Well I got Ninja Gaiden II today. And I have to say I'm enjoying it but it is easily worse than the original. Ninja Gaiden isn't supposed to have fucking QTEs in battle. It's supposed to be lightning fast action with the player in full control. Here, just adding in Obliteration Techniques (QTEs) took away most of the control. Now seeing as how Team Ninja saw they fucked up, they decided to add random projectiles to the game to make it more difficult (read:cheapen) the game. I love being hit by random projectiles from off the screen in every single fight. Most of the time in the original, when you fucked up it was almost always your fault. Cheap things such as projectiles flying your way without you knowing or enemies coming around a corner are not the fault of the player and they add cheap difficulty in place of real difficulty. Though it's still a decent game and gets the adrenaline pumping and as much as I think the QTEs are a bad thing in NG, they still look pretty sweet.

Are you sure your name isn't yahtzee?
1922  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Man, I'm bored out of my mind. on: August 19, 2008, 02:17:19 PM
I actually don't have even close to the amount of time it would require for me to play all the games I have and all of the future releases I want. Main ones for me are The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Fallout 3, Persona 4, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Dragon Quest IV, Resistance 2, Star Ocean: The First Departure, and Valkyria Chronicles. Those are the ones I know I will be buying, and there are plenty I'm waiting to see if they are worth it.
1923  The Rest / General Discussions / The naming thread on: August 17, 2008, 10:37:10 PM
If there are default names I run with them because like many have said thats what was intended. Now for MMO's or games with silent protagonists that want you to name them, I go with Blace for male (actually came up with it by this method) and if it is a girl I normally give a different name each time (or use the name generator).

Shadow of the Colossus did have slow down, but it felt more like slow-motion.

It seems like everyone in these forums is playing Tales of the Abyss lol.

Are you serious? I'm WAY too lazy to read through that. I'm sure it's good stuff though.

I am also plugging away in Lost Odyssey. I just finished the events in Numura on disc one. So far, I am really loving the game. I feel really good about sticking with this one until the end.

The game plunges about disc 2-3, can't remember exactly.

For me its not, but some people may want full 3D instead of having 2D.  I was just trying to list as many differences as I could think of.  I myself love good looking 2D stuff.

Castlevania 2D>3D
1929  Media / The Soundroom / The favorite video game music composers thread on: August 16, 2008, 10:20:57 AM
Well, I went to Video Games Live last night at Gen-con and it was freaking awesome. They played Diablo 3's music for the first time ever in the US and it was pretty good. The music selection overall was pretty good. They played lots of Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, and Halo. They also played  Kingdom Hearts, Metroid, Lair (wtf?), Warcraft, Castlevania, and a bunch of old school classics. I was a little disappointed that there was no Chrono Cross like the list on gen-con's site said, but overall it was pretty awesome. I recommended they play God of War music because it would have been awesome and people like that franchise (seriously, just replace Lair with it).

Now, favorite composers. Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Koji Kondo, Takeharu Ishimoto, Yoko Shimomura, Misao Senbonji, and probably a few more.

IGN Preview: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/899/899022p1.html

Combat -- at least from what we've seen -- doesn't seem mundane. Unfortunately, things are so hectic that the framerate suffers regularly. Throughout our demo, the framerate dipped during Capell's biggest moves. With Infinite Undiscovery just a few weeks away, the framerate is likely not getting any better. That's just something RPG fans will have to live with. At least the rest of the Undiscovery seems promising.

Consider me disappointed. I have yet to play a JRPG on the 360 that doesn't have some framerate issues (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey). And no, I won't play Enchanted Arms, and never will. I hated the first hour of the game, so I quit (meaning I have no clue if there were framerate issues). Thats what we get when Japanese developers start developing on an American made console. Come on Microsoft! Help them already! /sigh

Anyone else going to Gen Con this week? I probably won't be able to go everyday because of work, but I will go at least a day or two. It's only a 25-30 minute drive from my house. I'll be doing the SSBB tournament and possibly the Starcraft tournament. Will also be (hopefully) watching Video Games Live, which is gonna be sweet.

So are the private events like the ones in FFIX where it went to the other characters in a different scene from the one you're playing in?

...I looked forward to playing Tales of the Abyss when I finish Tales of Destiny.  You guys are making me want to change my mind.  :(

Maybe I'll play Tales of Eternia or Legendia instead.

Oh man, do not play Legendia. I would take Abyss over that garbage anyday. I haven't played Eternia, but I plan on importing the PSP version eventually since it's in English.

Makes me wondder if I should stick with it. It does have its fans, this place proves it, but I should probably just play until it gets to really boring fetch quests.

Thats what I would suggest.

TOTA will. Not. End.
71 hours now...
Ions dead. Anise is a mega bitch, and I just fought a Balrog like thing. Now there's some "key to Lorelai thing" out there somewhere and I'm supposed to go to Belkend...I think.

This just feels like the Never ending quest. My opinion of the game drops as each hour goes by. We'll see.

Thats exactly how I felt about the game. It just kept throwing crap for you to do so the game wouldn't end, and it was tedious. Of course, it only took me 54 hours to beat it. 24 of which I was bored out of my mind (quit at 30 hours and went back to it a year later, regretfully).
