Well the only necessary DLC actually comes with the game so I guess that's why'd you buy it?

I think it's silly to do this when they released all the Catwoman stuff well before any type of announcement of this pass. Really if they announced the pass and then showed the trailer that would have been much better, it would have shown people a reason to buy it new instead of making people sour that they couldn't rent it because they are loosing out on something that was essentially advertised as in the game. Regardless, it might not be a Day 1 purchase for me as I live kind of far from any game store but it will be first week for sure.

I keep hearing about these books by Baker and Erikson, but have avoided them due to the time requirement. When a book can take more than a month(often longer) to get through, a 10 book series is quite daunting.

Baker shouldn't take *too* long as the series is a trilogy although he is following it up with a second trilogy. I found the third book took awhile but that's because there's some pretty heavy emotional stuff happening in it and it reflected a bit too closely with my life at the time so I had to put it down for a bit.

Erickson though...It's a 10 book series, with at least 4 novellas, 3 stand-alone  novels, an upcoming encyclopedia and two more trilogies. So ya, if you wanted to read everything it would take a damn long time.

I actually had another book series I wanted to mention but I forgot what it was while typing that response. Maybe I'll remember later.

I liked the game a lot. There's a patch coming out soon that is going to give a few new bosses, another character a bunch of new items so it's on my backburner until then but it's worth $10 at least. Well maybe at most, it's not an incredibly long game or anything. I would say it is definitely not an RPG, unless you want RPG to stand for Rouge-like PC Game.

I really did enjoy the Carcassonne XBLA game. Not as fun as the tabletop version but at least a million times better to score with.

I haven't been much for board games for a few years. Last ones I played with any regularity was the Zombies game and Vampire: Prince of the City. A board game based on the Vampire: The Requiem PnP RPG. Both are fun, Zombies more having a good time fun and Vampire more screwing over your friends to win at a board game fun.

I personally could never get into it. It's just in my pile of now unplayed 360 games. I have a rather large backlog so I honestly cannot see myself playing it again but maybe I'll be able to. I feel bad because I love RPGs but I'm pretty sure I haven't liked a single 360 RPG I've played yet. Hope you like it more :P

I always pretty much suggest the same stuff but I'll just keep doing it until more people read things I read :P

For Military I really liked Glen Cook's "Instrumentalities of the Night" series. Well the first two books at least, never got a chance to read the third one yet. His "The Black Company" series is supposed to be pretty awesome.

"The Prince of Nothing" series by R. Scott Bakker is a great read, it's pretty subdued as far as a lot of the fantasy elements go, at least through the first book and a half. The main point of the series is about Anasūrimbor Kellhus, a warrior trained in secret, he has the ability to essentially read people's thoughts through observation and can see the outcomes of any decision that can be made. No one is allowed to leave the land where he was trained but one day his father disappears, he trains and leaves to find his father and bring him back. He eventually uses his "powers" to convince people he is a messiah and takes over a holy war. Tons of other stuff happens and Kellhus isn't trying to find his father because he loves him. Kellhus can be all things to all people but he is only there for himself. The series itself is rather mature in the sense of language, violence and sexuality. There are scenes of rape, murder and incest so that can really throw people off but there are moments of genuine emotion and lots of philosophy at the heart of the story.

My favorite fantasy series is "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson, it's a 10 book series, incredibly epic high fantasy that has so many storylines and characters I couldn't even being to explain it in any detail. It's epic due to its scale, whole worlds are brought together and destroyed, past and future all exist in parallel, armies and destroyed and ascend to Godhood. It's high fantasy as everything is magic, Gods are ever present but even then that doesn't mean they can be outsmarted, used, or destroyed. One decision and you are suddenly the protector of a patron God, only you're the one person that doesn't know it yet. The first book takes some getting used to, I gave up on it halfway through and just picked it up 6 months later just to finish and then it hit its stride and I read the next 3 books in quick succession...then I caught up and was reading them as they came out.

The world is actually based on a D&D world that Erikson and his friend made in the 80s, they wrote the storyline together and each claim ownership of certain characters and events. In addition to the main series Erikson writes novellas that follow two characters that are essentially just evil as shit but they're comedies and actually quite funny. His partner, after the main series started selling very well got his own book deal and writes one off novels of the events that surround everything in the main story which makes for a really nice change of pace.

So I'm at the end of Dragon Quest V when I close my case, go back 2 hours later and my battery died along with any feeling I had with replaying the last few hours. I have a feeling this will be another Dragon Quest IX where the game just sits on my shelf beckoning me to play but due to my own stupidity I can't because I don't want to replay something that I remember so clearly.

I'm playing Dragon Quest VI now. From what I understand it is fun but way too long.

Me and Dragon Quest are weird. It's one of my favorite RPGs to play, I love the hell out of the series and now have at least touched every one of them but the only one I've ever beaten was IV and I've beaten it like 5 times.
38  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Romancing SaGa (PS2) on: October 09, 2011, 08:16:18 AM
I haven't played a SaGa game since Frontier 2 and in that one I only got to the giant battle you have with the soldiers in all Iron gear so you can't damage them with spells. Maybe. It was a long time ago but I think that was the deal. From the comments so far I'm not sure I was really missing all that much by not picking up another one.
39  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: New iPhone today, looks great on: October 05, 2011, 03:20:05 PM
Next phone, I think I'm still getting the Galaxy...

EDIT: really? no 4G?  Kinda basic addition ...

Well marketingly they have what T-Mobile and AT&T have been calling 4g (HSPA+). As for LTE, based on the Thunderbolt's 4 hour battery life, I don't think many people would ever turn it on if it was available for the iPhone.

Actually it doesn't have HSPA+, it just has HSDPA which is kind of weird. I have both a regular 3G phone and a HSPA+ device and it's night and day. I'll stick with my BlackBerry 9900. If I minded carrying my DS around with me then I'd maybe look at an iPhone but I luckily don't.
40  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: Holiday games, something about this years crop on: October 04, 2011, 08:05:03 AM
The only game I'm truly compelled to buy is Batman. I might pick up Dark Souls sometime in November but between Batman and my current backlog I just can't see me getting into any other games this year.
41  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: bad gaming memory on: September 28, 2011, 06:30:20 AM
My gaming memory is mostly related to me directly playing the game. Outside of the game itself I'll have almost no recollection but if I start it up there's a good chance I'll remember almost everything that happens. There's only a few games like Phantasy Star IV or Lunar that I remember  completely because I beat them so many times.
42  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The NEW Game Journal on: September 28, 2011, 06:25:45 AM
I'm at the last battle in FF13. I was going to beat it but it was pretty late last night and it's hard to tell how long the ending cinematic would have been so I'll wait for the next time I have a chunk of evening to myself.

In DQ5 I'm off to save Bianca. So far I love this game especially since I got the discount ticket in the Tombola game and I got a metal slime in my group. I've love to get a liquid metal slime but I don't see that happening.
43  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The NEW Game Journal on: September 24, 2011, 07:54:22 AM
I started playing Alice: Madness Returns, so far it's decently okay but the levels are just way too long. I also started DQ5 on my DS at work since it's been slow lately. I died in the first castle so I did what I do in every DQ: I grinded until I couldn't stand it anymore, so I have my guys at level 10 with all the best gear they could buy and steamrolled it.

... You died in the first castle. What.

He most likely died in the haunted manor even though there's an inn right there and you don't even really need that to get through the place.

It's the wonders of random battles...you know, being random. I got into a fight with...I don't remember what exactly but there were 3 enemies and they managed to kill me. It's a video game, it happens. I'm about 5 hours in now, in Chapter 2, just recruited a slime that is really fond of dying so that's not a lot of fun but everything else so far is.

I really, really have to get my authenticator back from my old roommate, I need to sign up for the beta. So far I like what I've seen of the beta and the skill trees
45  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Re: Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: September 23, 2011, 09:25:09 AM
I watched Paul last night. I wasn't really sure what to expect and it was a decent movie to watch. It wasn't groundbreaking or anything, the idea has been done before but it's a pretty well put together flick.
