16  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Nikkei: PSP2 this year, OLED Touchscreen, 3G on: January 27, 2011, 05:44:14 PM
I don't think I'm going to get a next-gen handheld any time soon. The 3DS launch line-up isn't strong enough for a Day 1 purchase, and the NGP probably isn't coming out here for a year. They both look pretty nifty, and I have a feeling I will want to buy both of them eventually, but I've got a lot of games on my DS and PSP that I haven't finished and/or want to play.

I've heard nothing but good things about the game, and apparently all first run copies of the PS3 version have a copy of Dead Space Extraction? I may just buy this one at full price.

I played the Crysis 2 MP demo and the Bulletstorm demo, both of which were fun but neither of which sold me on a Day 1 purchase. Crysis is essentially CoD on steroids and the suit powers add a lot to the game. The power jump makes a big difference when you're traversing the maps, and the button mappings for the suit powers make it easy to pick the right power when you need it.

Bulletstorm seemed pretty cool, but it was too fast paced for me to keep up with on a controller. It definitely seems like it will be better suited for the PC. The demo doesn't give you the list of skill shots, so I felt like I ran out of new things to do after one run through.

Oh, and I tried to play Europa Universalis III since I picked it up on Steam sale after hearing good things, but it left me in a confused and terrified mess. I don't think I'm smart enough to play this game. I tried starting as England after watching some YouTube tutorials and got the "Vassalize Scotland" mission so I declared war and then Burgundy started messing with my smaller territories like Calais and Marches and I didn't have a large enough army and I started losing battles and... and... I want my mommy. MeshGearFox, I know you've played some of the Paradox games - any suggestions? I want to try Crusader Kings as well, but both of these games just confuse the daylights out of me.

All the news and hype around the game makes me want to play... but I can't have another time sink in my life! Is everyone here on the PS3 servers?

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga has finally been announced for the Xbox 360... by Atlus?! Depending on how the Xbox 360 version holds up to the PC release, I may wait to pick up that version (achievement points... *drools*).
21  Media / General Games / Re: Good, Fast-Paced Action Games on PS3/360? on: January 23, 2011, 11:02:03 AM
Bayonetta is fantastic. Lot's of fast-paced, intense action with an absolutely insane plot. I've heard Vanquish is good as well, but I haven't played much more than the demo.

I wonder if the Steam connection is going to be handled like an online pass. Will you have to go through Steam to play co-op? If you don't you would be able to play co-op with one purchase of the game (PS3 and PC). But what would happen to the people who don't buy the game new? Will they be unable to play the game online? Will they be able to purchase an online pass? Will that online pass give them the PC version as well? How much will it cost?

I love that Valve is doing this more than I can express in words, but there are a lot of questions I have about the practical implementation of this system.

I started reading "Kafka on the Shore" because it was sitting on my bookshelf, but I'm only 20 pages in or so. One day I'll get around to reading all of his books. Or at least most of them. I received "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running" as a gift recently but I want to read at least one of his novels first, if not two, just so I can have a sense of how his memoir informs his writing style.

I finally (finally) started playing Dragon Age: Origins. Human Rogue, just got to Lothering. It's really good. I totally got sucked in, and then had to go away for the weekend. :(

Also I've been playing The World Ends With You, and I'm about half way through the game.

A friend of mine told me Anansi Boys is the weakest of his novels, recommending Neverwhere instead.

These days I'm reading Kindle samples of trashy fantasy novels, but nothing's really grabbed me so far. I've been meaning to read Haruki Murakami for a while though, so I may start into one of his books.

I like the books better, mostly because they don't cram the content of three books into approximately 30 minutes of screen time. The 5th is favorite, and I really didn't like the 6th the first time I read it but for some reason really enjoyed it when I re-read it after watching the movie. The movie's still a great time through.

Versus XIII looks like Kingdom Hearts on steroids. This will definitely be my favorite game of 2077. (But seriously I love me some KH and the combat in that trailer was oh so tasty.)

Its already been on sale for like $23

Yeah, I was tempted to get it during the recent Holiday sale, but Steam has turned me into a real cheap-ass when dealing with PC game purchases so I'll probably be picking it up at $10, $15 at the most.

Has anyone tried Risen? I know it falls into the same vein of Gothic-style Action RPG and I've heard good things about it.

Yes the DKS version is being finalized for US release, but no date or announcement.

It's actually available on Steam right now. I've been meaning to play this for a while but I'm waiting for a significant drop and/or a much smaller game backlog.

I read American Gods about a week ago. Apparently people like it or something? Who knew. (Just kidding, it was super awesome and got me back on a reading kick. I read the whole thing in like 4 days which is pretty fast for me.)
