1  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Gears of War 3, loved by all on: October 04, 2011, 01:56:33 AM
I never really got into the MP for Gears 1 and 2 but 3 has me hooked. I placed out of Casual matchmaking though, so now everyone is better than me :(

Still haven't played through the SP/co-op campaign yet, since I can't find a time where the three friends I'm going to play it with are free.

I bought the Kindle 3 (now called Kindle Keyboard) about a year ago right after it first came out. Unless the touch screen makes a huge difference (and for internet browsing it might) I have no intention of investing in a new one, especially since I've got the 3G. For people who don't have a kindle, though, what are you doing?! Go get one! I love my kindle so much!

For the Fire though... am I allowed to not care? The idea of an Android tablet has always seemed goofy to me, but that might just be because I have an iPhone for my touchscreen needs. Who's psyched for that iPhone event?

Hey folks, the new episode of Random Encounter is up on the RSS feed now! And it features special guest Star "Greig McCallum" Mongoose as our resident foreign accent specialist! And sheep.

On the horizon? More like just posted! Definitely stay for the interview at the end with Darren Korb, composer of the Bastion soundtrack, Audio Director at Supergiant Games because it is awesome!

I'm voting for this as the game of the year.

Game of the year, every year forever.
6  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Book Thread Continued on: May 17, 2011, 11:34:07 AM
I'm reading this book... what's it called... "A Game of... Bones...?" No, that's not quite right... "A Frame for Homes?" That doesn't seem to be it.

Oh! It's "A Game of Thrones." It's some obscure fantasy novel, you've probably never heard of it.

...what? HBO made it into a TV show? There goes all my hipster nerd cred.

(Jk, it's really good, I'm like a bajillion [read: 600] pages in.)

Oh, and Zack (I think it was him) that was Jurassic Park you loser ;-) and along with the Back to the Future movies, other required 80's viewing should include Ghostbusters and the Lethal Weapon movies.

Haha, yeah, I'm still getting crap about that. In my defense I associate Jurassic Park with this part of the theme, and I certainly haven't seen it enough times.

In other news, I've just finished editing the new podcast and it should be going up on the site now when I get back from dinner. Hopefully this will tide you guys over in the mean time.

Just saw that in my inbox. Hells to the yeah.
9  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Age 2 on: February 23, 2011, 01:47:54 AM
I'm really not liking the PC demo, but I'll reserve judgment on the console versions to see if the Mass Effect stylings of the game plays better on the big screen.

Demo downloading now on PC and later on 360 and PS3. I'm still playing through Dragon Age: Origins (in Redcliffe), so it will be interesting to see how the battle systems stack up. I'm less excited about the graphical stuff since DA:O already looked pretty nice on PC, but we shall see. Also, fingers crossed for controller support on PC so I don't have to consider the console versions even if I like their control scheme better.

Rob in all his glory:

Somebody get Blizzard to put this in D3.

Damn, you beat me to it. I actually made a sound clip of this while I was editing the show and forgot to post it with the show! Doh.

We're probably going to do another slightly shorter show once the Dragon Age 2 demo is out (Tuesday) so we can give you fine folks our impressions.
12  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 announced on: February 17, 2011, 02:41:02 AM
Taelus (Stephen) and I played on PSN. I'll take on all comers but I'm pretty bad.

Dark Phoenix is CRAZY. So is Dante (but not as much as mother f'ing Dark Phoenix).

Taelus (Stephen) and I ripped in some Marvel vs Capcom 3 last night. He came out on top with 6 wins to my 4, but there were a bunch of really good fights. If anyone wants to throw down on PSN, my ID is Breadnought.
14  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Gaming Regrets... on: February 11, 2011, 09:58:52 PM
I don't have my Pokemon Blue cartridge anymore. This makes me sad.

On a broader level, I haven't made the best purchasing decisions in the past. Somehow I managed not to buy a lot of now classic games. I never played Diablo or Starcraft; I bought Rampage: World Tour instead of GoldenEye; my SNES collection is attrocious; basically, I took a whole bunch of wrong turns on the road to video game appreciation.

The game is on sale right now at GameStop for $15, both platforms. You must buy this game if you have not already.
