I keep it on my list.

Uncle Jay Explains the News: I like this one.  Another short video podcast - this one's about current events, and is made by a guy who has apparently been on the radio in Cincinnati for a long time (Jay Gilbert).  Funny stuff.

Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series: I used to watch the cartoon way too often for a guy in his 20s (at the time).  Never could figure out why it sucked me in, but this makes fun of it in a good way.  I hate that stupid Bakugan crap, though.

Hopefully, that will be far and away the craziest 3 minutes of my day. :)
