1  Media / Brush and Quill / Sneak Peek at my next project! on: April 27, 2012, 10:40:09 PM
Hey guys,

I've began my next project as the design work for my indie RPG wraps up.

Here is a taste of what one element of the game will look like.

Interesting fact: Mike Salbato did the original card design years ago and it has been tweaked recently to match the needs of the project.
Interesting fact #2: Apparently the art for this card was done by someone on this forum. Whoever it was she's darn awesome. One of my other artists had to remind me the name hehe >.< its been years!!!

This project will be a TCG meets SRPG where the battlefield is built as the game progresses! I'm hoping to have a physical prototype done in the next couple of weeks! :D

Any feedback on what little is here is always welcome.

Didn't mean to ignore this thread >.>

Yes, the video posted there is without in-game sounds or combat animations.

A slightly more recent build can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr3L90KUVqg

A lot of placeholder stuff like writing and backgrounds. But you can a slightly better idea of what the game will be like. Combat is still placeholder values in this video and will be much quicker paced and with more epic animations. :)

I hope to have a new video out in the next two weeks.

We're in the home stretch of story crafting but would like to get 2 writers on board to create side quests to add to our core narrative.

Please have skype ready when you apply :) My skype handle is tim.kiem.

Thank you!

I spent most of my time in quests and crafting on my Jedi Knight during last weekend's beta. I got my skills near the 200 mark.

I really enjoy the ability to craft and quest at the same time. Once I got three companions, it was like I was never missing any aspect of the game. What's funny is that the crafting items tended to be more powerful than the quest rewards as I was a synthweaver, my armour tended to always be the bis for that given level. The other cool thing is being able to reverse engineer the gear I was making to level to get back some of the mats used as well as getting a chance to unlock a superior recipe of that item.

Also, if you have the corresponding crew member who excels at a certain crew skill, there is a chance they can crit and create a version with more stats or with an extra socket for mods.

All in all, I really enjoyed the crafting in the game.

I got my key for the next text from curse.com if anyone needs to be pointed in the right direction.

Hiyas again,

We're still looking for interested applicants. I know there hasn't been much information about the title, so here's a link to the game's blog.

If you don't have the internet, go read a book, pick up a pencil and draw, go talk to a real person...in real life. If you're on a plane, watch a movie, make a new friend with your neighbor, hit on a flight attendant.

The idea of "if you can't play under particular conditions set for you, don't play at all and go do something else" is extremely stupid and offensive.

I'm sorry this idea that looking for something else to do while something is unavailable offends you. But, err, yeah, what else would you do? The idea that people have the right to demand to have their pie and eat it too offends me and I find it very stupid.

The inclusion of the Auction House makes Diable 3 inherently online. In order to protect their player base and their IP, they have to put it online.

And yeah, maybe my comments came off as condescending but I'm tired of people crying about CD requirements then DRM then crying about online connection requires. As an industry, we cry way too often and way to quickly. We knee jerk more than any other entertainment industry and why? Because we think we're entitled because we drop 60$ on a game. Yeah, 60$ is a lot of money, but for the most part, its a lot of entertainment packed into that DVD and a lot of people had a hand in it. We need to take a step back, look at it from their perspective and understand why they had to make the choices they made and ask ourselves if we would have done it differently. And, honestly, Blizzard made the right call for Diablo 3. The Auction House protects their player base from getting ripped off from a 3rd party service and the Online connection protects their player base from having to suffer through hacks and cheats and a messed up economy.

People cried out and said they'd boycot Blizzard when they announced the RealID plans and now, after just a few months, most of us can't think of a Blizzard game without it. We need to put down our tinfoil hats and let the people who make some of the best PC titles of all time do their thing and just enjoy the fact that we get to experience their creations.

So, just to clear the air a bit here...

1 - The auction house. I'm not sure any of you guys are hardcore Diablo 2 gamers, but there was a market created by a player that allowed players to sell and buy items for real money. This happened and the man behind the idea made out like a bandit. He's super rich now. Ok, so they basically took an idea that Diablo 2 community obviously wanted and made it official so they can ensure that their players and their transactions occur seamlessly and within a secure channel they can enforce. So, all your crying about this being evil and blah blah...moot. It was done and a success, it will be done in Diablo 3 and will also succeed :) Move on.

2 - Online all the time. Yes, this can be a tad annoying but think of the alternative. If you played Diablo 2 at all, you know that people will make mods that make them supermen and they will PK and do stupid things to honest working players who just want to enjoy the game experience. People found ways to make unlimited gold and crashed the economy. Mods ruined the vision Blizzard had for the game. So, this allows them to ensure that everyone is on a fair playing field and that their vision is always intact. And this will only make us, honest players, enjoy the game more. And really, anyone who uses Steam is already under these same conditions, no? Are we really reopening this old scar just to be able to voice complaint again? If you don't have the internet, go read a book, pick up a pencil and draw, go talk to a real person...in real life. If you're on a plane, watch a movie, make a new friend with your neighbor, hit on a flight attendant.

So, in conclusion...Diablo 3 will be awesome :) Thank you.

Is anyone getting this? :D

I'd love to have a group of people from here to play against and maybe start tournaments with!
11  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Indie RPG Group Looking For Quest Designer/Writer on: July 07, 2011, 12:53:37 AM
Hey guys,

We could still use some submissions and writing staff on the project. I'm a firm believer that our industry needs to support great writing and I'd love to use this opportunity to bring just that to the RPG indie fanbase.

All submissions will be read and replied to :)

Thank you.

Another question is how many mediocre side quests can a game get away with? 5 kill quests for every good side quest? What's the ratio that a developer can get away with before the game is considered a side quest filler?
13  Media / Miscellaneous Games / Re: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition on: July 01, 2011, 02:33:20 AM
Do we have enough people on these forums interested in Street Fighter to start a little RPGFan tournament? :)

Please reply if you are interested! :D

15  Media / Brush and Quill / Re: Some RPG monster sculptures I made recently on: June 30, 2011, 04:55:54 PM
All the sculptures in this thread are paper mache? Seriously? Dang, that's impressive. Maybe elementary schools need to teach this kind instead of making masks lol

Would you take commissions on original IP creatures or characters?
