By the way, which Tales game are actually good? I haven't played a single one and I don't really want to ferret out which are actually good through all the titles and spin offs.

Tales of Symphonia is great (my favorite in the series), Abyss is decent, Legendia is crap, and Phantasia I didn't play enough to get a grasp of how good it is. The rest I haven't touched.

Bah, really no great J-RPGs on the 360.

But there are some stellar WRPG's like Mass Effect and Oblivion. Also, what Eusis said. Plus, while none of the current JRPG's on the 360 are great, they are at least decent (my favorite of them so far is Blue Dragon).

I will agree with the ability to empathise with this cast.  Luke, Tear, and Jade are some of the best characters in any game ever.

I'm curious to see how Vesperia measures up to Symphonia and Abyss.  As much as I want it to be awesome, I just have a feeling it won't be as good as those.  Really hope I'm wrong.

I haven't beaten it, but from what I played I thought it was decent. Nothing that will blow you away, but certainly NOT one of the worst RPG's I have ever played. Biggest criticisms are the story and it's ending, which I haven't experienced. I'm more about gameplay than story myself.

At least Sega brought Clover on board.

Means nothing until we see some results. I still think Konami is leagues ahead of Sega and many others.
1926  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Question About Future Xenosaga Projects on: August 21, 2008, 12:03:23 PM
Xenosaga Episode 3 was the last game of the series. It wrapped up the story (quite well I might add). It was originally supposed to be a six game series, but the sales weren't there and they had to end it at 3.

But, for all its worth, this is what Namco said in an interview with IGN around the release of Episode 3:

Question: Any plans on bringing new Xeno series to PS3?

Namco Bandai: The answer for this question is related to earlier questions. There are no plans at this point but we might consider bringing new Xeno series to PS3 if there are huge fan requests and sales.

Question: If Xenosaga Episode III is the last game of the Xenosaga series no matter what, would that change based on fan requests and sales? Is there a chance that Namco Bandai will make more games based on the Xenosaga universe (RPG or not)?

Namco Bandai: Yes, the Xenosaga universe is a grand concept and the number of ways we can think of to expand on this is infinite. We look forward to seeing player's reactions to Xenosaga III, and if reactions are good—who knows!

Of course, Monolith left to go work for Nintendo now so...

They said that Agito is going to build on the battle system from Crisis Core, which is awesome because I really liked that battle system.

25 hours, tops.  I took down Symphonia in 28, and I had more trouble with Symphonia, difficulty-wise.  I never got a game over screen once in TotA.

Holy crap Symphonia took me even longer (in the 60's). How the crap did you beat them so fast?

According to project director Hajime Tabata, this PSP Parasite Eve sequel is going to be a true 3D gun action game. Noting that it will differ from Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus, he described it as a "true third person shooter."

Defeated Tales of the Abyss.  Took me longer than I expected, 31 hours.  I really enjoyed the game; I took a particular liking to Jade, but was able to empathize with most of the characters, which is honestly pretty impressive at this point.

What's next?  The entire opposite of the scale, I intend to finish my Grandia III save from my review.  No characters I can empathize with whatsoever.

Holy crap you beat Abyss fast. You must have rushed through everything because it took me 54 hours if I'm not mistaken. How long did you expect it to take?

Everyone must have some filthy lasers on their PS2s.  I have no problems with loading.

I did not have any problems with loading either.  Not on the world map either.

But, I do remember world map battles to be particularly useless for gaining XP once you get a decent level.  I ran from as many enemies as i could.

There's no doubt the loading is there, it's just whether or not you care and whether it bothers you. There's no way the load times on mine were any different from yours, and I thought they were brutally long (especially on the world map, where I avoided battles like the plague because the loading took WAY too long).

... it's amazing how quickly Konami have literally hurled themselves down the shitter this gen.

What the hell's wrong with you? Only one of those games is even out and it's just following the series norm.

I was about to say the same thing. Plus I love the DS Castlevania's and Order of Ecclesia looks freaking sweet. I have nothing against Konami.

I might be starting a game of Dragon Quest 1.

Fuck yes, do it.

Actually I was playing that game on a slim PS2 (when the game came out) that I had just bought because my fat PS2 I had for 5 years crapped out on me.
1934  The Rest / General Discussions / RPGFan Gaming Journal: The Road to Infinity on: August 20, 2008, 08:30:20 PM
The loading in that game was absurdly long, some of the longest I have ever experienced on tbe system. Sad thing was, the graphics were pretty bad too and the game had major framerate issues on the world map.

Also, Mitsuda on music. <3

Alright, that kills it for me right there.

It's pathetic that you have such a hatred for one of the best composers in the industry (imo) that you won't even try a game because of it.
