1  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Do you keep your games or trade after finishing them? on: February 01, 2012, 04:38:01 PM
I've traded in two games in my life. Resident Evil DS and Lunar Dragon Song, both because I was offended that I owned them. I do tend to get around this argument by never finishing a game though.

Got an Atari 2600 when I was four. Worst decision my mom ever made.

I haven't watched the shock rock or power metal ones yet but so far I really like the series. there were a few WTF moments and omissions such as the entirety of the German thrash bands during the Thrash episode, a few comments even just to give a bit more depth to that particular movement would have been cool. I'm more then aware of the fact I am not the targetted group for this show so I look past the stuff that I really think is dumb (or dumbed down) and enjoy it for what it is but with what was mentioned on shock rock with no GWAR, I just became a lot less excited for that episode.

PS: I would kill for some Devin Townsend love somewhere in this series at some point.
4  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: How long do you play an RPG for in one sitting on: January 14, 2012, 06:42:41 AM
Really it depends. I have a full-time job, I spend a bit more then an hour each day walking back and forth to work, a kid and a girlfriend that thinks if I don't go to bed with her when she goes to sleep at 9:30 it means I hate her so my video game times suffers greatly. Two years ago, especially for WoW, I could play more then 12 hours a day, sometimes without a break because I'm retarded like that. Typically when I get game time its in hour or two spurts, sometimes I can get four or five hours during a day off depending on a lot of factors. If I have 20-30 minutes of nothing to do I'll throw on Cave Story or something that it enjoyable for just moving forward a couple of screens.

I played FF13 to the last boss and just stopped caring. Played the demo and now I am very interested, probably way too much. I can't afford it but I'll probably end up buying it anyways as it took the few things I liked about 13 and expanded upon them greatly.

My "gaming" computer is pretty weak nowadays, it used to be pretty decent

Intel Q6600 - stock speeds
3gigs DDR3 ram (not sure of speeds or timings, new ram is needed for sure)
Radeon 4850 1gig

I've been looking at upgrading for some time but since my girfriend doesn't work and we have a kid that pretty much leaves me to never get a new system, right now though I'm looking at

Intel i5 2500k
Radeon 6970
16gigs RAM
SSD of some sort, hopefully 128gig

Someday I hope.

I don't even have a top 5 because I don't really get to play games anymore so my top 1

RPG: Skyrim (as I think it's the only RPG that came out in 2011 that I played)
Non-RPG: Arkham City

I've dug all his documentaries, the Iron Maiden once was great but I think my favourite was Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage. Rush is a band that is not regarded nearly highly enough and anything that showcases their epicness is aces in my book. I'll have to check out the Metal Evolution series, it sounds interesting.

Some of you guys are weird, 6 was a great game, it pushed the SNES in a number of ways and dealt with a lot of topics that most games wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole, even now. Also, 7 while looked back at a little too fondly I think was completely mind-blowing at the time for what it did and what it was.

My least favourite were 2, 5 and 12 although for 12 it was because due to me being slightly too anal retentive I had to consult an FAQ every time I wanted to sell items to make sure I wasn't getting rid of something that would eventually get me an item that was worth buying. I don't think the game was bad, although it was a little too Star Warsy to me, but I just could not enjoy it because of that. FF2 was just not good on a gameplay level as far as I'm concerned and FFV just didn't do anything to make me like it which it weird because it has a job system which immediately means I should like it regardless.
10  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Two RPG series I'm curious about.... on: January 06, 2012, 05:35:36 PM
Yeah, the first Shadow Hearts is really dark and serious with only a couple examples of wonky humor, but the second one, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, while relatively serious starts to go in the humorous direction, and Shadow Hearts: From the New World went full on humorous.

So Shadow Hearts is the video game equivalent of the Evil Dead series then it seems.
11  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Playstation RPG's on: January 06, 2012, 05:33:17 PM
I had a million friends with PS1s that were always willing to lend me their system so I actually never really bought any PS1 RPGs. I used to own FF7-9 but I sold them to a friend for the hell of it because I was never going to play them again. I still own three PS1 games, Colony Wars, Bushido Blade 2 and Future Cop: LAPD and there is no reason to need more then that.

Dice's incredibly negative story review is sadly accurate. Lunar 2 was one of my first RPGs and at the time when I played it, which was when it originally came out on Sega CD, it was practically a religious experience. Plus I had the entire VO from the Borgan fight memorized for years because fuck Borgan, that's why. It's been an incredible amount of time since I've played it though so I can't really run down the storyline. Turns out Ruby is a dragon and not actually a flying cat.

Bad memory from the original gravity bomb?

I think bad memory undersells it a little bit. That gravity bomb was a bitch. I was soooo pissed about how easy Borgan is in the PS1 remake, it's pathetic. Mind you, Borgan one-shotting you on the first turn was not fun in the Sega CD version but still, when I won it felt like I actually achieved something

I had a really good Christmas. It was my daughter's first one, she's seven months old so she's aware enough of things to know that stuff is going on but not what exactly and any presents that she managed to open was entirely by accident. It was still a great experience to have a Christmas with my own family and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Next year will be even better because she'll be older and able to open her presents.

My Haul:

Skyrim 360
Tubes for my Guitar Amp (I'm very thankful for these as my amp has been out of commission for awhile)
Wacom tablet
Bunch of Blu-Rays
Veronica Mars Season 3
Tons of Tshirts including a wicket Blind Guardian Tshirt and a pixelart black and white Megaman
Domo bomber hat
Ocarina. I wanted a flue style one but ended up getting a pendant style but still awesome. My girlfriend hates me for it as she has weird reactions to stuff and the ocarina seems to give her an upset stomach.
Electric Griddle
Candy!

Hope everyone else had a great Christmas

I watched Twilight Eclipse again with my girlfriend because her friends want to see the new one and she never watched the last movie. We watched it with Rifftrax though so that I could actually stomach it. Rifftrax was made for the Twilight movies and I cannot seriously recommend watching them all with Rifftrax enough.
