2221  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Opoona slated for March 25 in US on: July 28, 2008, 12:48:43 PM
I really had to work to remain sort of objective for my review after the labyrinth-like mess that was the first city.  Couldn't love it, but I've definitely played worse.
2222  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Comic-con Wolverine on: July 28, 2008, 12:44:19 PM

Wolverine's not my favorite character from X Men, but he's the best choice to make a movie about, I believe. The action surrounding him is a lot more visceral and intimate than most, and he's got one of the better backstories.

That trailer was fantastic. And finally: GAMBIT.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

And when you think about it, when times are tough, it's when you want some escapism.

If you hadn't already said it, this is exactly what I was going to say.
2224  The Rest / General Discussions / Don't try to reenact old commercials in Utah. on: July 24, 2008, 08:23:05 AM

Why am I not surprised? Oh, yea, all the cops in this state are pricks.

Wait... what did the cops do wrong?  As far as I can tell, some guy made a joke about mustard, some other guy pulled a gun on him, and later the gun guy got arrested for doing something he surely should have known was not OK.

The mustard joke was kinda stupid, given how old those commercials are, but pulling a gun on the joker was far more stupid.  Even if you love guns, I hope you can agree that's not what they're for.

(I am relieved to see the gun guy's name in this article, though - when I first heard about this, I went "tell me that wasn't my brother...")

Actually, that phrase has been around for a REALLY long time.  I've been hearing it my whole life, but it took a Google search today for me to discover that it's been around since at least the 3rd century BC.

Because I'm too lazy to find a good source, here's a Wikipedia page:

Edit: I wasn't going to say it, but

I assumed it was a WoW reference when I heard it in Batman.

is likely to be the most depressing thing I read all week.  I'm taking solace in the fact that you figured that couldn't be right and wondered where it really came from. (So, you know, if I misinterpreted the rest of your post, don't tell me.)
2226  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Unreal? on: July 23, 2008, 07:55:45 AM
I agree.  There were a number of times in that game where I truly got spooked so bad I jumped out of my chair.

Also, that avatar is taken, Om3ga. ;)

If that doesn't count then, well, I've shoveled shit for 20 years of my 23 year life thanks to always having dogs, cows, and horses. I'm a good shit shoveler.

Ever seen the movie Mystery Men?  (One of the main characters is The Shoveler, whose super power is that he's really good at shoveling.)

That, and Pluto Relinquish is a retarded song:

Wow.  It's difficult for me to believe that anyone can actually move their feet that fast.

The first thing that came to my mind when I read that page was that this article is as close as said article's author has gotten to breasts.

It's not great literature, I know, but I read a lot of fantasy books, and I think that pretty often as I read them.  Robert Jordan was the worst - it feels like every time his female characters are alone, they end up topless.  Then there's Piers Anthony and his obsession with panties...

Anyway, here's a classic for anyone who hasn't seen it:

Do you know my brother?  If I thought he'd seen Cheat Commandos, I'd totally call him Gunhaver from now on.
2230  Media / Brush and Quill / Book Thread Continued on: July 21, 2008, 10:28:56 AM
That Magician series is pretty good.  He's written a few followups, also.

I've been gradually working my way through the Xanth series again.  No idea if I'm reading stuff I have read before or not.

Trying desperately to finish Song Summoner before moving on to FFTA2 (I know if I don't, I'll never finish SS, and I'd like to do that).
2232  Media / Multiplayer RPGs / Bought gold? If you haven't spent 40k you are a noob! on: July 18, 2008, 08:15:02 PM
It's true what they say - no one ever went broke by underestimating the stupidity of the American public.
2233  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Watchmen trailer! on: July 18, 2008, 01:20:11 PM
Read an article from someone who has been on-set, and he said they're really putting a TON of attention to detail, and it looks great.

He talked to the director or somebody, who said that in every version of the script they've seen, the ending's been a bit different from the comic.  A bit more "traditional," if you will.  Not all sunshine and butterflies, but different.  I'm sure some people won't be happy no matter what, but hopefully it'll be something most people are OK with.

Man - watching that trailer really made me want to read the graphic novel again.

On a sort-of-but-not-really-related subject, anyone here ever read the Wild Cards series?  (They're a set of superhero-ish books written by a bunch of folks and edited by George R. R. Martin.  Good stuff, hard to find, and fairly similar in tone to Watchmen.)
2234  Media / Miscellaneous Games / New PSN Game: Fat Princess on: July 16, 2008, 05:39:55 PM
The premise sounds classic no matter HOW the game turns out.
2235  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Rock Band 2 on: July 16, 2008, 05:38:50 PM
Very, very smart move.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way.  Thanks for the info!
