1 Site Related & More / RPGFan: The Site / VA's in Crisis Core on: April 03, 2008, 02:47:40 PM
God, I feel so nit-picky when I post stuff like this. I'm sorry!

Anyways, this is regarding the recent Crisis Core review, where it's mentioned that the same team who worked on the AC dub did Crisis Core.

I would say it's more "mostly" the same team. Aerith has a different (and vastly better) VA for this game.

In the AC movie and Kingdom Hearts 2, the voice of Aerith was done by Mena Suvari (who I personally thought did a horrible job in KH2, but I haven't seen AC yet, so I don't know how she did there. )

In Crisis Core, Aerith is voice by Andrea Bowen.

Anyways, I've heard the rest of the cast is the same, so there ya go.

I don't think this really even needs to be mentioned in the review actually, I just thought you all would like to be aware ;) .
2 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Eternal Sonata (aka pretension sucks!) on: October 09, 2007, 04:57:02 PM
Well, even though I don't have a 360, and after reading the review, I'm still interested in the game.

To be honest, the impression I got from the review is that story-wise the game is similar to pretty much every other Tri-Ace game. They pretty much all fizzle out and/or get weird/stupid at the end. (Radiata Stories, I'm looking at you!)

They're still fun in their own ways though :) .
3 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Bioware to develop Sonic RPG for the DS - WHAT THE HELL on: June 29, 2007, 11:26:34 AM

Sonic's a conundrum. In his early days, there were so many good directions the series COULD have gone. The anime (the original one that was pretty dark, with Sally and the French idiot), was stellar. ...
[snip]

4. Bring back Sally. What was Sega thinking when they made the new cast? "Let's see how much we can take a good idea and ruin it?"
...The original anime had great characters that weren't completely obnoxious and stupid. In fact, Sonic was the most obnoxious character. Now, he's still obnoxious, but everyone else is worse. Seriously, lose the cast.

Aaaaactually, the series you're referring to wasn't a Japanese animated product. Commonly known as the AM series, It was US developed and made, with characters from the Archie comic series (well, maybe animated in Korea like most animated series now-a-days.)

The Sat AM series took the characters and went the darker route with them, the weekday series took some of the "bad guys" from the comic and went a more humorous (obnoxious) direction with them.

Interestingly enough, I believe the only game with the US made Sonic characters are in Sonic Spinball (just a short cameo in a bonus round really.)

Erm.... *ahem* I was a big Sonic fan back in the day ^^;.

There actually IS an older Sonic the Hedgehog anime that does indeed have some human characters, but I've never actually got around to seeing the whole thing.
4 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Tales of Legendia on: June 04, 2007, 06:22:10 AM

Okay, so here's a question: after I beat the game, I can replay it again, and it unlocks certain character scenarios that didn't occur to first time I played the game through? Is it worth replaying it for those scenes?

No, it's not a replay. The game just has two "main" endings. The character quests are the second half of the game. Though indeed, all the dungeons are places you've already visited.

Anyways, though the gameplay is indeed superior in Tales of the Abyss, in the end, I do think I enjoyed Legendia more.
Especially in regards to the characters and their development and the team interaction between the main characters.
Abyss had a great story, and I LOVED Luke, but the way some of the the characters treated each other sometimes was just uncomfortable.

And of course, the gorgeous soundtrack in Legendia was a huge plus :) .

So cool looking dude's name is....Jitterbug. ....

.....Jitterbug.....

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! That's great! I need this game just for that XD.

Erm... it's ... not a sequel....

Anyways, with each new screen that comes out, my desire for this game grows all the more! I can't wait~ Of course, having to buy a 360 is sort of a bummer. Heh.

Anyways, the silver haired girl is "Falsetto", but I can't figure out what the musical terms for the others are supposed to be. Hmmm.

Ah, I should note that I dig the naming scheme to this game by the by.
7 Media / Single-Player RPGs / suikoden V does it get better? on: April 24, 2007, 07:27:28 AM
Well, if you're getting to enjoy it now, I think you'll continue to enjoy it. You're right though, the encounter rate is indeed way too high. There's a rune you can equip that basically cuts out most of the random battles that I highly suggest you pick up. It's somewhat hidden in the last room of a dungeon Jeanne makes you go to to recruit her. (And after you recruit Jeanne, you can use her ability to put on and remove said rune at your convenience.)

Anyways, my favorite Suikoden will always be 3, simply because well... I just loved everything about it. Characters, story, the looks of the characters, heck, I'm one of the few people in the world who loved the battle system.

5 is a close second though, I had a great time with it all the way through. Even with the "slow" begining.

Wha? They did a One Piece theme? *goes to look it up, finds amusing "Sailing Day" video*

HUH. Well, whadya know. And the odd thing is that I actually like that song. Hmm... Well, I guess that just means that the mystery of my not liking the vocals in Karma will forever be a mystery ;D.

Er... the Abyss Japanese intro is pretty much exactly the same, but instead of the guitar doing the main tune. It's a singer. So I would guess all your complaints would actually still apply ^^;.

Concerning the Sui5 opening song. Eh, I wasn't a fan. It just didn't have that OOMPH that other Suikoden opening have had for me. (I loved the game itself though.)

You hate BUMP OF CHICKEN?! Blasphemy!

Heh, heh, I get told that a lot actually.
I don't really know why his voice bothers me, it just does. Though, if I was to put forth a guess, I would say it's because (to my ears) that his voice doen't seem to mix well with the music.

and I can't think of a domestic intro that has ever surpassed the original Japanese version.

I like Tales of the Abyss's intro somewhat better.

Another vote for the US Abyss opening. Something I thought I would never say for a Tales game. Basically, I just can't stand the singers voice in the Japanese opening of Abyss. It grates on my soul.
12 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Great pretentious crap sequels. on: March 27, 2007, 11:07:07 AM
I've got to be the only person in the world who prefered Star Ocean 3 over 2. I guess me prefering 3 wasn't a hard feat though, I simply hated Star Ocean 2 :) .

When it comes down to it though, Star Ocean 3 and 2 are actually rather different from each other. So I suppose it makes sense that for the folk who loved 2, they wouldn't like 3 that much.
(And in my case, a person who hated 2 would end up loving 3.)
13 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Which monsters do you enjoy to see the most in a RPG? on: January 17, 2007, 08:15:23 AM
Bunnies with axes= win . (all Suikoden games except for 4.)

I think I just like the concept of angry Bunnies with axes in general actually XD.
14 Media / Single-Player RPGs / Need a short PS2 RPG, help me!! on: December 26, 2006, 08:34:51 AM
Whoa, whoa, I love Tales of Legendia (I'm...one of the few who do ^^;,) but it's actually quite a long game.

I'm gonna put another vote for Wild Arms 4. It's a shorter rpg than most with likable characters and a REALLY fun (and quick!) battle system.
15 The Rest / General Discussions / Games 4 Girls on: November 14, 2006, 02:11:00 PM
Yeah, as a female gamer I don't really find that display insulting. And bear in mind, I was one of those girls who was offended by FFX-2. Heh.

I mean, the display is obviously geared towards young girls. And yeah, as crazy as it may seem, young girls often like the sparkly. (heck, even I had a phase.)

I mean, think of it this way, Despite what JackoT would have you believe, bloody action games aren't normally geared towards young boys are they?

Also, the display even has a pre-teen looking girl giving the little speach in the sign. Now, if it was a 20 year old woman in the sign*, yeah, that would be insulting, but as it stands. Eh.

*Ok... that would be a little funny too :) . In a sad sort of way.
