2191  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Jeanne D'Arc on: June 06, 2008, 03:00:20 PM

FFT: War of the Lions
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Jeanne d'Arc
God of War: Chains of Olympus

Ones I thought were decent:

Final Fantasy I (Anniversary Edition)
Megaman X Maverick Hunter (this is a classic, but the music was awful compared to the original and really bummed me out)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology (need to be a Tales freak to get the most out of this one)
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (finicky camera annoyed the crap out of me, but its a great game otherwise)

I hardly do any socializing at all in MMOs.  I've partied a few times,  but I spend the overwhelming majority of my time soloing and not talking to anyone. Which sometimes makes me wonder why I even bother playing these games, as I could have pretty much the same experience playing single-player RPGs.

I do occasionally get a kick out of eavesdropping on other people's conversations, though.

You took the words out of me completely. I was going to say the EXACT same thing. I have done nothing but soloing on WoW since I got it except for playing with real friends who I know outside in the "real" world, and that isn't very often. I feel like I should just be playing a single player RPG with a story that I actually WANT to pay attention to. Oh well, back to leveling :P.

How the crap can the reviewer say it is an excellent videogame in his conclusion but give it a 7/10? That doesn't make sense to me...

the reviews of brave story i saw gave it between a 6.5 and a 7.5. not a bad review but not a good one. and if a game doesnt get at least an 8 or a 9 i usually ask around to friends if its worth buying.

if its worth buying thoguh ill check it out, i really need something new for my psp.

re:crisis core i havent bought any of the ff7 sequels, i wasnt the biggest ff7 fan, i liked it a lot but it was far from my favorite. of all the sequels crisis core is the one i'm most interested in.

Brave Story- http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/psp/bravestorynewtraveller?q=brave%20story
That's pretty decent if you ask me.

And Crisis Core is awesome. I did the review for the site.

i cant stand all the "thou's" and "for sooth-s" maybe i'm just splitting hairs, but i just dont really like the story.  the graphics are pretty muddy too. i remember thinking that when i played it on the original ps1.  i decided to retry the game when they released it to psp since by that point ffta and disgaea had gotten me into tactics games.

FFT has quite possibly the best story I have ever experienced in a JRPG. The new translation did wonders for that game.

Heck, if you just plain like strategy RPGs, the PSP is a great system to get.  There are at least a few really good action RPGs on it as well, and there's a ton of other good stuff on it, some of which can be had pretty cheap these days.

(No disrespect to the DS - tons of great stuff on it, too.)

what other titles do you suggest? ive tried finding more good stuff on the psp and i crap out sometimes... ive already sold legend of heroes 1/2 (wont even go near three) and valkyrie profile

i loved disgaea, a lot of th other psp rpgs ive read about get pretty bad reviews: astonishia story, brave story, radiant mythology...

Brave story didn't get bad reviews... it's a decent game. Also, Crisis Core is a great game.
2198  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Yahtzee does Oblivion on: June 05, 2008, 12:17:14 PM
His complaints are the biggest nitpicking I have ever seen. The world was immersive in my opinion. I played that game for like 10 hours straight the first day I got it and was completely immersed in it. The voice acting was also top notch and wasn't poorly delivered even if some of the characters had the same voice actor, it just didn't bother me. As for the world map, it isn't as good as WoW's sure, but it is still good. Better than almost every other RPG. It was soooo huge that it DID seem epic in scale.

I guess I just didn't laugh at this one because Oblivion is my favorite game from this gen so far, but Brawl is probably my second favorite game this gen and I loved his review on that, it was hilarious. Oh well...

De Rais' is somewhat off...

Yeah... I'm actually kind of glad I don't know the true history better than I do.  Makes it easier to think of them as just fictional people not really based on anyone.

Same here.

this is still no where near the game FFTA was for me, im struggling to keep interested. it was too hard when i was just chuigging through without any strategy guide or advice from other players. then i heard about the black mage/arithmaticks multi-holy-flare-etc. and now its too easy. meh

i cant wait for FFTA-2 that game is gunna kick a**

As much as I loved FFTA (believe me, I LOVED that game) the original FFT is better in almost every way.

Metal Gear Solid 3 -- So very hard.  ...Even on very easy.  Hm.  I have come to the conclusion I suck at video games.  :P

Found Tales of Phantasia on the GBA for 9.99 today.  Sure it's not the best port of the game, but it was in flawless condition, so...

I thought MGS3 was the easiest of the "solid" games.

I'm also somewhat curious as to what'll happen to Dead or Alive.  As much as I despise the fanservicey shovelware games, the main installments are actually solid 3D fighters.

There you go :)
2203  The Rest / The Helper Monkey / LCD vs. Plasma on: June 03, 2008, 05:31:54 PM
Well LCD's have been known to have lag when playing rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Does anyone know anything about this. One of my friends got a new LCD tv and Rock Band was practically unplayable on it.
2204  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Jeanne D'Arc on: June 03, 2008, 11:37:07 AM
I loved this game (as seen in my review). It's definitely one of the best RPG's on the system.
2205  Media / Single-Player RPGs / i'm usually not one to complain about rpg stories but.... on: June 02, 2008, 07:12:29 PM
Yeah, don't listen to me, I only beat the game and reviewed it...
