1981  The Rest / General Discussions / The influence of the fanbase on things you like on: August 08, 2008, 06:34:36 PM
From what I have seen of FE fans, most say that if you think a FE game is hard, you are a tard (hey, that rhymed). They think that they're gaming gods or something because they aren't admitting they struggled with the game too. When GameSpot posted their review of Radiant Dawn and said the game was way too hard, the fanbase said the reviewer must have never played a strategy RPG before in his life. I played Radiant Dawn, and I thought it was incredibly hard. Easily the hardest FE that NA has gotten so far.

Rondo of Swords

That game is not even close to being good, and certainly is nowhere near as good as any of the dominant SRPG's on the PSP.

Rondo of Swords seems to be very much a love it or hate it game since it doesn't play very similarly to your average SRPG.

Mostly hate, but I'm not going to bash the people that like it. I'm glad they can find enjoyment in games I don't. Shows diversity.

Honestly, I wouldn't be satisfied if I could only have one. They both have some great RPG's. The PSP has Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (didn't have to pay an outrageous amount for the PSX version), FFT: War of the Lions, Disgaea, Jeanne d'Arc, Crisis Core, and if you are a huge fan of the Tales series then Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology is worth a pick-up.

In terms of DS RPG's, there are WAY too many of them to list, but the standout ones are: The World Ends With You, FFIV DS, FFIII DS, FFTA2, Etrian Odyssey I & II, and the Castlevania games. It also has a bunch more RPG's coming out for it this year.

If I HAD to pick, I'd probably go with the PSP as my favorite simply because I think the RPG's I played on it so far were of higher quality, but the DS has some quality ones as well and way more RPG's in general.

...Hmm.  I would've sworn I posted in this thread the other day about me playing PSO at the moment.

Oh well.  I'm playing PSO at the moment. :P  Level 15 FOmar, to be specific.  Man, Caves 1 took me a fucking hour and a half when I did that stupid cake quest.  I was on the verge of booting my Wii across the room when I found a Gifoie disk in Caves 2.  It's amazing how much that sped things along.  I'm digging it now, but we'll see how long that lasts. :P

That post brings back so many fond memories. One of my biggest wishes is that somehow the success of PSP on PSP allows Sega to do a PS3/360 Phantasy Star Online game.

1987  Media / Single-Player RPGs / RPGs + Achievements? on: August 07, 2008, 02:35:30 PM

That's an interesting point to raise.  But as far as Achievements and Trophies go I think Microsoft are very much against the idea of Trophies sharing the same description.

So unless Square Enix are prepared to create 2 different lists of descriptions and rewards - 1 for Achievements and 1 for Trophies then I can't see this happening.

It would be interesting to see though...

I don't think MS is going to restrict SE from doing whatever they want with that. Since it's PS3 exclusive in Japan, I'm pretty sure the trophies would be higher priority than achievements. Besides, MS is just happy they have the freaking game on their console.

I don't HATE achievement, but I'm not going to go out of my way if I don't get something in-game for accomplishing that goal. Much Like D-Rider said, Mass Effect did that right. I got alot of the achievements on Oblivion as well, without even meaning too.

Calcabrina is annoying. Casting slow helps, as always, then use your strongest attacks to kill it before they combine or before they split. I ususlly bolster my party with protect, shell, and definitely haste while they are separated and then own them when they combine.

I can beat the dolls no issue, once rydia comes back golbez spams bio and fiara and I'm toast.

I had problems with that battle too. What I did was use Rydia and Cecil to revive the others and heal until I was in good shape, then I used libra to check his weakness and used the corresponding summon with Rydia. I think it took me 3-4 summons before he died.

Why the fuck is it so impossible for people to spell ROGUE?

Man, don't ever play World of Warcraft if that bothers you. :P

AGREED.

THe NA boxart looks awesome.

I like the normal version more, to be honest. Colorful and dynamic. Very cool.

I thought so too. I think it's the best boxart of the series in NA, but I went in some forums on IGN and GS and they all hate it for some reason. Oh well, I think it looks awesome.

And I'd rather game while lazing on my sofa with a wireless controller staring at a 46" screen instead of hunching over a keyboard and mouse.

Now that is the truth.

Wait, are you saying Sweeney Todd is awful or The Wizard of Oz? I love Sweeney Todd. It is possibly my favorite movie from last year.
