2011  Media / Anime, TV, and Movies / Recently Viewed Movies Episode 2: The Vampire Bites Back on: July 13, 2008, 03:14:16 PM
Went and saw Hellboy 2 this weekend. It was pretty awesome.
2012  Media / Single-Player RPGs / PSP - Phantasy Star Portable on: July 12, 2008, 10:43:36 PM
PSU is worse compared PSO to me for many reasons.

1. The music and voice acting was awful.

2. It became a button-masher instead of the time attacks from the first game (which I liked).

3. The awful episodic story is one of the worst ideas ever.

4. Like Eusis said, finding rare items in PSO was dominant and there really wasn't any in PSU.

So is it EXACTLY like PSU, or is there changes. If it's exactly like PSU I'm not touching it because that game sucks. PSO FTW.

Started up Radiata Stories and I'm lovin' it. The controls take some getting used to though, since I'm too used to Tales.

You'll get bored with the battle system after 30 hours or so. Trust me on this.

Anyway, still plowing through SN:TA. The difficulty is finally starting to ramp up a little bit.

Also started playing Mario Tennis on GBA.

I have beat that game multiple times and played it for 45 hours on my first playthrough and NEVER got bored with the battle system. I loved that game.

Not that anyone except me cares, but RM2 will offer DLC and a 49 character roster.

I'll be a little cautious about this game, but it is on my radar. I enjoyed the first, until its repetitive mission structure got to me. More customization options and such will help, I think anyway.

We have got every FE game here ever since the GBA one we got, so I have no doubt that we will get this game. It is just going to be months after Japan gets it like Radiant Dawn.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.

I am 18 hours in.  Finished 25 quests.  I have ten members.  I need to hurry the story along a bit as I want to recruit a few more Viera cause I hate Bangaa and Seeq.  :P

I am enjoying how it plays like a cross between Tactics Advance and the original Tactics.  I enjoy the ten thousand classes.

18 hours and 25 quests?

Man, I really am a powergamer, aren't I?  11 hours, and 38 quests completed.

lol I must be a power gamer too because I've played for 13 hours and have 42 done.

I might just be retarded.  I tend to let games sit and rack up time while I dick around on the internet and whatnot.  :P

I tend to get on the internet while I'm playing games on DS/PSP also, but I always put them in sleep mode.

Something I see in many RPGs, both Japanese and non-Japanese, that is relatively realistic but is an annoyance that takes away from the fun is breakable weapons.  I'm not fond of breakable weapons in RPGs.

It doesn't bother me that much, as long as they don't break after a few attacks. Of the games I have played, I think Oblivion and WoW did it pretty well.

Seconded :P.
2022  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Matsuno and Monolithsoft Wii project. on: July 08, 2008, 01:00:38 PM
There better be some info on this sometime this year or I am going to start getting skeptical. FFXII and CC are two of my absolute favorite games ever, so I'm hyped for whatever it is they come up with.

Money probs in FFXII? Really? o_O

Anyhow...

I'm largely fine with clichés. Even stupid status effects and whatnot. Endbosses that don't make sense. What does bother me more and more however, is the lack of routines for NPCs. I'm one of those people who believes that when you make a gameworld with large cities and NPCs, you have to make me believe I am actually in a crowd, talking to people who have daily lives outside of my interactions with them.

Some games like Zelda: OOT and Shen Mue handled this quite well (though... pop up in Shen Mue was annoying), others like Lost Odyssey need a kick in the ass. I love LO, don't get me wrong, but the lack of NPC scheduling seemed weird given the high level of detail otherwise exacted.

Static NPC's are so 1998.

I think what you meant was: Lost Odyssey is so 1998. :P
